I like it. It was very nice in both MP3 and H3 . Its really nice when it comes to the sun. Its the only way to make it realistic. Not that it matters.meetroid8
There ain't no HDR in MP3 (despite what GameSpot might lead you to believe).
This topic is locked from further discussion.
And BTW, that Brightside model you listed isn't a consumer model and it costs about 50,000.
The only special thing about it is its contrast ratio and blinding brightness. Again though, it has NOTHING to do with HDR lighting used in gaming.

Not relevant.
Very bright TV'sbright are not watchable.
I have to turn down the brightness onevery set I've calibrated to make it within acceptable range.
Brighter doesn't equal better.

No, that's a TV that corrects contrast ratio. HDR (the one used in games) is done by the GPU alone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_renderingThat's why I said it's not terrible but pointless. It's like watching a 1080p blu-ray movie on a SD-TV... it will look somewhat better... but for the full experience you will need a 1080p TV.
Sorry, you don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about.
BD will not look any better on an SD TV, in fact HD resolutions won't even play on a SD TV. SD TV don't have HDMI inputs either. You can't play Blu Ray discs on a SD TV. Standard def TV's CAN NOT accept any incoming resolutions greater than 480i.
And there is no "HDR-capable" monitor (HDR in the sense of the lighting scheme used in games) television. There are TV's with varying contrast ratios and what not (and lots of those numbers are pure vodoo science, NO LCDmonitor has come close to matching the black levels of a superb CRT monitor.) The monitor you listed will not perform any better black-level wise than a CRT monitor, it's the nature of the differences between LCD and CRT.
I'm sorry to see that you missed the whole point I was trying to make.

Dynamic Range
The term dynamic range refers to the maximum range between the darkest and brightest parts of a displayed image. Compared to a 600:1 contrast ratio for conventional CRTs and 500:1 for a good flat-panel LCD, the HDR display technology offers a contrast ratio of 200,000:1. This means displays using our technology offer more than ten times higher brightness as well as a black that is more than ten times darker than any commercially available display. This remarkable display capability covers nearly the entire luminance range encountered in the real world-in increments so small, they are not even distinguishable to the human eye.
High-Dynamic-Range Displays
The DR37-P is a spectacular breakthrough in display technology. It uses an array of individually modulated LED backlights to provide 10 times the brightness and 100 times the contrast of existing television and computer monitors. The Extreme Dynamic Range display delivers more vibrant images, enabling you to see information onscreen in vivid detail.
Extreme Dynamic Range
Over 3,000 cd/m2 brightness
0.015 cd/m2 black level
Contrast ratio > 200,000:1
High-definition 1,920 x 1,080
37-inch screen
16 bits per color
Array of individually modulated LED (IMLED) backlights
learn something new everyday.

I agree with you, maybe pointless was not the right word as the HDR images represent somewhat better the contrast rate in real life. But if you have a overly bright point on the screen it makes the rest look very VERY dark and that was what the TC was complaining, and I could not agree with him more.

Either everything is washed out in this disgusting glow hiding the textures.
Or it's too dark, hiding the textures...

Yes I have, and I returned it. after a week.
let me give you something to actually report.
Your a moron. Your a jackass.... and.... you dont have a clue. Bozo.
it seems like its a problem with your TV or yourinability to adjust contrast and brightness to suit HDR lighting. But HDR lighting is here to stay so..... get over it or get out.
Woa!
Heh,I always saw HDR as a good thing because it make games more realistic. But bloom...........thats terrible (in a lot of games).

As much as i disagree with the language Coyo7e used i have to agree with what he said, i have halo 3, i have oblivion (the sun at the waterfornt district in imperial city is awesome) both use HDR and look amamzing however when i move my 360 from my SDTV to my parents 60" widescreen i have to change all the setting toget the HDR looking its best. if you thinkHDR isn't a nessesity i think you should learn how to use yourconsole proplerly.Honestly without Halo3s awesone HDR which i thinkis responsible for the 640p resolutionwould the scarab explosions look as great?
HDR is a method of increasing the range of colors viewable depending on what kind of surface a light souce is hitting. Its like when you look at a leaf in RL, you dont see just "green" you see a whole range of green colors depending on the time of day, angle of the sun, and the leaf itself. HDR attempts to simulate that. Bloom is an effect that attempts to simulate the blurring effect our eyes see when looking at a very bright light source, or a reflective surface that is under a bright light source.
Developers often overuse the bloom effect, thus causing many people to plunge popsicle sticks into their eyes after playing a couple hours of games like GRAW

Hmm.... are you talking to me? If so, I dont care how Halo3 looks as long as it's fun and I'm sure it's a great game for a lot of people but not for me.
lots of miss information in this thread, my final year project was about HDRI so i've got a good background on it. The bright side TV is a HDR TV and when fed with a HDR source, looks much more lifelike. And has the best black levels. So much so that in the dark when it is displaying black, you can't see the screen. read this article... http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/10/03/brightside_hdr_edr/1megamef

It makes Halo 3 and Crysis looks amazing.DivergeUnify
hdr was also amazing in hl2 lost coast (the originator?) and hl2 episode 1 and 2 had fantastic hdr. bloom is ok if its used correctly but over usage looks really bad. one of my most anticipated games is guilty of this too, RE5, in some videos and shots the sky is white :(

Wow, that's really lame. I've been suspended for minor things like that plenty of times. Makes no sense what so ever. That's not a valid insult.
Anyhow, yeah it can be annoying at times. Especially in newer games such as Halo 3 which basically depends on it. Take that away and I doubt the game would look nearly half as "good" or plastic.
