For some reason the 360 is slowly losing its appeal. With each new mega hyped IP title getting bad reviews, multiplates looking the same (if not better) on their rival competitor, and handing over most of their titles to PC and PS3 owners, its no wonder M$ has lowered the cost of their console to get gamers back on board due to poor sales figures since late '07 and most of '08. PS3 is catching up at a fast rate and with just Gears2 to show off on the box for the duration of this year, it wont save the 360 from being #3.

You say this a short time before Gears 2, Fable 2 and Banjo 3 launch...

Poor timing...

I don't think the 360 has really lost much appeal. It's just not "THE" console to have like this time last year. when Halo 3 came out. And which mega hyped IP title has been getting bad reviews? Apart from Too Human, I can't think of any.

its a known FACT that X360 is destined for failure. the only reason it got some decent games its because it was released first.

had it been it launched side by side with PS3. X360 wont exist today.

I don't think the 360 is losing its appeal. Typically there is a gaming lull during the late summer/early fall. You will see the sales and demand for the 360 increase in October/November/December with a majority of the "mega" titles being released during those months.

That, and along with the price drops and speculation from analysts who say the 360 is going to be selling out the rest of the year. I guess he's trying to bash the 360 while he can..

Xbox 360 is doing fine.It has a great library to look forward to !

The only reason it lost its appeal was because of the Red ring of death.

Ah, you are mistaken about the PS3 part. If anything the PS3 has been the one losing exclusives. Devil May Cry 4, GTA 4 and Final Fantasy XIII.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? I don't agree anyway, the only thing that stopped Sony from dominating again was their foolish business decisions.

If someone doesn't like video games, then I'm guessing the 360 wouldn't appeal to them.

How about a logical argument?

PS3: Despite coming out later than the 360 and having a worse start, the original Xbox went through the same thing. The PS3 has been proven to be more powerful with better specs than 360. Each console has wifi and psn is completely free of charge. Despite losing certain exclusives, as well as a lack of quality games in 06-07, 2008 has featured a spate of new games that are almost double the high profile 360 games for 2008. The reintroduction of rumble, sixaxis motion, playstation home, trophies, Blu-Ray, and 360's best game of 2007 (Bioshock) coming to the PS3 with everything released after the initial release, the PS3 seems to be putting up a better fight to the 360 than the original Xbox did to the PS2. The PS2's long life span and the PSOne's continuing influence appear to foretell the PS3's lasting appeal as opposed to the shortened lifespan of the original Xbox. Unforunately the PS3 also has a higher cost than 360. A lot of the PS3's current games are also available on 360, and most of it's exclusives are coming out later this year. It also features less users.

Xbox 360: Featuring more users and a more robust online, the 360 is the choice for online gaming- if your willing to pay. Achievements have many users playing games more deeply than ever before farming for points. The Xbox 360 also currently feature the best '07 lineup and are the only ones with the popular Halo 3 on their system. Many of Sony's previous exclusives have also come over to the 360, including DMC4, Final Fantasy, and GTA IV (a game that has exclusive content for the 360 says rockstar). The 360 is currently the main system for most gamers (except for maybe the increasingly popular Wii). Unfortunately the 360 has been proven to be less powerful than the PS3. Some have stated that it is slowly losing popularity because most of it's high profile exclusives have already been released. The 08 line up also pales in comparison to the PS3 featuring only GoW2 and Fable 2 (a game that could be promising more than it can deliver) as oppopsed to Killzone 2, MGS4, Haze, PS Home, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and Gran Turismo 5.

Well, thats my logical argument.

The 360 has been the most consistent in terms of releasing decent games from month to month. Its library embarrasses the PS3's and has a far bigger variety than what the Wii offers. Outside of a PC, its easily the best choice so far this gen in terms of picking 1 system to go with. The PS3 keeps promising things but its been nothing but delays.

This.

Anyway, I recently bought Viva Pinata TIP and pre-ordered Fable 2 and got those Pub games. I know those will keep me busy until Saints Row 2, LBP, Fable 2, Banjo, Fallout 3 with exclusive content, Left 4 Dead, Wii Music, and Gears of War 2. So much appeal.

Actually most game reviewers when reviewing games will state the PS3's slightly sharper quality. Plus the Blu-Ray discs the games run on allow for much more content. The 360 has a much larger library right now because it's been out since 2005. Although the Wii has the most games coming out consistently, most of them are terrible and feel last gen, only the fact that its 1st party games such as Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda are practically unmatched in popularity (except for GTA IV, Halo 3 and maybe MGS4) as well as its more casual friendly marketing keep it selling so many systems. You shouldn't really compare the two, despite PS3's Blu-Ray usage, most games that are available on both consoles will not utilize the space, and if HD DVD didn't lose out to Blu-Ray I'm sure the 360 may have put the HD add on to more use.

When the next few monthly sales figures come in, I think it'll be the PS3 that looks like it has lost it's appeal, but that'll be mostly due to the much higher sticker price.

The only appeal it has lost for me is that new appeal.

I still love the thing to death. =)

Heres to more great gaming years with all the systems.

Embarrasses you say? Actually, this could not be further from the truth. IGN just posted the best 32 360 games to get that are currently out. The funny thing with the list was that over half were also on the PS3. Another 10 were small downloadable games that don't carry any weight in my opinion. So in the end the 360 was left with Gears, Halo, and Mass Effect.

All the while PS3 has MGS4, Uncharted, and Ractchet. The reality is that 85% of games are on both systems, and that their quality exclusive lineups are very comparable.

So embarrassing the PS3, I think not. More like on even ground. And by the end of this year going into the next I think the PS3 will have a much greater favor in quality exclusives like R2, Motorstorm 2, LBP, GOW3, KZ2, Heavy Rain, GT5, etc.

What about Lost Odyssey? Dead Rising? The original Condemned? And lets not forget how much earlier the 360 got games like Bioshock and Lost Planet?

And your argument only holds water if you look at review scores. Too bad people don't simply ignore games because they score poorly at gamespot. So while you may write off games like Too Human or Crackdown as crap, hundreds of thousands of other gamers enjoy games that don't score 8s and 9s everywhere. Hell, the PS3 has barely covered each genre of games. With the 360 you've got choices.

So now you are going to bring up the past to show the "strength" of the 360s lineup? Why not throw oblivion in there and raibow six and I am sure there are a few others. Don't you view this as a sad argument? I am not arguing about the library of games back in 2006-2007. Those arguments were put to pasture last year. I am talking about now, and as of now and moving forward into the holiday season--the "ps3 has no games" or "360 embarrasses PS3 with much better games" arguments are dead.

Then you want to argue with review scores? Sure why not throw in a Harry Potter game and Pirates of the Carribean game... they sell millions of copies too--BUT THEY SUCK! Just because most of the masses are not very bright and will play any crappy game does not make the 360 gaming library so superior.

The facts are still the facts. Both consoles have a huge amount of quality multiplats as of now and moving into the next few months and both have about an equal amount of quality exclusives, so please for the love of the world, stop pretending that the PS3 has no games. When people do that, it just makes them look foolish and very biased.

When people do that, it just makes them look foolish and very biased.

lol, thats not even remotely close to being accurate.

Well if you go by Gamespot's scores then you sir are correct, but if you go by the World's scores, sadly you are mistaken. I don't hide behind one gamesites scores, I go by the entire community. But that is just me, you do what you like.

if the PS3's library is so great, then how come their game cases are always full and the 360 game cases pretty much empty? Most PS3 exclusives are totally forgotten 2 months after release, while the 360 games have longer playability...

While I'll admit, GeoW2 is the biggest title they have this year, and likely going to be the most popular, they (MS) also have slightly more niche games like Fable 2 and Banjo scheduled for this year, as well as having the cheapest (in more ways than one) current-gen console on the market, and having a slew of great older titles, I don't think they are losing anything this year, especially if Sony fails to (HEAVILY) impress at TGS next month. Thats not to say Sony won't catch up, but between the to big consoles, I have a slight feeling MS is going to come out ahead this year. Maybe not by much, maybe by a landslide, I'm no fortune teller.

I hope Sony can get the lead out and surprise drop the price before 'Black Friday' to around $300 (or less!). even if its a new SKU with 2 USB ports, a 20/40GB HDD, and no BC. (but they should add in BC to their top-tier system). If they CAN manage to do that, they will probably win this holiday. Odds are, they won't though, and will rather rely on an 80GB LBP bundle for $400 or so. However, a LBP bundle for $350 even, would probably get them close to MS. just drop that price below $400 and you'll see a lot of people "Playing B3yond" I think.

*sigh* Not looking good though. Most likely we won't see another PS3 price drop until early/mid 2009, maybe simultaneous with the KZ2 launch. *shrug*

All I'm saying is... Sony may go back into losing money with that SKU, but if they drop the price to $300 (probalby via a new SKU), and upgrade the 120(i think its 120?)GB version to have BC (it may piss off the 3 people that splurged on the $500 system, but I doubt it, since they bought it knowing it didn't have BC), Sony'd be sitting pretty to take the holiday.

But now I'm repeating myself. That just won't happen. It's almost a guarantee'd "win" for MS this holiday. Especially coupled with their huge ad blitz, and their rather crafty marketing strategies.

If you are going by the world, then perhaps you should check out software sales and attach rates for the two systems. And then maybe retract your previous statements or stop posting altogether.

Wow? I don't even know what to say about this post. Yeah your right, everyone has forgotten about MGS4, Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet, etc. I mean there has been no hype over the resistance sequal and no one has been trying to get Naughty Dog to spill the beans on what their next project is (whether it is Uncharted 2 or a new Jak game). And no one is still talking about MGS4 (end of sarcasm).

Then you bring up MS first party...this is laughable. They almost don't even have a first party. They have PGR, Forza, and Halo... I believe that about sums it up...please correct me if I missed any. But you put those 3 games against Uncharted, Ratchet, Resistance, Warhawk, God of War, GT5, Motorstorm, Socom, and about a dozen more?

MS does have great 3rd party exclusives like Gears and Mass Effect. I am not saying the 360 is not a good console, but your statements act like it has every great game and the PS3 has nothing to offer. They are both good systems, enjoy yours and I will enjoy mine, and stop with the hate.

The XBOX brand never really appealed the European and Japanese market, its largely seen as an American oriented system.

Oh, so now we are not going with the world's reviews but we are going with the worlds sales as we all know sales=quality. I mean Harry Potter sold many units so it must be a great game.

When I talked about the world I was referring to the communites scores on the games, not sales of games. I really didn't think I was going to have to spell that out, but some of us on here needs everything spelled out for us. Sales has very little to do with quality. Look at how many horrid games sold well.

But hey, if you want to hide in your ignorant little fanboy world where the 360 is a god and there are no other good games on other systems, go right a head.

Also, you might not want to hide behind the attach rate either, as that is dwindling too. Just a heads up there.;)

Um, this thread is a discussion of the 360's APPEAL. So therefore it has everything to do with SALES. If something APPEALS to someone, they BUY it. Make sense?

And I never said anything along the lines of the 360 is a god (wtf?) or that there are no good games on other systems. MGS4 is my favorite game this gen. Resistance is my favorite shooter this gen. But please, continue to label me as a fanboy. It will not change the fact that the 360 has the most well rounded and by far the deepest gaming library so far this gen.

Your sarcasm, veiled insults, and air of superiority is garbage. Another poster who would rather insult someone than attempt to actually have a discussion with them.

If you don't want sales.. then wouldn't something like Metacritic be a good basis.. and it pretty much agrees with gamespot.

Well I believe you started with the air of superiority and antisentiments as I highlighted above. And way to twist our comments around and take what I said out of context. I know this thread is about the 360 losing its appeal, but my specific comments were about comparing gaming libraries that were being discussed within the larger umbrella of your topic. Then you specifically responded back about gaming libraries with sales, which I was not discussing and has nothing to do with the quality of the differing libraries.

I was only discussing libraries and that was my debate within your topic. Now you jump back to appeal and sales, which I was not arguing to begin with. And don't care to argue as it really does not concern me. The only reason why I commented at all in here is that I am growing ever so tired of this arguement that the PS3 has no or almost no quality games and the 360 has hundreds. The truth could not be further.

I personally could not care less about sales as I do not work for either company or own any stock in any of the companies. And I do apologize for labeling you as a fanboy, as I was clearly mistaken. It was just up to this point of your last post that you were really coming off strong against anything Playstation and you seemed to be really talking up all things MS.

I really don't want to get in a big war about this but almost no one viewed Ratchet a 7.5 game. Most reputable sites and mags gave Ratchet a 8.5-9.5. Again no one agreed with Uncharted. Nearly everyone gave it a solid 9 to 9.5. Gamespot gave it an 8. Then PD0 got a 9 on here and nearly the entire rest of the world gave it a 7.5 to 8. It just seems like Gamespot was favoring 360s excluvies and bashing on PS3s exclusives. Again, I am not going to discuss this further, as I don't want to start an entire war on biases and conspiracys, I am just stating that GS kind of slammed some games that shouldn't have been slammed and praised some a little more than deserved.

its a known FACT that X360 is destined for failure. the only reason it got some decent games its because it was released first.

had it been it launched side by side with PS3. X360 wont exist today.

xxThyLordxx

The original xbox surived coming a year after the beastly PS2. And you're going to tell me that the 360 wouldn't exist if it was launched along side the PS3? That's laughable.

Games such as Gears of War, Mass Effect, DOA, PGR whatever ect would still be on the 360 even if it came out the same time as PS3. Because MS actually is determined to get games on its console.

As long as it has Mass Effect, I see it as very appealing.

It's the calm before the storm for all systems. I think this holiday season will bring HDTVs and consoles to the next level of market penetration.

(AIG got it's present early)
