With 2 exclusives next year and comment like this?

The Xbox 360 is doing great, and Microsoft says it hasn't forgotten who made that happen.

Kinect may be selling better than anyone - including Microsoft - expected, but anyone concerned that Microsoft will sideline hardcore games in favor of mini-game collections and shovelware may be worrying.

Is there anything but shovelware wii like games remaining for the 360?

They're definitely putting less emphasis on them. Why? Because they're not worth it.

The era of 'exclusives' being a driving factor are over. The majority of the really big games of 2011 and 2012 aren't 'exclusives'.

They will never admit it but they have definitely pushed core gamers to the side, because they know where the money is now. Casual gamers ate up Kinect and all its shovelware so MS is going to keep making more for them. I'm not saying we aren't going to get our Forzas, Gears and Halos, but new IP's geared toward the core aren't looking too promising. Maybe next gen this will change, i sure hope so.

That's very true. It's much easier to make money off of those who don't really care about fancy graphics...than trying to please an increasingly difficult fanbase.

Compare the budget for a casual game and a hardcore game...both can sell the same amount of copies, but the casual game cost 1/10th of the budget.

Also, the companies don't need to worry about piracy with casual titles.

There's no proof that they haven't abandoned them. Kinect and a lack of non-Kinect exclusives is proof that they have. So the answer is a resounding YES.

Yeah. Very likely consoles are going to get cheaper and less powerful. I will not be shocked if the Wii U is the most powerful console next gen.

No, especially given the amount of hardcore games that have released on the 360 this year... They ARE supporting their new endevour however and probably will as long as its a financial success... its actually called buisness. Quite frankly they've become arguably the biggest hardcore media device and the most casual in the same generation... a feat not easily achieved and dont kid yourself, Sony and Nintendo wish they could do as well.

Agreed and I think that scenario would be hilarious because all I hear from Sony and Microsoft fanboys are things like "next gen will be the same situation as this gen when PS4 and 720 blow away the world with their uber-powerful tech and make the Wii U look like weak little kitten!" just off of baseless assumptions, like those companies care about hardcore gamers or some other silly notion and not care about making money.

Microsoft is focussing mostly on MP titles. They are getting cushy with activision etc. So although they are not focussing on exclusives, they are still trying to develop for the core in a lot of ways. It's not very visible on the surface, and they certainly have no interest in new IPs for the core gamers.

The only hardcore ones on that list are Halo 4, Alan Wake, ****4 mmo, Steel Batallion, and that Obsidian game. The rest are all going to be dumbed down Kinect games for casuals (See Fable the Jourey gameplay e3) or aren't exclusive (Trials Evolution, Skyrim DLC) or I've never even heard of like some (Battleblock theater? Hybrid? Fusion Genesis?) You are clearly grasping at straws with some of these. While I agree Halo 4, Alan Wake and that new ****4 mmo look promising, the rest look rather mediocre and not geared towards core for the most part.

The era of 'exclusives' being a driving factor are over. The majority of the really big games of 2011 and 2012 aren't 'exclusives'. KC_Hokie

I agree. Even last gen I didn't consider exclusives to really be the driving factor to buy one console over another because the multiplats were so good. I always chose them for my Xbox simply because they were better there which in turn made the Xbox my favorite console of last gen.

That said with this gen, despite the power between both consoles being near even, the 360 still has the upperhand when it comes to it's online network, and as well tends to receive more games that the US demographic craves given that it gets more PC multiplats than the PS3 does. There's a reason it still sells as well as it does.

I wonder how next gen will turn out? I wonder how Japanese development will shift when Vita/PS3 multiplats can be made. Perhaps the 360 won't even get Japanese games at that point.

But at least as it stands now multiplats remain the biggest, and best part of the console industry, and until that stops happening the 360 will continue selling as well as it does.

And to those who aren't interested in what Sony is offering would think the same about Sony. Halo, Gears and Forza is enough for some people (not me), but exclusives really aren't all that important at the end of a generation, since everyone who buys a console is going to get a massive library no matter what they choose.

Last Guardian is pretty much a lock for me. Maybe Starhawk. Maybe Papa and Yo. Maybe Dragons Curse. I know Sly Cooper and Tekken have fans here. There's more exclusives, but I just put down the ones that I know aren't just exclusive filler. That 360 list though...has anyone even heard of the vast majority of them? I don't know what PC exclusives are upcoming other than the ones I can run on my laptop.

No, especially given the amount of hardcore games that have released on the 360 this year... TheEroica

They released two, so far, as far as I'm aware. They'll be publishing a third in Halo CE Anniversary.

[QUOTE="gensigns"][QUOTE="ActionRemix"]Here's a list of 2012 PS3 exclusives someone on this site might actually buy: The Last Guardian Starhawk Sly Cooper Papa and Yo Tekken Dragon's Crown (spiritual successor to Muramasa)ActionRemix
That's actually a pretty poor list.

Did you see the 360 list? XD

Yes, it has

A new Fable(Fable Journey)

A new Alan Wake (Alan Wake Night Falls)

A new Witcher (Witcher 2)

A new Halo (Halo 4)

A new Panzer Dragoon (Project Draco)

A new Crytek game (Ryse)

A stunning 2D action game (Dust)

A new From Software game (Steel batallion)

A new ghost/asventure from Sega (Haunt)

A new RPG from Obsidian

A new game from Climax, Sudeki developers (Bloogforge)

.

Probably the best lineup since its launch, i will buy them all day one of course

Dragon's CrownActionRemix

I don't believe Dragon's Crown is a PS3 exclusive. It was announced along with the PS Vita, and is supposed to be supported between the PS3/Vita. I'm also pretty certain it's not a 'spiritual successor' to Murumasa. It's just a game by the same devs with a funky artstyle. Nonetheless it looks cool.

That said Dragon's Crown is the only one that interests me of the bunch.

Sony would abandon core gamers if they could have any success with casual games.

MS probably figures that their install base is large enough that they don't have to have any exclusives. At this point most core gamers that considered buying a 360, have already bought one. Multiplats are enough to keep their current userbase occupied and pushing Kinect garbage will gain more of the casual marketshare

I hope so, Kinect is the future, why would i want a game without Kinect ?

I love the fresh things Kinect brings, i have been playing the standard stuff for 20 years now and before Kinect games seemed all the same

Well, not anymore, gameplay has gone next gen and will be in all 2012 360 games

Sad that is not in Witcher 2 though

Hopefully after Steel Batllion, From SOftware will make Dark Souls 2 a Kinect exclusive, imagine actually fighting the monsters than just pressing buttons

Of course, as long as these games can be played sitting down, i definatly want the extra immersion and interaction Kinect will bring

In fact if i could play all games with Kinect, would be the best

It was high time something more interactive and immersive than the joke of pressing buttons on a silly pad appeared

I cant wait to play Zelda SS too with the new controls and fighting system, no matter how much i have to wave
