Have you tried racing games in VR?

Just putting this out there. Of all the genres that VR absolutely transforms, racing is way up there. The difference between staring at a flat screen TV/monitor, and actually sitting inside of a vehicle, being able to literally lean out the window and turn your head and see the cars behind you, is night and day. I'd go as far as to say that you haven't truly experienced racing games until you've experienced them done properly in VR. Throw in a racing wheel with pedals/shifter, and it's that much more immersive.

Even without a VR headset, I find racing games could enhance immersion with minor tweaks. One I feel many racing games often ignore is head tracking in 1st person cockpit views. Doing a camera change often creates a camera snap instead of a more immersive panning motion. It annoys me more like in Forza you can pan the camera but you have to start pressing camera forward them rolling the analog one way or the other.

Some games cockpit mode really makes the game. For older games like Motorstorm I feel like 1st vs 3rd person totally changes the experience and the game just isn't exhilarating in 3rd person view while in 1st person view it's friggin nuts. I just couldn't play Apocalypse for a number of reasons, despite lack of freedom of vehicle selection, bugs galore, what killed it for me was the cockpit view, if you did a camera check to left or right from first person view, it swaps to a 3rd person exterior shot... that killed it for me.

Oh dude, yeah, Wipeout is amazing in VR. I put in hundreds of hours on it. Probably my fav VR racing game overall.

Yeah it's a genre that is very well suited to easily adapt games to VR. The immersion is great even if you don't have a wheel, but if you do it feels even more natural. FlatOut was recently announced, looks interesting.

No, and I have absolutely zero interest in doing so.

I did, and it was too much.

Can do pretty much any VR game but racing.

Wipeout Omega Collection rocked when I had it. Eye strain tolerable.

@nod_eclipse_: not yet, been wanting to try it out. Any recommendations for car sims? I think I have a few on Steam but tbh haven't bought any for a while.

I do flight sims in VR though and they. Are. AMAZING!

You literally get vertigo from flying, the immersion and depth perception is amazing. With something like DCS World, it's great because the cockpits are fully interactable and the flight models are essentially realistic so literally the next step would be to fly the actual plane.

In games like VTOL VR, they turn the controllers into your hands in the game, so you can interact with all the switches and buttons. It looks like a potato game in some respects but the depth is just nuts, so much fun.

eye strain was very tolerable, yeah. probably the clearest vr title for the time. i was shocked when i first saw it.

Takes time to set all these up. But worth it.

Automobilista 2. Can't recommend enough. GET IT.

Assetto Corsa. Goes without saying. Very, very smooth in VR if set up correctly. Really good sim.

Heard good things about iRacing....but intimidating, lol. Subscription model, super time-consuming, etc.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is seriously dope in VR, but dude, you need a stomach for it lol

Sounds cool, but can imagine it could get nauseating.

I've never tried VR anything, but I'm patiently waiting for VR to be smaller in size, don't feel like wearing bigass headsets, and more affordable.

I've played racing games in R. ;o
