At the moment I have a Xbox 360 and a HDTV, I would like to get another console but cannot decide weather to get a PS3 for its HD gaming, Blu-Rayand games like Metal Gear Solid and Grand Turisimo - or a Wii for its cheap price, fun control sceme and overall because its very different to the other two consoles currently out...

Don't get me wrong I do love playing my Xbox 360 and it is by far my fav. current generation console - I'm just looking for something else to go with it.

If anyone has any experiance with a PS3 and Wii and could tell me what they would go for it would be greatly appriciated :) Thanks.

well dude, now that blu-ray has won, its a cheap blu-ray player. plus for the wii, u only get more mario, luigi, peach, saumus, and zelda rammed down ur throats for the 34,000 time

plus u hv the HDTV, so u can really enjoy uncharted, ratchet, and heavenly sword in 1080p!!!!!

Wii now. You'll have Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB soon, soon another Mario Kart, Zelda: TP, Zack and Wiky (if thats how you spell it), and definite port of RE:4, etc. Right now,, the PS3 mostly has the same games as the 360, with a few notable exceptions (Rachet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, etc.)

Get a Wii. Along with the 360 you get the widest range of games/experiences. Just make sure you seperate the wheat from the chaff in terms of game titles.

Wii will offer you a different way of playing games than the ps3 and 360 will. However, with Wii you wont get your MGS4, GT5, etc, but you will get some outstanding first party games, with very limited AA-AAA Third party games like no more heroes, okami, Spore, King Story, Tales of symphonia, etc. Really it depends on the games you want more.

Let the games be the judge of what system you want, forget the fact that the PS3 has a Blu-ray player unless your a tech-guy. Personally i would decide based on games alone.

I own both and if I had to decide, I'd choose the Wii. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are very similar, while the Wii offers something completely different and for a much more affordable price. Buy the Wii now and the PS3 in 2009.

See this is where I am stuck cause with a Wii you get the old classics that I love able to be downloaded over their Market Place thing which is great plus I always loved the Metroid series and Mario Kart.

But then with the PS3 you get the Blu-Ray and games like Killzone 2 that will rock (having had a PS2 in the past but swapping it for a XBOX). This means I wont be botherd about the 40GB version not having backwards compatibility with PS2 games, but I can still play my old PS1 games like Ridge Racer ;)

Another question is how loud are the consoles? I mean with my Xbox 360 its got a silent fan (having a Falcon chip) but when you are playing games the Disc Drive is very loud, which is annoying when watching DVDs.

And can the PS3 play HD-DVDs or do Sony stick to Blu-Ray?

Actually what i basically said is -- forget about the extra add-ons and focus on the games for each console. In the end that is ultimately what you are buying it for. Not blu-ray, not the check mii out channel, not home .. etc.

In your posts you have mentioned 3 games for the ps3 compared to the zero games on the wii, consequently I'd suggest getting a ps3.

i didnt say it was an add-on. I said that i believe purchasing a gaming console should be based on the games alone, not any other specs or features

Just another thing that I have come across is avalability of the Wii.

I mean I'm looking on Amazon UK now and they have none in stock with Used and New starting a £230. I thought the Wii's were only £180?

And I have to admit at the moment I am drawing closer in on the Wii due to the fact that the 360 and PS3's games are very alike and the Wii will let me play some good oldie games :)

... but I do want GT5 and MGS4 ... - wish I had the money for both a Wii and PS3 :P

Even most people with jobs can't find the income to blow on 3 consoles and games for all 3 consoles. We're just lucky.

So you're choosing a console based on overpriced games on the VC, while you mentioned new games you already want for the PS3?

I have a PS360 and I say go with a Wii first. It'll just be more variety for you. You can always pick up a PS3 as well later down the road.

If you have the money, go PS3 otherwise Wii, IMO the Wii currently has the worst games out there and no I'm not a fanboy, in fact the Wii is the only current gen system I have.

Are the games overpriced on the Virtual Console?? See, I don't know these things I'm just saying what draws me into the different consoles. There are games I would like on the Wii such as Metriod Prime, Super Paper Mario and Zelda.

SeeI think those prices are very resonable - I would definatly pay around £6 (compared to the $10 you said, I am british :D) for Super Mario 64, Zelda - are the Star Fox games on there? Those rocked!
See I have to admit my all time fav. console was the Nintendo 64, still is today - just wished my brother hadn't of broken it :P

I see where you are coming from saying that the 360 and PS3 are very similer, especally with games with GTA:IV now being release on the 360 - its just the odd 1 or 2 games that I really like that are only on the PS3 - but an extra £100 is alot just for those 2 games.

Yes, but SM64 and OoT are just straight ports while Lumines was actually worked on with xbl and better graphics than it's
1 year old PSP counterparts.

Lumines Live is crap compared to its PSP counterparts, so the N64 games for $10 are much better deals and the majority of them will last longer.

Here are just some of the games on the Wii Shop Channel:

N64 - Super Mario 64, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, Paper Mario, Pokemon Snap, Sin & Punishment (import), Star Fox 64, Wave Race 64, Yoshi's Story

NES - SMB, SMB2, SMB3, SMB The Lost Levels, Metroid

SNES - Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3, F-Zero, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, LoZ: A Link To The Past

Then there are games from the Genesis, Turbo Grafx and NeoGeo.

Microsoft and Sony charge just as much for downloadable games that are much smaller in scale.

[QUOTE="peter1191"]Wii now. You'll have Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB soon, soon another Mario Kart, Zelda: TP, Zack and Wiky (if thats how you spell it), and definite port of RE:4, etc. Right now,, the PS3 mostly has the same games as the 360, with a few notable exceptions (Rachet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, etc.)tmacscores91

see what i mean ? same mario zelda metroid crap over and over again

Crap? And you shouldn't complain about long franchises, you are most likely hyping for MGS and GTA.

I'd get a Wii. Like you said yourself, it offers more unique gaming experience. That's why I have it as secondary system myself.

Microsoft and Sony charge just as much for downloadable games that are much smaller in scale.BioShockOwnz

This is true - I just checked out the XBL Market Place and was seeing how much the arcade games are- and its like 800MS points for 1 arcade game (Lumines LIVE!) Thats about £7 ($14 ish). I think the VC prices are quite reasonable and maybe you are paying a bit more then you would for the original games but your playing them on your Wii, not need to swap console from NES to N64.... that does seem cool.

But where do you store the games you download? Does the Wii have a HDD or do you buy a Memory Card - if so what size are they?

I also had a ps2 and socom was one of the best shooters. MGS and Socom are the only games I'am notgoingto be able to play. I also like KH but, I think KH3 is going to come out on Wii.

As Kev said, you store the Virtual Console games right on the Wii's internal memory.
