That's what they all say.
Hey, I managed to escape the chance of turning into a brony (seriously, one full episode of that show with my little sister who loves it and I was not hooked unlike other adult males), I think I might escape Steam crazies.

Nope, great games still deserve a lot of my money.
It's just that in the current state of this industry, where cutting your game into pieces and selling it as DLC, they devaluated their own games.
Also, both Rayman Origins and Legends flopped hard because most gamers were like: 'Eh, a 2D platformer, that doesn't deserve full price' so it has nothing to do with Steam.
@R4gn4r0k:
2d platformers are one of my favorite genres. I'd rather pay $60 for legends than for gta5. I have gotten tons of hours and multiple playthroughs with dk returns and tropical freeze. But that's just my personal preference in games.
The feeling of knowing that i could get it a lot cheaper in the back of my head drives me crazy though.

Yeah, same here. Love 2D platformers. Love Rayman and DKC
But really, there is not a single reason anymore to purchase a game day one:
- You get a less feature complete game, as you can just wait for an inevitable complete edition
- You get a more broken game, as there are bound to be multiple patches before the game runs perfectly
- You end up paying more, as you can just wait for a price drop.
The market pushes people towards delaying their purchase, not just steam :)

Really good points to think about. Especially with recent releases. I feel like they're unintentionally making their customers smarter and more cautious. At this rate, maybe the majority will one day favor quality over quantity.
yes, i like there prices, when i look at PSN or like XBL store prices and sales i /facepalm and walk away
When i want buy a new PC game i look at steam prices and sales then facepalm and walk away. Why pay 59.99euro for a new PC game, really? then i buy physical copy elsewhere for like 39.99-44.99euro. Digital download stores sucks
Yes. I implemented a 5% rule. 5% of my income goes into a Entertainment budget that can be used for movies, games, music, etc.
If I want to buy something from above mentioned, it has to come from that budget and no where else.
That is how I control my expenses since 2 - 5 years ago I would buy every game I had a slight interest in if it was on sale.

Still plenty of people willing to buy a game day one. Look at AC: Unity. 'No reviews ?' 'Oh, well don't need them anyway'
Some gamers, if not all gamers, love some series so much they NEED to have it day one. I know I do for some series, but feeling like that less and less.
But I'm pretty sure day one/preorders are declining. Which is a good thing; But it also makes the pre order bonuses more and more aggressive.
So It's really a double edged sword.
I don't know how they've done it, but I can't help it, I'm addicted to Steam sales. I seem to have zero self-control when it comes to Steam sales.
Everytime I say "pfff, not falling for this again, not gonna buy games that I won't ever play just because they're cheaper", only to find myself buying at least 20 games on one sale.
I have 750+ games on my steam library collected over the years. It's an addiction.
yep. i am a lot more stingy now than i used to be. usually i only buy games with good multiplayer on launch, others i just wait for steam sale.
Very much so, yes. I will still plump down the big bucks for certain games day one, though (MGS, Zelda, Mario, Fallout etc etc etc)
Hmmmm, nop...i want a game, i buy it, there is nothing different, don't care if it is online, steam, retail, etc.

I'll never buy a PC game on launch unless its physical copy. I built a PC primarily to play PC games when they go to $10 price.
Not really, I'll just buy what I want when I want it. If it's not cheap on Steam I'll look for a boxed retail copy as it's often much cheaper than the standard Steam price.
Age has changed my way of spending though. I'm less likely to buy games day 1 now. Probably a mixture of being more aware of my spending and having less time to play games.
