If you don't own an HDTV you really have no idea what the whole huss fuss is about my tiny p is better than your fancy i. But I'll tell you this...after playing on an HDTV seeing games on SDTV made me not even interested in gaming....it's pretty much like there's no point...the picture is so terrible and lame you don't even care about the game..

Word to those thinkin about making the HD plunge...do it...believe me when I say your opinion on a LOT of games will change when you do.

Games you notice the most difference with.

Gears of War

Resistance: Fall of Man

Motorstorm

Oblivion (PS3)

CoD3 (360)

Flow - this one is amazing in 7.1 on an HDTV....weird I know.

NextGenNow...I totally agree with you.  Playing Gears of War at my friends house on his 40" 1080P Bravia LCD HDTV makes me not want to play games on my SDTV.  New Sony Bravia Line coming out in July....Damn, time to save up 2k!

Tell Sheep that, they think any game will fit on Wii long as you degrade the graphics enough...

Either way, im playing my 360 on my monitor and it looks great.

Well, if you don't even have to worry about an SDTV, there's no reason going "you can't go back". Might as well say "I've a GBA but I can't go back to GBC because I sold it".

But yeah, on the short-term if you're in a friend's house, you get used to pretty much everything after a couple of minutes. Eyes are magically adjustable like that.

Its no where near as bad as that. I had to do that when I first moved out of my parents house. That was beyond terrible I never got over it. I got over HDTV to SDTV in about an hour.

I agree, I can barely stand to play PS2 games any more. At least they look somewhat better on an HDTV than on an SDTV (and PS3 upscaling helps a little) but if I had to go back to SDTV I think my interest in games would die. I've been playing on an HDTV for over a year and not too long ago I played a PS2 game at my friends house on a 27" CRT SDTV and I thought it looked so bad. I could never see myself playing games on those things ever again (except like above at someone elses place). LOL

Actually it depends somewhat on your SDTV. Before I moved up to HDTV I thought Gears looked unbelievable even on my old 36" Toshiba SDTV via S-Video. Im still impressed when I see it on that tv today. While it will never look as good as it does on my HDTV, it hardly made me not want to look at it.

What if Motorstorm looked like RC Pro Am on the NES then? It would have been rated about a 3 if it was lucky.

HD gaming is something I am telling...YOU CANNOT be without. :o

It makes the experience so much better...I mean sound and graphics have always been the two biggies...

Imagine plugging your ears..then taking your hands away to 7.1 surround sound hearing a rain forrest...

Or closing your eyes...only to open them to the night sky for the first time....seeing all the stars...

amazing...HD gaming >>> Real Life.

there is difference and you know it. the gap this generation has been smaller than in past gens. I'm not talking about obsurd differences in graphics like 2D to 3D here. but If you are playing on an SDTV it makes it even smaller. and the push over the past 30 years hasnt just been for better graphics. its been more for the underlying things like physics to improve gameplay.

and actually I do play my friends SNES. plus NES and SNES games on my GBA and virtual console.

I'm talking about the super high end graphics making the game compared to average graphics.

What about God of War 3? Ratchet & Clank (ps3) is certainly going to offer some compelling gameplay as well... you're comparing Sony's golden child, the pinnacle of seven years of development experience on their PS2 platform, to a handful of third party titles on a new (and poorly selling / supported) system.

High-end graphics, and the effect owning devices / televisions capable of supporting them - well it's world rocking. I'm absolutely loving my HDTV and sound system, as soon as I get my job, well, there's no excuse for my desktop PC using the old monitor it uses - it's time for it to go 1080p... and now that I've had a 27" 720p HDTV, I want to get a projector... it would be amazing to have HD-films / games on a 75" screen.

*sigh* well in any case, I'll be getting the 360 / pc upgrades soon... kind of have to buy furniture for new apartment before any other purchases are happening.

All I was trying to say was that better graphics=/=better game. thats it. not that there cant be good games with better graphics because there are plenty of them. and while going from SDTV to HDTV is awesome. its just wasnt that big of a deal to me. I just moved out of my appartment (therefore losing my use of my roomates HDTV for my 360) and am now back to playing on an SDTV and it hasnt phased me.

I'd get the VGA adaptor if I was in your shoes... then again, I'm a pretty competitive player, so I hate the idea of giving my opponent an edge by giving him an opportunity to see me slightly before I can see him. The best gaming screens are smaller monitors, not giant HDTVs, you don't want to have to turn your head *at all* during game sessions, things on the periphery of your vision will kill you before you can react.

There's a pretty staunch difference between 480i and 720p.

PS 1 and PS2 games are still fun but they pale in comparision to the future PS3 has coming...I am equipped console wise for this epic holiday season...Heavenly Sword and Uncharted are my biggest waits..but Rachet is indeed a close third as Subrosian mentioned.

how much is a VGA adapter? and where would I find one? (theres no best buy here) because the lack of wide screen is actually noticable.

In short, HD > SD

but, it's not as important as the TC is making it out as. Plenty of people are still playing machines capable of HD but on SDTV, they still look good. But 1080P? i'd rather go 720 with a nice framerate. frames per second > higher res. I've played in 40-50" HD displays, the initial feeling is amazing, but in no way does it MAKE the game.

Last gen is fine on a Sdtv, With the 360 and Ps3 you will loose alot of detail and in alot of games it can be horrible, Rfom was pathetic on a hd tv in 480i and it looked flat and blurry like a ps2 game, I cant go back though and at the very least ill go down to 480p which is what the Wii offers which is why i wasnt to worried when i got it.

I have a nice SDTV so I'm in no rush for a HDTV yet. The prices keep getting lower on HDTV's so I'll probably buy one next year. besides, I have the GC and a Wii so I don't really need a HDTV other than wanting to make my DVD's look better.

720p is Hd so is 1080i/1080p, It actually pretty hard to tell the diffrence of 1080p and you need a pretty big tv to notice it, This is why i play my games at 720p and my movies at 1080i and change if i need to, 1080i for that extra detail which i probaly cant even notice or 720p for a cleaner picture if required, 1080p is the best of both worlds but i aint going to spend twice the money for something i can adjust in the settings.

[QUOTE="NextGenNow"][QUOTE="laughingman42"]because graphics makes the game and everything. laughingman42
Yeah they do...and for 30 years graphics have been what push the envelope in gaming.

then why on earth did motorstorm get only an A? It has freaking awesome graphics It should have been AAA if graphics were most important.

Motorstorm was robbed, because not only did it look great, but it's a blast to play.

Yeah, I can't go back to standard def.RoslindaleOne

And neither can I. After playing for many years on sdtv I finally made the plunge to a hdtv.  A 40" Samsung lcd tv. There is a difference, I can never go back to sdtv and those that say they cant see the difference are lying.

[QUOTE="SergeantSnitch"]NextGenNow...I totally agree with you. Playing Gears of War at my friends house on his 40" 1080P Bravia LCD HDTV makes me not want to play games on my SDTV. New Sony Bravia Line coming out in July....Damn, time to save up 2k!istreakforfood

wtf he said a positive thing about gears wow and then i see sergent as usual promoting/advertising sony products like he does on most of his post.

anyways does this mean tc wont ever play ps2/ps1 games again since the visuals arent good as the current games out right now. going to miss out on some upcoming ps2 games.

Lmao, I don't "promote" Sony products in most of my posts...I'm just saying I'm going to buy a new Sony HDTV this summer, that's all.

Have you seen the new Sony Bravia V-series that due in July, or the new W-series?  Also the 40 inch XBR4's are coming also, but those are REALLY expensive ($3000).
