Walmart is the biggest retailer in the US.

People always check Walmart first since they usually have the best prices.

Think I got Guitar Hero 2 for only 69.99

This will be big for HD DVD if it's true.

That's not an article.  It's an opinion piece by Robert Ederle, one of HD-DVD's biggest cheerleaders.

I never go to Walmart. I can't even find a Walmart in NYC. If I wanna buy a blu-ray I eather go to Best-Buy, Circuit City or Amazon.com.  There are great deals on amazon.com!  I suggest everyone visit it if you wanna buy blu-ray's.

On the other hand Walmart may support HD-DVD but the cost of blu-laiser just went down so that means blu-ray's will be cheaper to and more movie studios support blu-ray than HD-DVD. If anything...HD-DVD will loose out!

But they are the biggest retailer in the US,

I'd take better price over service anyday.

What was the cost of the Blu-ray diode before?

I hardly think that a few dollar decrease in one part is going to transfer on to consumers.

We do have a K-Mart. But Best Buy always has the better prices for CD's and DVD's.

Yeah, Wal Mart beats Best Buy in price, and they took out K-Mart to almost bankruptcy.

haha, maybe you should get Wal-Marts actual opinion before you quote someone who is GUESSING.  That's right, the guy is guessing that Wal-Mart will eventually support HDD because it's cheaper.  No where does he have evidence that Wal-Mart is dropping Blu-Ray.  He says because they are driven by cost, HDD will be their choice.  Again, his opinion.

The only thing in his report that can be listed as accurate is the fact there will be cheap HD players this year.  The rest he kind of made up as he went along.  LOL, I find this hiliarious......Wal-Mart declares the winner.  Specially when Blu-Ray is winning by a large margin right now.

Well technically speaking 300 will be out for both formats (at least it should be).  The studio is Warner and they are supporting both formats at the moment.

Spiderman 3, you are correct that will be a Blu-Ray exclusive.

Funny how the HD DVD camp cant confirm this rumor....

"The biggest news to hit the format war in some time hit last week with word that Wal-Mart and China's Great Wall corporation struck a deal to bring inexpensive HD DVD players to market. While this is would be great news for all HD fans, we were left a bit worrisome by the translation dispute between the two camps. Just to make sure we had our facts straight, we updated the post and contacted HD DVD to get the full story. While the HD DVD camp reminded us that they have inexpensive players from China on the way, they weren't able to confirm any "specific reports relating to Wal-Mart". It seems to us that if this were indeed true, that the HD DVD camp would be the first to trumpet its significance to their success in the format war. As much as we all want inexpensive next generation HD disc players, we will just have to wait for something more official before we hold off on our purchases waiting for Wal-Mart."

And there is an update for the rumor on the cheap walmart HD DVD player stating it was badly translated and might even mean Blu ray.  Sorry to tell you but it is sounding more and more like false hope and rumors.

The format that is outselling the competition by thousands each month and has the most movie studio support is gonna win.  That seems to be Blu ray.  The PS3 audience buying blu ray movies also helps its victory.

Not everything Walmart does is successful.  They don't start any trends or decide anything.  Once something is decided they come in and take over the market, but that's different.  As posted in the that BLOG (that's all it is a blog by a HD DVD Cheerleader, no different than this forum) Linspire anyone?  People predicted doom and gloom for windows with linspire, now nobody even knows what it is.

People keep saying that the cheap dvd players and wal-mart et. al decided DVD's dominance.  No, DVD beat out DIVX (Circuit City, go look it up) from enthusiasts who don't go to Wal-Mart.  Once that format war was decided, mass acceptance took cheap players and dvd's at wal-mart.

These still might turn out to be Blu-Ray players after all. All we know is Wal-Mart is bring some $300 hi-def player out this year and it will probably decide the format war for good its true. We just dont know which one.

Agree, I buy most media from Amazon.  I won't step foot in a Wal-Mart.  The people in there are nasty and the checkout lines are too long.  I much prefer Target.

You may or may not have heard that Wal-mart is scrapping all of its blu-ray support by year end, and they are supporting HD-DVD for reasons of cheapness, HD-DVDs are made on the same line as normal DVDs and are considerably less expensive than Blu-Ray. ALso the machines are cheaper and wal-mart bying stuff for cheap and selling for cheap wants to attract more traffic (customers). THis means that movie studios will either have to support HD-DVD or both.

Read article for more indepth info

This could spell a major disadvantage for sony, ps3, and its movie studio.

umm...the date of the article states THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2005????  I hardly doubt that article is referring to something that happens a year and some change in the future.

That article is dated October 20th, 2005. It has nothing to do with the rumored Wal-Mart deal.

Actually Sherlock, the correlation of the article is Toshiba joining up with Chinese manufacturers.  The statement with"poor translation" about the Walmart deal was about Chinese manufacturers licensed by Toshiba.

Come on now... let's put 2 and 2 together...come on now... you can do it...!!!

Good boy!  See, I told you if you use your brain you could do it!!!

[QUOTE="Cronaroth"]WalMart is far from the best place for movies...plenty of times ive found better deals at say Best Buy-and heck now most of the time I buy online since the best prices are online....I never see High Def movies at walmart anyways...and their DVD selection is just pathetic....I buy games every so often there since they do a much better job on games...but movies...never...ramey70

Agree, I buy most media from Amazon. I won't step foot in a Wal-Mart. The people in there are nasty and the checkout lines are too long. I much prefer Target.

Target is the classy version of Wal-Mart.  Its clean, its well lit, its well organized, and the people that shop there aren't collecting from the government ;O

You see thats called assuming and that gets people into alot of trouble.  YOu are trying to put the square block in the hole meant for the triangle just because you think it fits doesnt mean its true.  That is VERY old news and lots of things could have changed since then.
