has the PS3 had a game release that actually sold systems?

look cows. this is what i am talking about. not an extra 10,00 or 30,00 units in a month. I am talking about a game where half the folks who buy a game buys a system with it like halo reach. uncharted 2 and god of war sold an extra 20 or 30 thousand thanks to bundles. metal gear helped sales when it had nowhere to go but up.

Who needs "System sellers"? Didn't Sony say people would get second jobs to buy the system even without games? :lol: Ahh, good times.

Back on topic, MGS4, of course. And traditionally, the biggest console mover Sony has has been Gran Turismo... so ask again in a few weeks. :P

Most of those series predate the last GT. :| NFS predates the entire GT series alone!

You're talking about a series where the Prologue sold over 5 million copies. I think you can stop worrying about the health of the GT series. It's gonna sell systems.

in all honesty? i mean did god of war 3 or infamous come out and all of a sudden the PS3 was hard to find? i remember uncharted 2 came out and not only did it not sale systems but it didnt exactly sale like crazy itself.

i mean.the wii has had several games that sold the system. wii sports, wii fit, new mario wii. these games released then all of a sudden wii's were hard to find.

when the 360 came out, it sold out everywhere because of perfect dark zero of all things before people realized that call of duty 2 and PGR3 was the reason to actually have it. then gears sold systems, then halo 3, now halo reach has again emptied gamestop.

so what exactly is the PS3 killer app again?

this is why i wasnt gonna bother asking. the only game that came out that helped the PS3 in an actual sales boost is metal gear but none of you even have the numbers right. no other PS3 game has boosted system sales. instead, cows are just naming off exclusives.

when someone actually comes into the thread with actual evidence that the PS3 jumped in sales because a game released on it, then i guess the answer is no.

IMO: God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, LBP2, Killzone2/3, Team ICO Collection(of course some of these are not out yet)

I love LBP so much. As much as I want LBP to be out there and stuff, it wasn't a system seller. The Wii still dominated. There wasn't a huge sale thing, we didn't even see LBP on the top 10, that's because it released so late in the month (It only had 4 days). And November was all inflated because of the Holiday sales and the new game.

When I worked at Best Buy, GTAIV and Metal Gear Solid 4 certainly moved units for Sony.

MGS 4 did.

MGS4 was probably the PS3's first big system pusher

Uncharted 2 helped move quite a few units especially after the slim redesign

God of War 3 helped push units

After that a wide variety of exclusive games helped push the PS3 liekly in lesser numbers. Heck, I know people who bought a Ps3 just to play Demons Souls or that first party Baseball game. One of my freinds bought it after seeing the first Uncharted (okay so he planne don buying a PS3 anyway but Uncharted is what made him decide it was time to get a PS3)

Um yes it did , MGS4 was bundled with the system and for the first time ever it outsold the competition in worldwide sales due to the MGS4 bundle. As for a game being hard to find when is it ever? I saw Halo Reach at Best buy and Wal-Mart today. Its not hard to make copies of games.

First week sales worldwide was approximately 1,700,000

I bought mine a year later release because thats when the big hitters like MGS4,Little Big Planet and Killzone 2 came out.

The only real system seller for consoles are PRICE CUTS :)

On topic, MGS4 surely help sell some extra units... GT5 might also push sales for PS3..

Why is this thread still going if someone already mention MGS4? that game sold systems even if TC don't want to recognize it.

If the TC is talking about a universal system seller then there is none, and this goes for all systems, but there are big system sellers in all categories

MGS4 for stealth/story junkies

GOW for violent/hack and slash fans

GT for racing fans

KZ/R for shooeters

I think it's more the collection of its great line-up of exclusives that sells the system instead of relying on one IP.

Does anybody buy a console for one game any more? I mean besides the Wii sports fans... To be honest I wish I had the self control to not early adopt consoles because they aren't really worth it until they have a year or so behind them.

MGS4 really pushed systesms. Also whent he slim came out GOW3 helped push alot. Yakuza mainly helped in japan to give a big push.

MGS4 was huge, and Gran Turismo 5 will turn heads as well. Many heads. I'd also say LBP helped sell some Christmas PS3s, though not in a particularly huge manner.
