Has PS3 become mandatory to own?

yeah no matter what console u have or are planning to get u cant go wrong as long as u know what types of games and exclusives u like because they are all great

i admit i like the wii the least but mario galaxy is still one of the best games ever made

Im just gonna answer the tile with a no, and Ill add just because of a price drop and console remodel doesnt make the PS3 anymore appealing asd far as its library goes, which I personally think is pretty week.

With that said, Im purchasing one Sept 1st.

Again I must remind you that the Nintendo DS is still a console even if it does have two of it's own screens and, doesn't have to be connected to a power cord at all, times and can easily be carried around.

If you were only to own one console, then it should be the 360. It has the biggest, best and most diverse library out of the consoles. The PS3 is lacking in several areas, including RPGs. But it's still a very good console, and I'm now considering buying one due to the upcoming price cut.comeonthehoops

actually in a way the wii is the manditary console -not meaning you need only wii but if you dont youll miss more then what youll miss by not own a ps3 , if you own a ps3 i suggest a wii if you have a 360 i suggest a wii as well and if you want you could get all 3 , but i dont recommend ps3 360 combos because youll end up just deciding upon buying exclusives for one and third party for the other instead a mix of b oth for 2 consoles,

I wouldn't say its "mandatory" to own, especially if you have a 360, but imo at least, I think its in every gamers best intrest to at least give it some considertation. Its exclusives are top notch and the system itself is very relieable.

Nah not really the PS3 and the 360 are too similer and the 360 has better games according to most people. To be a mandatory console you really need to set yourself apart and the PS3 has yet to do so imo.

Really on the 1080P? Because the LACK of 360 games in 1080P is more astounding:

I count 26 PS3 games to 6 Xbox 360 games, and that's not even counting games like Fat Princess, Burn Zombie Burn, and WipeOut HD, so make that 29.

...Or the fact that the 360's biggest selling title is ALSO sub HD. OR the fact that the 360 merely UPSCALES 720P games to be 1080P. OR the fact that arguably the best looking console game currently out is on the PS3. The list truly goes on and on...

Um... there has never been a generation of consoles with a must-own console... PS3 is no exception. but im still picking one up :)

Every generation there is a console(sometimes two) that are must owns to experience the best there is to offer. Last gen it was easily the ps2, and before that it was very close between n64 and ps1.

I agree with everything you said,except this.The PS1 obliterated the N64 in every way possible.It was nowhere near close.

The reason for the lack of original 360 games is simple,MS has focused too much on Live,DLC and multiplatform games.They have not invested in their own exclusive franchises and lost ket titles such as: Ninja Gaiden,Dead Space,Lost Planet,Tales of Vesperia and Bioshock.MS was so adamant about taking Sony's fanbase that they tried their very hardest to make the 360 the PS2.Only thing they seem to not realize is that the PS2 is last generation.They also forgot thatthe PS2 was innovative,original and had exclusive games which pushed the console past it's competiton,unlike the Xbox360 which is generic.

I agree wit this poster. I just own a PSP, I stopped liking Nintendo during Generation 4. I really hated how they handled the Mortal Kombat situation back in 92-93. But I honestly have to say that Nintendo owns this generations race. I think I am a Sony fan boy lol, not sure. I never owned any of the Generation 5 systems, I had a PS2 giving to me, but I barely played. I was barely home. The PSP is perfect for my lifestyle and is easy on the electric/light bill. My opinion on this Generation of systems is the winner/must have system of the world is the Wii, even though if I had the extra cash I would go with the PS3. Just my honesty and 2 cents. This generation it is the Wii...Even though I am not a Nintendo fan, lets stop lying to ourselves. The Nintendo Wii is the number 1 system in the world.

please, wii sales wont decline at all... even if ps3 sales increase they'll have to lower the price to 200 euros if they want to make any money and catch up to nintendo. sony have left it way too late it is too far behind. no console is mandatory to own yet but the wii is the closest.
