Think about it while MGS4 was a fantastic game, it really wasn't the best stealth game it could've been same goes for Splinter cell.

I mean think about it, at it's core Eidos produces some damn good stealth games.

Hitman Blood money and absolution

Deus Ex

Now they're returning to theif.

I have to say Hitman and deus ex were great aside from hitmans meh blending system it still had a lot to offer in the way of stealth.

What say you guys?

I agree about MGS4, that was a crap attempt at stealth. It wasn't even stealth thanks to respawning enemies.

Hitman Absolution wasn't really either, it could have been but they botched some of the mechanics. But I would agree otherwise, they seem to have the right idea about it and hopefully the new thief is as good as it's sounding and not just PR sweet talk.

Also are Eidos actually a dev or just a publisher? aren't they part of SE now?

They're a dev owned by SE. While they still fully develop the games square publishes them.

Sh!t gets confusing when they go through so many changes, I didn't they they were still a dev. But I remember booting up TR II or Soul Reaver and watching that blue logo wash across my screen. Ah good times :P

lolwut?

MGS has always had respawning enemies.... but that was a result of the player NOT employing stealth.

Even the new Tomb Raider has small and simple stealth sections, which builds a bit of tension into avoiding a full firefight

Don't all MGS games have respawning enemies?

I mean some areas where you crawl around in MGS4 you can kill 2 dudes who aren't doing anything and then 2 seconds later they respawn up ahead of you and go back to the exact same spot. It was completely counter intuitive to what stealth should be.

Been a while since I played the older ones but from memory they only respawned if in alarmed states not when you were just sneaking through the levels

They are the best. I don't think there are any other studios who have multiple active IPs which utilize stealth. At least not well.

I found stealth in Absolution to be decent, the only thing that really messed it up was the respawning enemies after checkpoint retrying. For example, there was this level where one of the challenges asked me to save a guard being interrogated by two enemies, I wanted to do it without killing anyone, and it was pretty hard. Still, after a few tries I managed to pull it off, saved the guard and silently neutralized the whole floor, then proceeded to activate the checkpoint. That felt good, but some time after I got to the checkpoint I was detected and had to retry. When I did, I came back to the upper floor, and all the enemies were respawned, the guard still being interrogated. It killed a lot of immersion for me. Even though I pulled off that challenge, I still felt all my work and planning has gone to waste.

------

As for the TC, I'm just done with Deus Ex HR replay, Pacifist unlocked, no one has been killed, and no alarms were activated. So yeah, Eidos is definitely one of the best stealth game devs this gen, looking forward to more of their work like Thief, and hopefully another Deus Ex game! :)

They were in the past too.

But I think they should stop milking ( :P ) Tomb Raider so much and give Legacy of Kain some love too.

People seem to forget that MGS doesnt focus on stealth, its just there for the pacing of the game. MGS is an action, weird, extra cinematic, deep and convoluted story type of series. Not a stealth game. Stealth is like the last thing MGS cares about.

They make the MOST stealth games, not the best.  There are several games this gen with better stealth systems oustide of Eidos.

Thats like saying McDonalds is the best hamburger joint simply because it has the most hamburgers.

You are not a gamer if you beleive this.

DX3 is my 3rd favorite game this gen, but I'm not going to white knight it and lie.

Not many other publishers even bother with stealth games
