http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Disc_Sales/Amazon/Disc_Sales:_Planet_Earth_Breaks_New_Amazon_Record_HD_DVD_Staging_a_Comeback/580

Planet Earth (discovery channel series) has been released on both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, and the HD-DVD version has broken Amazon's records.

I sided with HD-DVD a long time ago with the Toshiba A-1 player, and this is very good news!

Anyone who bought an HD-DVD or BR player this early at those prices either has too much money or not enough brain cells.

I just sold my damn hd-dvd drive because I didn't really use it. Now my wife wants that Planet Earth show in hd really BAD. Unfortunately for me my wife always gets what she wants. So, I either have to pick up a used hd-dvd drive for $150 on Ebay or pay $600 for the cheapest Blu-ray player (PS3). Which do you think I'll end up doing?

Just looking at the chart they showed. It shows Blue-ray slowly going down and HD is rising up fast. Just more bad news for cows.

So you would fall into the money part, seeing as you justified spending $500+ on an HD-DVD player that might just be a huge paperweight in a year or so. I wasn't directing my original post directly at you.

Why would you buy Planet Earth on either format, I have recorded them all on my dvr from the Hi-Def channel. Incredible series, time lapse photography in HD FTW.

when I upgraded my cable subscription it was an extra $15 a month for an 80gig dvr and about twenty hi-def channels, definately the most cost effective way to see this and many other shows in HD.

HD-DVD owners haven't gone anywhere anyway.  We're just waiting on something to buy.  When something like PLANET EARTH can sell like this, the industry should take note.  The matrix (exclusive) and The Lord of The Rings (exclusive) will sell ridiculously well.

The article also says tahtthere was a buy-a-thon that probably contributed to the spike in sales. When other titles come out, Blu Ray will spike again/

it's only going to get worse for sony/bd/cows because the matrix trilogy (2 different sets) are coming out on may 22 (bd is only getting the cheaper box set and it won't be out until fall) and 70 more hd dvd titles are coming out between now and july. if toshiba decides to institute another price drop, sony and cows can say bye-bye to blu-ray.

only the cheaper $100 box set not the $130 ultimate matrix box set. also, don't expect sin city, sin city 2, or grindhouse to come out on blu-ray because they distributed by dimension films, a division of the weinstein group (hd dvd exclusive).

nice how you avoided the lord of the rings. lotr is a new lines cinema release. new line cinema is hd dvd exclusive. lort is hd dvd exclusive. the official blu-ray website (blu-ray.com) has no listing for the lord of the rings even after using the search tool in the movies section. add to this fox has postpone nearly all blu-ray releases to an unkown time and one can see bd is going to lose by early 2008.

people that actually have blu ray player are teenage PS3 owners, and you know teens are not gonna spend money on buying Planet Earth movies.

It sold better on HD DVD cause most HD DVD owners have stand alone players and are prob a average age of 28. who would like Planet Earth.  like me.

true. i saw that too but it was too late and i didn't feel like going back to fix it, anyway, bd will get both box sets but not until november at the earliest. they are waiting for BD-J to be finalized but that's not until oct. 21. the hd dvd versions of the movies are already done and include features that are not currently on most bd titles (pip commentary, interactive menus in the feature film, etc.) that's also the reason why lotr is bring held back. the hd dvd versions of both box sets (regular and extended editions) are being held back because of bd-j. damn you sony and your half-assed/fully crippled formats! i want my movies already!

common sence,  most teens will laugh at people who sit and watch something like planet earth.   my wife laughs at me and she is 2 years younger than me.

it's not something teens will buy, and like i said most blu ray player owners are ps3 owners. which are teens in most cases.

something like MTV road rules would sell best on blu ray right now.

[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]HD-DVD owners haven't gone anywhere anyway. We're just waiting on something to buy. When something like PLANET EARTH can sell like this, the industry should take note. The matrix (exclusive) and The Lord of The Rings (exclusive) will sell ridiculously well.latinrage69

Nope.

Its just coming to Blu-ray owners at a later date

LINK

nice how you avoided the lord of the rings. lotr is a new lines cinema release. new line cinema is hd dvd exclusive. lort is hd dvd exclusive. the official blu-ray website (blu-ray.com) has no listing for the lord of the rings even after using the search tool in the movies section. add to this fox has postpone nearly all blu-ray releases to an unkown time and one can see bd is going to lose by early 2008.

new line cinema supports both

[QUOTE="Eltroz"]Just looking at the chart they showed. It shows Blue-ray slowly going down and HD is rising up fast. Just more bad news for cows.Blinblingthing

it's only going to get worse for sony/bd/cows because the matrix trilogy (2 different sets) are coming out on may 22 (bd is only getting the cheaper box set and it won't be out until fall) and 70 more hd dvd titles are coming out between now and july. if toshiba decides to institute another price drop, sony and cows can say bye-bye to blu-ray.

Its not quantity but quality.

No one cares whose getiing 200 movies etc. People are looking for the big name movies

top 20 grossing films

1 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
2 Night at the Museum
3 Cars
4 X-Men: The Last Stand Fox
5 The Da Vinci Code
6 Superman Returns
7 Happy Feet
8 Ice Age: The Meltdown
9 Casino Royale
10 The Pursuit of Happyness
11 Over the Hedge
12 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
13 Click
14 Mission: Impossible III
15 The Departed
16 Borat
17 The Devil Wears Prada
18 The Break-Up
19 Dreamgirls
20 Scary Movie 4

19 are gonna be on Blu-ray 12 are gonna be exclusive

8 Are gonna be on HD DVD 1 is exclusive

SO how is HD DVD suppose to win

are you serious? click? talledega nights? those two aren't quality or high grossing. they were and still are crap films. that's kind of self-ownage on your part. you say quality movies and list those two brain dead snore fests. also, look at the titles of the upcoming movies, there are more quality movies coming out for hd dvd than bd. here's the list for both. take your time and read through them.

here's another list of upcoming titles.

LOL where did you pull those speculations out of?

common sence, most teens will laugh at people who sit and watch something like planet earth. my wife laughs at me and she is 2 years younger than me.

it's not something teens will buy, and like i said most blu ray player owners are ps3 owners. which are teens in most cases.

something like MTV road rules would sell best on blu ray right now.

Where are you getting that from?

Ironic, it's sense not "sence," I'm a teenager and Planet Earth is amazing. I'd rather watch Planet Earth than any show on anyother channel when it airs on Discovery.

When the Nielsen Videoscan numbers begin to reflect that then the people in the Blu-Ray camp should be concerned, but with such a slim margin at this point it really isn't anything to be concerned about.
