They delayed Zelda and pushed Starfox to 2016. Their biggest exclusives so far have been Splatoon and Mario Maker. The there's Xenoblade Chronicles X which I'm personally looking forward to, but won't sell very much. Yoshi's Wooly World and Kirby also came out. Martio Party too. Meanwhile, the rest of the gaming world gets Witcher 3, MGS 5, Fallout 4, Black Ops 3, Guitar Hero, Asssasins Creed, Mortal Kombat X, and all of the respective exclusives for the other consoles. But if Zelda had actually came out this year, it probably would have made up for it. Agreed?

I made the mistake of buying one about 3 weeks ago. The thing has been powered on for about a total of 8 hours, maybe. It was a dumb move, especially seeing I just got Metal Gear 5 on my PS4.

I got Hyrule Warriors, I see it as running around tapping the B button. Mario Maker is a cool idea, but I get bored in about 20 minutes every time (I'm not very creative). I want Bayoentta 2, hopefully I will like that. I don't think it will be better than DMC though

There's Splatoon... Super Mario Maker, and Xenoblade Chronicles X at the end of the year. Yeah that's about it. :(

It's par for the course- 3-4 worthwhile games this year too. It got Splatoon and Mario Maker, and the end of the year feels nice, with Fatal Frame, Xenoblade, and Yoshi, but yes, it's nothing particularly great.

Mario Maker is probably my Game of the Year (it's either this or Witcher 3), so that made up for the sucky rest of the year.

I've had no issue with this year. Splatoon takes more of my time than I care to admit. Whatever the system lacks in terms of games is countered by the addictive nature of the games they do release.

I've been having fun with Splatoon, Mario Maker, and the Plague Knight DLC for Shovel Knight so far

Interested in getting Woolly World and Xenoblade, and still have affordable Space Adventures and Pikmin 3 in my backlog.

Can't say I'm terribly disappointed.

It's pathetic. But as a PC gamer, I only really got Bloodborne and Hell Divers for PS4.

X1? Nothing actually until Halo 5 in a few weeks. The 3DS? Monster Hunter 4? So it's actually got some running mates, but I guess that's PC gamer problems with these other platforms.

That said
Splatoon - Pretty cool and refreshing game. It's got too low of a skill ceiling for my liking, and the sp is a bit half baked. Not to mention how it handles a lot of other things, but I'll take something new from Nintendo

Mario Maker - an endless supply of 2d mario levels? I'll take it.

and I'm looking forward to playing Fatal Frame 5, and I'm not all that hyped for Xenoblade. What little I've played of that first game, it's pretty fucking boring.

Lets see.... Splatoon.

ONE game for the whole year. Maybe i will get Fatal Frame and Mario Maker but that is it for my WiiU for 2015. 2016 its only POKKEN.

Basically it's Splatoon and Mario Maker for me. But in saying that, I've spent *a lot* of time with both of these games. Both are GOTY contenders. So while it's not much, what's there are very high quality. Obviously if you don't like these 2 games, then you're out of luck. Other games to consider are Yoshi's Woolly World and Xenoblade X.

I can't complain as I still have to play Super Mario Maker.

But don't forget about Mario Kart DLC, which came out at the end of last year and early this year.

Some of the most fun I had this year was playing Mario Kart on Wii U.

So even if all it had was Mario Kart ... it still had a great year.

Worst year I can remember a console having, abandoned consoles aside.

I do look forward to xenoblade though. Gameplay videos of exploration and combat looked super fun and hell, I need to buy SOMETHING for the dang system in 2015. I agree if Zelda had come out this year it would have papered over a lot of cracks. I picked up the system late last year for Zelda, essentially.

@R4gn4r0k: oh come the **** on, dlc for one of last year's games is meant to be enough for a "great year"?

@locopatho: Well, no. Of course that is not enough.

But no matter if I had a PS4, Xbone or PC with hundreds of games, Mario Kart 8 was STILL some of the most fun I had this year.

Are you serious now ? Do you get you are minority saying that ( if not the only guy in the world ), big time , you playing only splatoon and whatever the system lacks , when it lacks every single AAA/AA 3rd party along any big time AAA 1st party this year , countered by addictive nature ?

Really ? So how many hours you have with Bayonetta 2 ? How many hours youll play Xenoblade ? How many hours youll play Zelda ? How many with Mario ? over 9000 ? I dont think so ... Youll finish those games once and thats it. If you are die hard fan , maybe twice. How many people playing daily games like Smash/Kart or Splatoon out of the people that own those games ...Few thousands ? Come on now ...

You cant be serious saying that lack of games , which are hunderds of hundreds per year countered with addiction ...when most people own a Wii U dont even gaming on Wii U anymore

Zelda games always get delayed, no one should be surprised by this. And Starfox I have zero interest in. I don't find the other Starfox games fun, except SF Adventures. The new one looks pretty crappy so far.

Yeah it's a dry year for Wii U. I've been playing Pikmin 3 mostly right now. I've logged in over 100 hours in that godlike game so far and there's many hours more of enjoyment to be had.

Yes, the only notable releases so far were Splatoon and Mario Maker.

All that's left is Fatal Frame and Xenoblade.

on the downside its only xenoblade for me this year (may pick up mario maker also soon enough...but the backlog is soo big!! :( ). im not interested in MP shooters so have little interes in splatoon.

on the upside its frickin xenoblade!!! basically my PC, PS3, 3ds, and vita will be collecting dust for a while. the main reason i bought a wiiu is coming soon \o/.

Yes. It has been an exceptionally bad year. Probably the worst year I have ever seen from a big 3 console. I haven't bought a single Wii U retail game so far. I have been using the system to play Wii games for the most part. Xenoblade will likely be the first retail game I buy. I am planning on getting Mario Maker, but I'm saving that as a Christmas present for my stepson.

2014 was a stronger year with Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros, Captain Toad.

This year is a lot of hot air about Splatoon and Mario Maker, which no doubt look fun, but not for $60 each they don't. The only game I bothered to get was Affordable Space Adventures and that's it. I'd get Fatal Frame for the Wii U except Nintendo of America is fucking it up there and only releasing it digitally, so I'm just not bothering. No Legend of Zelda or Star Fox this year, so shitty year, very shitty year.

I think we all agree that the Wii U is shit console on its own.

It works as a secondary system, you could never last the generation with just a Wii U.

Splatoon is pretty much causing me to neglect my PC and XB1... A LOT.

Wii U still has Fatal Frame this month and Xenoblade in December, but man, Splatoon is awfully addictive.

@lamprey263: Hyrule Warriors is the WiiU Zelda. The next true Zelda game will be a launch title for the NX. Of course it's not official, but that's what I'm thinking. I can see them doing what they did with Twilight Princess maybe

Oh right, didn't know or must have forgotten.

I actually really want the Wii U to do well. I have no problem with the hardware itself. I don't think Nintendo need an new console, they need to support the Wii U correctly.

Supported properly, the console has many years left. It's a shame Nintendo are giving up on it and blaming the console for their own problems. While having gimmicks is fine, they need to stop relying on them. The Wii was no better than the Wii U, but it was an anomaly and sold off the back of the gimmick.

The release of Yoshi here in the states is yet another culmination of the lack of trust on behalf of Nintendo. E3 of 2015 was where I first learned Nintendo will not show footage of games releasing until the next year or so because it will "disappoint" fans. Such a train of thought must be new at this company because they've done it so many times in the recent past with Yoshi, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and many others. Hell, I remember back to the infancy days of the 3DS when a few game trailers were put on the eShop and made available for download (which I still have) yet didn't come out for what seemed like ages.

Nintendo is supporting the WiiU the BEST they can.

They got MASSIVE Indie support and They're pumping out games from their Internal Studios like no tomorrow. NOA can go up a tree though, with games like Yoshi's Whooly World being done for MONTHS ALREADY TRANSLATED, but not released till this month.

Still I think Nintendo has been supporting WiiU the best they possibly could. You can't force 3rd Party to make a game for you without the funds or the motivation. It was clear within the first year of the WiiU's life most 3rd Party developers wanted nothing to do with WiiU and more to do with the PS4.

@Solaryellow: yea, I don't understand Nintendo's reasoning either. You need to show things that are to be released far into the future to assure the userbase that there WILL be a future. Nintendo's done themselves no favors in growing trust in their customers, they are only breeding doubt.

God, what I'd give to be able to sit down with the decision makers at Nintendo to hear their "logic".

All of that was just PR Talk about how they literally had nothing to show.

There is some truth to what they say right now though like Fire Emblem if/fates and That Chibi Robo game. But It's also hypocritical since they showed off Xenoblade and announced PersonaEmblem (that's Shin Megami X Fire Emblem) YEARS before their actual releases so yeah, just sprinkled words that Nintendo said to back off investors.
