Has any game ever topped Halo hype machine? Bungie knows Halo is the best FPS

Holy Moly I didn't realise how much MS promoted Halo 3 before launch :shock: Then again I do live in Europe and MS promoted Halo 3 heavily in America for the most part. Although there are other franchises a lot more popular than Halo take for example GT but I highly doubt Sony would promote GT5 like MS did with Halo 3 and no doubt will continue with Halo Reach. I have to admit MS are king of marketing, too bad it has little effect on me.

Here's how I personally rank the most hyped/anticipated games in recent history: 1 ---- Halo 3. 2 ---- Modern Warfare 2 (the pre-talk about the massacre mission was alone more discussed than any other game) 3 ---- SSBB - this was just... wow. 4 ---- Killzone 2. Recent historyENEMYAC130ABOV3

Gears was pretty damn hyped, that one advertisement made me buy the game with no prior knowledge of it

Well I couldn't disagree with you more. H3 has matchmaking, Forge, Theater, Coop, a huge communityand in the end a 9.5 >> 9.0. The only thing KZ2 has over any Halo is graphics.

Hype is one of the more concrete things you can argue about in System Wars and should be devoid of fanboyism because hype is more about money put behind a game rather than anything actually about the game, and it is clear that Halo 3 was easily the most hyped game ever. If someone can find any other game that was actually able to affect other industries like Halo did, I'd like to know (talking mostly about that game fuel stuff). World of Warcraft is the only one that comes close, but it doesn't have the cultural appeal that Halo does (people who play WoW are looked down upon by normal people).
