Games are not just for little kids anymore like people used to think. Go play in public. If you want to feel normal wear a tutu, sunglasses, cowboy boots and a tiara to fit in.

I honestly question those who play handhelds in public. If you are over 18 and playing a handheld in public then.... you need to find something better to do with your time.

[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]i can't imagine taking them everywhere you go. unless you always carry a bag or have very large pockets. no way i can squeeze my phone, wallet, change, key, PSP and ocket of games in to my jeans. My wife usually puts my psp in her hand bag when i dont feel like carrying it myself.lolUm I dont feel that way I go every where with either a psp or ds.

Couldnt you just like keep it in your Beard? I mean hell man pulling a PSP out of that would impress me not alone the Girls! :P On a side note i worry more about getting Mugged because of a hand held presence. I use it for long car journeys or just for games i want to play that are available no where else like the Turn Based Genre which sucks almost everywhere apart from the PSP oh and maybe that DS thing but i dunno.Handhelds get me a date = FACT

Hey guys if you miss the legendary Pokemon dogs or couldn't get to a gamestop you can now get them on Wi-fi this month. Aw can't get Raikou again, but at least I can get Suicune now that I deleted the wonder cards I had.

I think you posted this is the wrong thread by mistake :PIs anyone else here embarrassed to be seenplaying a handheld? I feel that if I want to play games, I'd rather do geek out in my own living room rather somewhere public.
It's been a while since I've actually owned a handheld plaform and I will prolly never buy one again. Which is sad considering alot of good franchises are going that route.
thoughts?

I'l never buy a handheld because i've got no use for it.
But, i gotta say that letting yourself be embarrassed by playing a handheld in public is one of the observations trough which i could conclude that the person at hand doing that is a extremely weak person. And i'm not talking fizically.
I don't want to make you feel bad, but that's it. No going around that. Deny it all you want... Sorry.
If that what's gonna embarrass you, then picture yourself talking to a teacher and trying to persevere, in college, that's evil to the bone and doesn't want you to pass, and he's gonna rape your state of mind every single time. Or getting the guts to speak out. Or working for a horrifying boss.
*** in life is going to kill you mentally and fizically, if playing games in front of other people is something that embarrasses you...
You definitelly gotta change that mentality.. Damn, man. You'll thank me later.

No cause i am enjoying my life while those other people are zoning out like grumpy zombies.
Seiki_sands
1. "Grumpy" doesn't enter into it. Games are fun.
2. Not every moment of life is worth taking the time to reflect on it. Some are lonely moments, filled with pre-fabricated views and repetetive gestures. Games offer more to appreciate than such moments.
I think there was some misscommunication ^_^ I meant that i am not embarrassed to play my DS in public cause those people are sitting there being all grumpy and messing up their life while i'm having fun. While I don't often take my ds or psp out in public, I don't mind doing it at all. It's great for waiting room visits and airports. I've also gladly taken it to work to play on my lunchbreak if I'm really into a game.
Part of growing up is realizing that the world does not revolve around you. Therefore it is very unlikely that most of the people that would see you playing a game could not care less what you're doing. No one is going home and telling their family, "You wouldn't believe this loser I saw today playing a DS. He had to be at least 30! What a baby."
As to why you would own a handheld if you don't play it on the go, one word: games. People like to downgrade handheld games as some how not being as good or worthy of playing as their console counterparts. This isn't true though. There are a lot of really great handheld games out there. While most of the best ones are exclusive, there are some pretty good "multiplats" too. I've bought and enjoyed plenty of DS games that I would never consider getting the console version of.

Oh oops.:oops::P
I find insecure people, so lacking in self-confidence, that they let paranoia over what people might think stop them having fun, more embarrasing.
Newsflash - nobody cares about you playing games.
I was Playing Zelda Phantom Hour Glass on a Road Trip one day and in the Game one of those Statue Guys from inside that Sea Temple spotted me and I was running as Fast as I can to the Safe Zone and the Statue Guy was like RIGHT ON MY BEHIND and Before I knew it I was screaming "No, No, NO, NO!" then I made it to the Safe Zone and I said "YES!"
Everyone in the Van looked at me funny.
I didn't care.
Also Most of the Reason why I don't play Handhelds in Public is because Most of the Time I'm not allowed to play my DS in the Event I'm at or the Work I'm in.
But I guess the last time I Played my DS in Public was in a Gamestop with Pokemon.
I can't fathom NOT playing a sequel or iteration of one of my favorite franchises. Put MGS on a handheld and I must own it and pay it, period. While I don't often take my ds or psp out in public, I don't mind doing it at all. It's great for waiting room visits and airports. I've also gladly taken it to work to play on my lunchbreak if I'm really into a game.

I kinda get where you're coming from. If I was to play a handheld on break at work, people would probably consider me Childish or something. It's only because Games aren't quite accepted by a lot of people yet.
I usually don't care what people think anyways, but I don't really use handhelds anymore since I don't ride a bus to school anymore, I drive to work. Sometimes I will on vacations if I'm not the one driving though.
If people are actually going to go out of their way, call you a nerd and give you a hard time because you're playing a PSP in public, then they are the ones with the problem. Not you.
Nobody else's opinions should change your interests and hobbies. Go ahead and play. I guarantee you, most people won't even care.
I'm 15, a sophomore in high school and I still play my PSP in public from time to time.
I travel on bus everyday to work, i use a bag pack so i have plenty of space for my DS and even a book, i never feel embarrassed to play in public, also, when i go to some place when i know i'm going to have to wait (a medic visit or something) i take my DS with me, and even sometimes i play it indoors specially since i mostly play JRPGs and it's impossible to advance in the game by playing that little amount of time.
So, nop, i never feel embarrassed to play handhelds.
I have a PSP. I'm not afraid to be seen watching shows and movies on it. That's all I do with it. Why should it be embarrassing to be seen with a handheld?

So what you are saying is that you are too insecure to do something you enjoy because others might not like it? I agree...that is sad.
Also, you have to keep in mind that while you are too embarassed to be playing a PSP or DS in public, every second person with a cell phone these days is playing, say, angry birds or some other little game of their own on their phones. How is that any different? How is playing a game on a phone NOT "playing a handheld"?
Just play it at home. No big deal. Bread_or_Decide
If you're going to play it at home, why not just use your PC/Xbox360/PS3 which have superior games? The point of a handheld is that you can take it anywhere.
Maybe, although people seem perfectly comfortable with playing games on their phones. They can say they're writing an essay, texting co-workers, checking news or the stock market or something but you don't have too many excuses toying with a 3DS :P
PSP? No. Nintendo Handheld? Hell yes.People would be like, why is a grown *** dude still playing Pokemon? In fact, I don't.
Not really I know alot of people in College that still play Pokemon they hang out in the Cafeteria or in the student louge when they don't have class and trade pokemon. I do that aswell.PSP?
