They would make all their USB sticks designed for this redundant; legit ones, and subsequently the hackers would just update their copies as Sony updates theirs. Its an un-winnable battle, like with the PSP.[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="ShadowriverUB"]
But Sony have something more, firmware source code
ShadowriverUB
Or change the method, outside USB
Oh yes they are going to completely change how they deal with development kits globally; changing the pipline system of development for every studio and division of sony using the SKU that has been done since the system was in development. That would financially damage the company enough, that when hackers find another alternate it'll be another glorious waste. Removing linux was easy after Hello World came through.
This isn't.
Which is why MS and Nintendo struggle to stop hacks on their systems.
[QUOTE="ShadowriverUB"]Not exactly as this is the same as what they use, and developers use. It's a pretty grand flaw, especially considering the hacker can unbrick and downgrade their console. If this was the case then it would have been used a LOOOOOONG time ago... People WOULD risk their high prestige job to be crowned the first PS3 hacker just to steal and duplicate one of these...Sony can patch it out by removeing USB boot funtions and change servicing methods

Apparently it hasn't, I am just restating what the product is said to be - none other than the facts. These things are being sold, so obviously someone did pretty hefty work making their own copy of the thing.Sony can patch it out by removeing USB boot funtions and change servicing methods

[QUOTE="DroidPhysX"]So i guess these people are content with playing single player campaignes offline?

Yes? It's a single player campaign..what would be the point of going online?
Point is, it has still been hacked - if all of this is true.
Thats not the point, paying whatever for the hack just to play single player campaignes is a huge waste imo

exactly iyo not others. that's why people pirates gamesThere is alot more to homebrew than piracy. Just look at the dozens of apps on the 360. If we still had Linux, people would have had the ability to install way more apps than homebrew could or would bring to the PS3. And Linux would have not been removed were it not for hackers.[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"][QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]
not interested because you see, i'm not a dirty thief...
SakusEnvoy
There is simply no reason hackers should have been trying to do this from the very start; they did it solely for their own pride even though it could accomplish nothing other than to damage the system and encourage piracy.
Thats not true at all. The way sony enabled otheros blocked out usages of the gpu, making it a pretty useless.[QUOTE="ToScA-"]

You're missing the point. Homebrew is alot more than simply stealing games. There are original xbox homebrew apps that still get regular updates, pretty much turns said console into a mini PC.You're missing the point. Homebrew is alot more than simply stealing games. This is also true. Homebrew hacks of the original Xbox propelled the rise of the likes of XBMC which is an important feeature to anyone considering acquiring a HTPC.

Tell that to the PC pirates; I don't think they care. PC pirates don't have to spend anything extra. The USB is pretty expensive by itself. No it's not.... And I don't think this addon allows for playing of burnt games anyway.blue ray is hard to burn

This didn't stop the original Xbox from being pirated to hell and back. One still needed an expensive mod-chip in most cases - with limited online play (Xbox LIVE still in infant stage).PC pirates don't have to spend anything extra. The USB is pretty expensive by itself.mystervj

1. No.
2. You apparently don't need to burn a Blu-Ray disc for this to work as the games are bootable from the hard drive.
I will be REALLY peeved if they remove USB functionality, since I use my flash drive to get podcasts off my Ps3, and to put music, transfer save files to my friend's Ps3, etc.
Damn pirates. ._.

Thats not true at all. The way sony enabled otheros blocked out usages of the gpu, making it a pretty useless. It was good enough. I saw a lot of creative products being released for the PS3, like StreamMyGame, a few Linux distributions were being better optimized for PS3 usage, and some people were making headway into some very interesting media programs. No matter how I see it, the argument homebrewers use to justify illegally breaking access controls [per DMCA '98] is very weak on the PS3 because the PS3 was designed from the start to be an HTPC. Sony all but encouraged Linux development which frankly was incredibly progressive for a closed console system to do. But hackers have successfully destroyed all that goodwill as they now prepare to introduce piracy to the system. Le sigh, sad story. No it's not.... The blu ray was the easiest thing to hack on the ps3. Game rips have been on the net since 2007. And blu-ray media is dirt cheap now. About $1 each. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817130070great news. i`ll get mine done for sure most of their exclusives aint worth more then a rent anyways

Piracy is a part of software development, has been since the 70's it's not going to go away. I'm just happy unsigned code will finally be able to run on the PS3. It's not a good position with what to do, but I don't think they would do that, they know they can't keep turning off or reducing features of the console.

You guys truly belive they will remove only way to pair pads and other controllers to PS3? you can't update pads, so removal that on console side would be instiant suicide
