MEGA MILKAGE! these hd remakes and downloadable ps2 games on psn are showing us the real reason sony got rid of backwards compatability for the ps3

Sony didnt get rid of backwards compatability so they could sell you remakes, and PSN games. They got rid of backwards compatability so that people would KEEP BUYING PS2's, which sony makes a s*** ton of money off of, for every one sold. Remember, PS2's are still selling to this day, and they ship comparable yearly shipments to even the PS3's yearly shipments. (only like 3-4 million units behind). They also rake in hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue due to the high profit margins of the PS2 (it is dirt cheap for them to make them). Also, remember that when Sony made the descision to remove backwards compatability, Sony was still bleeding out money left and right, losing money on every PS3 sold, while at the same time making HUGE profit on every PS2 sold. Remove backwards compatability = people will keep buying PS2s, therefore they will keep making money. They were DEEP in the red with no other option, and the last thing they needed was this pretty little revenue stream dissapearing because people stopped buying PS2s and just bought PS3's instead.
Now as for the HD remakes, this was never Sony's original plan. The whole PS2 HD collections thing started with God of War. Sony and the God of War team posted on the Playstation Blog asking God of War fans what they wanted to see in the collectors edition of God of War 3. An overwhelming number of responses were "we want to see HD remasters of GoW 1 &2" and it was originally going to be in the Collectors Edition of GOW3, but instead, they made it a standalone retail release, and it ended up selling 2 million units. Then team Ico saw this, and started meeting with Sony about an Ico/SoC collection because he wanted one. Then every other Sony developer (and 3rd parties) followed suit, and this is what has come of it.
At the end of the day it doesnt really bother me because the devs have said themselves that it doesnt take much effort and resources to port it over anyways, and it doesnt take away from the development of new games.
