even if PS3 was backwards compatable with PS2 games i would still get HD collections. improved visual fidelity + trophies is worth it to me imo.

I don't mind them. I didn't have a PS2 last gen so a lot of the games are new to me and having at least 2 games is great value. I bought the Sly Cooper collection for 10 dollars.

um no...The concept of HD collections now is a bad thing its a sloppily thrown together set of games that are given the most rudamentary updates and then thrown out there to make a quick cash in, remasters of games like Halo anniversary are the way to go, Or complete from the ground up remakes.

because of people like you is that gaming is only gonna get worse. You don't try to see both sides of the coin, you only care about what benefits you without seeing the whole picture. HD collections are fine but when there isn't an option like BC to compete with it then it just becomes a scam... Is like all those people that pay so much for DLC and then say: if you don't like it don't buy it, or when developers reboot a series just to appeal to another market.

gaming is giving us less for more and is being dumbing down so much because of people like you that bends over so easily. Just wait until next-gen and all these rumors about blocking used games and always online DRM turns out true, the ones to blame will be people like you TC.

Gue1
backwards compatibility with these systems are generally getting too complex, even with all of ps3's power it actually struggles to emulate the Graphics Synthesizer because of the custom hardware. The other choice is to keep piling more and more chips into each new system made... They could do a better job at extracting the hardware through API's but then kick ass game engines aren't going to be made as much.

You know TC, PS2 and Wii have a feature called Backward Compability which gives us the chance to play games from the older console without having to buy a HD collection. PS3 had it originally but Sony removed it because it "lowered production costs". I believe that was just a excuse for rip off gamers with HD collections.

Miroku32

Sony didnt remove BC so that they can sell HD collections. Jack Tretton himself said back in 2007 that BC wasnt even that expensive anyways, and that that WASNT the reason. Sony removed BC from the PS3, so that people would keep buying PS2's which still sell to this day. (and this was when Sony was bleeding money on every PS3 sold).

If PS3 had kept BC, then people would have just bought PS3s, and then their goes the revenue stream they get from selling dirt cheap PS2s at a high profit margin.

[QUOTE="Zeviander"]1. If they allowed for backwards compatibility with HD upscaling you wouldn't be making these dumbass comments. 2. They would be worth it if they actually added content rather than just release a new, HD-upscaled version of the game. It's a cash grab, plain and simple.

except for the part where many of these games are pretty damn hard to find, so even with upscaled BC, it's a lot of trouble to play it. i see HD collections as an improved, bundled reprint.

I agree the Last Guardian and SOTC HD collections are favorite and for honorable mention the GOW HD collection playing that in 1080p is just amazing.

and the fact they lied to the consumer about a software emulator and then they released one that you get with the ps2 classics you can download.

I disagree. I've yet to buy a cash-in sloppy HD Collection... to be honest only ones I've bought have been the God of War games... I'll pick up other HD collections on games I've missed out on when they drop in price. But I'll buy day one a GTA HD collection. I cant believe they havent done that yet... considering they ported PSP GTA's to PS2, and Rockstar have released San Andreas on the marketplace. They'd make a killing off a GTA HD collection.

They're good if you missed out on a series and don't want to hunt down the games at some retro store or ebay.

A Super Nintendo collection would be AMAZING. I sometimes regret selling my Wii just for the all the old games you can download. carljohnson3456

Id say so far for the most part they have been a bad thing. I feel like if you gonna go back and redo these games and ask $40 for them then they should be well done. Many of these collections are coming incomplete, Full of bugs / issues not present in the original and most are being up-scaled to HD resolutions instead of being rendered in HD.

All are unacceptable to me. I mean look at the SH collection if you can even call it a collection. Theres only 2 Sh games there out out like what 10. They should have def added in SH1 even if they needed a another disc for the 360 version. They really should have also thrown in SH4 for good measure then you could call it a collection.

Then there's the bugs and graphical / sound issues that weren't present in the original games. The SH collection shows everything that's wrong with these remakes right now. They aren't all bad and some are done really well but im finding those to be few and far in between.

That's true, the HD Collections that come with bugs and glitches not present in the originals look like rushed cash-ins to me. ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the God of War Collections are really well done. The Sly Collection and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection are really well done as well. I've heard there are problems with the Devil May Cry, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Silent Hill collections.

The collections that are well done are definitely worth owning.

I personally like them, I got Sly Cooper HD collection for FREE (well it's with PS Plus anyway, so at no additional cost I should say) and it's perfect. They even improved some things from the origional, I thought it was a great game and even better than when I played it on PS2.

I want the Jak HD collection so bad...

so wait...you've yet to buy a crappy one yet you've only bought one? and least of all to say yes god of war hd collection was a cheap cash in. they increased the resolution, and frames and added some trophies otherwise nothing else was upgraded or increased, it took them maybe all of 8 months to do and it was a quick cash in. HD collection was an hd rerelease, I want remasters or remakes not rereleases.

I enjoy the HD collections that been released so far, mainly MGS and Team Ico, and I'd still buy them if the PS3 was backwards compatible.

HD collections are just the console gamers' way of telling me they actually do appreciate resolution increases, better performance, and graphics.

Yeah, though I hate when remakes sometimes end up being worse somehow due to some changes, like Turtles in Time, loved it on Arcade and SNES, didn't like the remake as much on XBLA.

Ha, true, and I hope they don't think PC gamers only care about it as well.

They're a cash grab.

But the Ico/SOTC collection is nice for people....before,you'd have a better chance of finding Jimmy Hoffa than a Ps2 copy of Ico at a gamestop.

The god of war colection was truely a cash grab. It was an upscale to 720p with 2xAA and 60 fps. Textures, models, sound effects, voice overs, etc. were all ported with no changes at all.

It's the equivalent to running a console port on PC.
