Tons of movies actually cut content to get down to the PG-13 rating, that gets more sales. Then they release the "unrated" DVD to appeal to the adult crowd.
Ricky Bobby, Die Hard 4 and Superhero Movie are perfect examples.

Yes. You tell a kid not to do something and they will do it just because you said don't do it. Read most of the comments here on these forums and kids are obsessed with "mature" titles mainly because of the M on the box.

well then any one that can buy an M rated game would be hardcore
this would mean the vast majority of wii owners are hardcore seeing as the wii has the highest avg age for ownership out of the consoles.
so if you want to keep that logic train you need to accept that the wii is the hardest of hardcore or rethink your thesis

I said "aimed at" not "exclusively" If a developer goes into developing a game aimed at casual gamers, they are immediately cutting out a huge portion of their potential audience by making it M rated. By the sounds of the replys, popular game = casual game, is that the SW concensus?? I dont believe that is the case. GTA sells 10 millino copies because 10 million HARDCORE gamers find it appealing

Yes it does? No it makes it a game that both casuals and hardcore gamers can enjoy. Well, obviously. Games like Halo, Gears, GTA, etc, have a broader range to appear to both types.
You aren't going to achieve the numbers these games get, and not have a casual game.

lol. Halo does cater to the casual crowd. It also caters to the hardcore crowd. But don't think for a second that Halo is a true hardcore game that only hardcore players play. That is obviously not the case. A true hardcore game would be Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. Even the "easy" difficulty setting was tough.

Its not illegal for a minor to buy an M rated game anyway. Not in the US anyway.
We have to first determine what IS a casual game, and who are casual gamers, since, for example, many people say that the Wii is oriented to a casual crowd, which are people who pick up Mario Party, play it with their friends, but aren't interested in "beating" it. That's the difference between casual-hardcore gamers, someone who plays GTA IV and wants to see all the different side-missions isn't casual. It's the same difference between BioShock and Mario Tennis, the Wii and Xbox 360/PS3, the fact that two people might have RE4, but the hardcore gamer has beaten it 25 times, and the casual gamer got stuck with the Regenarators and forgot about the game.

I think that both God of War and Gear of War are extremely casual games, still they have an M rating. The same with Grand Theft Auto. kenshinhimura10

i love fable 2 but i really feel wrong calling it an RPG it's like oblivion all over again, but it's even worse this time, i really don't know what i should call fable it's a sims\WRPG game it's basically a new sub-genre if you ask me
