People are nagging about them in the forums, and I can't understand why. "but I already bought the game once" LOL fine then don't buy it again, it's pretty obvious. But others like me didn't own all systems last gen or get to play every single game. Example I pretty much only had one console last gen because it was seven years ago I was at home and I didn't buy consoles my parents did. Now I own all three and a PC. But I can still play games like God of War or the Metal gear solid games I missed on PS2 last gen as a result of only having on console. You don't like them fine, but its not because dev have no Ideas, Its because the gaming community of the real world has a demand for remakes.

As long as they outsource them to smaller dev houses I really don't care.

Adding to that, I hear the Silent Hill Collection actually looks worse than the original games because they took the fog out, which makes a lot of the bad graphical designs more apparent. That said, not all HD Collections are poorly done. The Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection both looks and runs much smoother than the original versions.

I'm glad with my MGS and DMC collection.

It's fun to play through them again.

I love them, being able to get all the games in one disc that I missed out on(like DMC) in HD as well.

because of people like you is that gaming is only gonna get worse. You don't try to see both sides of the coin, you only care about what benefits you without seeing the whole picture. HD collections are fine but when there isn't an option like BC to compete with it then it just becomes a scam... Is like all those people that pay so much for DLC and then say: if you don't like it don't buy it, or when developers reboot a series just to appeal to another market.

gaming is giving us less for more and is being dumbing down so much because of people like you that bends over so easily. Just wait until next-gen and all these rumors about blocking used games and always online DRM turns out true, the ones to blame will be people like you TC.

Only one that has interested me and i'm satisfied with has been the ICO & shadow of the colossus HD collection. SoC looks amazing even for a Ps2 game :) it looks clearer than the Ps2 version w/o the frame rate problems.. however i doubt they had to do much with it.

I agree, at least for the ones where effort is put in. I hate seeing the same game in a higher resolution, PC does that for free already.

You know TC, PS2 and Wii have a feature called Backward Compability which gives us the chance to play games from the older console without having to buy a HD collection. PS3 had it originally but Sony removed it because it "lowered production costs". I believe that was just a excuse for rip off gamers with HD collections.

I fail to see how the idea of HD collections is a bad thing... it lets people play games they may have missed last generation. It's a good thing, except for people who are really concerned about their favorite console "losing an exclusive."

The only ones that I really see as bad are the ps3 ones, mainly just because of the lack of BC on the system. It just seems like a way to get more sales by not letting you play the ones that you already own, so you have to buy the new collection if you want to play. They are good for those people who didn't have the previous system..but when I have to rebuy the metal gear games or the GOW games because I can't just play them after the ps2 died out it is pretty frustrating.

Seemed to me a lot of those reviewers didn't actually play the collection, the probably just went "oh it's all of the PoP games on one disc at 720p for a low price: 9/10"

So I read some reviews and bought the game: it's totally unplayable because the sound is so bad it's unbearable. First and last Ubisoft collection I will ever buy.

What do you mean there's no competition? There may not be BC anymore, the new Wii models don't have BC, Microsoft stopped expanding its BC list, and PS3 no longer supports BC, but you can still buy PS2 consoles to this day. Plus, these HD Collections are BETTER than the originals. I like having the definitive versions of games, and having multiple games on 1 disc is a huge plus. These HD Collections often times have improved resolution, framerate, trophies, achievements, improved controls, additional content/features, it's very worth it. It's not about competing with BC, it's about offering improved, definitive versions of the best games from last generation. I already own all the original Metal Gear Solid games, but I picked up the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection because they're better versions.

If they were untouched ports released for the PS3 and 360, maybe you'd have a point, but they aren't.

The Wii does not have backwards compatibility anymore. The new SKU Wii model released over a year ago removed BC. Besides, BC isn't as good as HD resolution remasters.

It's not that hard to find a PS2, there's 100 million of them scattered around the world. You can get them for cheap. People act like BC is the only way to play the originals. The HD Collections aren't straight ports of the originals, they're remastered with higher resolution and improved framerate, with the inclusion of trophies and in some cases additional content and features. If you want to play the originals, it isn't hard to find old PS2, Gamecube and Xbox consoles for cheap.

Secondly, Sony is not the only one that has given up on BC, everyone has. The new Wii model released over a year ago is horizontal only, it doesn't stand vertically, and it isn't backwards compatible with Gamecube games. Microsoft cut off support for BC as well. They had a list of games that were BC at launch for the 360, and they do it through software emulation. For each original Xbox game played through BC on the 360, you have to download a patch from LIVE to play it. Microsoft had plans to expand the BC library and create more patches making more original Xbox games playable through BC, but they gave up on that years ago and just said F it.

Besides Ninja Gaiden I haven't found any other games worth repurchasing. Rather spend money on other games. Only time I probably buy ports/remastered games is if I missed them on previous gen. Also I think it's stupid how the big 3 removed bc or stopped updating bc list. They should of kept them.

What bothers me about HD collections is that it's proof they're running out of ideas in the gaming industry. They don't feel like putting a new IP out on the market, so they resort to going back to old IPs that used to be popular because they know those games will sell well. Why is it that they didn't need to do this for PS1 or N64 games in the PS2 + Gamecube era? Why was there no Crash Bandicoot or Spyro collection for the PS2?

Even people who own copies of the games with the working consoles to play them on will still buy the HD collections. What are they smoking? It's a waste of money if you already own the game. They say that it's nice to play the game in HD. Really!? That's your reasoning!? The games dont' look THAT much better on the PS3. It's the same damn game, you're just playing it on a different console. Are you so lazy that you don't feel like hooking up your PS2? First world problems.

And even if you didn't own the game, it's normally cheaper to buy the original versions anyway. MGS2 is only $3 and MGS3 is only $6 last I checked. That's how I played the Metal Gear Solid games I missed out on.

You also can't expect them to make HD collections for every game you missed out on. If there's a game for the PS2 or Gamecube you missed out on and want to play, get off your lazy as* and go find a copy before it's too late! That's what I did with Shenmue for the Dreamcast.

Oh really?; well, I can't blame Ninty. If Sony is getting away with what they want with HD collections no wonder Nintendo and Microsoft will remove the BC compatibility on their next consoles. With this I expect Nintendo to announce in this year's E3 that you should hold your Wii because Wii U will lack BC.

I buy the HD collections for games that I already have, and I have a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, GC, Xbox, PS1, N64 and Dreamcast all hooked up and ready to go as we speak. Yeah, they may be the same game, but the HD Collections look way better.

I can understand HD ports of first party games because last gen games do look horrible on HDTVs, but for other games, I would much rather just get a port to the PC where I could play it at whatever resolution I want. Some games, like PoP and Splinter Cell, are already on the PC for like $5, so it seems like a huge ripoff when they bring out the HD console port.

You're kidding right? It's all on making money. They give you the same game with 2% improved graphics, and a dozen of trophies and what? For the price of a new game that I never played?

HD collections are not a good thing. They will keep making them until your wallets are dry.

I'm actually completely fine with paying full price for a game thta I haven't played. like the God of War HD collection. I never played GoW1 or GoW 2 before buying it so it was a great deal for me. it was that or go buy a ps2.

[QUOTE="GeoffZak"]

GeoffZak

I buy the HD collections for games that I already have, and I have a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, GC, Xbox, PS1, N64 and Dreamcast all hooked up and ready to go as we speak. It's nice to play the games in HD, yes, that's my reasoning. The framerate is also vastly improved, and you have the inclusion of trophies, achievements, content and features. These HD Collections are the definitive versions of the best games from last generation. I have all the Metal Gear Solid games, and I still got the HD Collection for the resolution, despite having a PS2 hooked up, and a 60gig fully backwards compatible PS3 hooked up as well.

Yeah, they may be the same game, but the HD Collections look way better.

Just because it looks better?

That's so STUPID!

So what if the framerate isn't a flawless 60fps? The games still run well enough and look great. You really can't ask for much more. First world problems.

It is a first world problem, and the HD collection is a first world solution.

1. If they allowed for backwards compatibility with HD upscaling you wouldn't be making these dumbass comments. 2. They would be worth it if they actually added content rather than just release a new, HD-upscaled version of the game. It's a cash grab, plain and simple.

Issues arise because some of them are actually worse than the originals and serve as a replacement to backwards compatibility. They're great for people who missed out on the games the first time around though.

95% of "HD Collections" do nothing but upscale to 720p/1080p and smooth the edges. My launch PS3 does that for free already. PS2 games in 1080p on launch PS3s look great.

We need more remakes that have the same quality as Star Fox 64 3D. That was a total remake.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is my favorite HD collection so far. Not only does it have smoothing options, widescreen options and higher resolutions, but it has galleries, box art, descriptions, random facts and other information for every single game included.

It includes all of these games on 1 disc.

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Beyond Oasis
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Dynamite Headdy

Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: The Tides of Time
Fatal Labyrinth
Flicky
Gain Ground

BRING ON THE GTA HD COLLECTION!!! Games have been repackaged for years. How many Genesis game collections have Sega released? Nintendo's done it for years as well. I dunno why suddenly some people act like HD collections are a rip off. Frankly I love playing older games revamped in HD with achievement/trophy support.

A Super Nintendo collection would be AMAZING. I sometimes regret selling my Wii just for the all the old games you can download.

I love HD collections, I love playing great games from last gen with achievements and HD. I just wish Ubisoft's collections were also on PS3, but I broke down and got PoP triology on PS3. You also have to realize not everyone got to play these games last gen. Since I sat out most of the gen, and jumped in near the end with an XBOX, I missed out on Ratchet and Sly, so these are collections I'm very interested in.

We all need the GTA Vice City/San Andreas HD treatment though.
