Yes! Yes! Awesome. I'm having an awesomegasm. Sounds like Mr. Cage and team indeed have learned from past experience. This is exactly what I was hoping the game would be like, an expansion of the diner scene from Fahrenheit. I just hope they manage to maintain that totally sweet game design and atmosphere throughout the entire game this time around. It'll truly be a fantastic game if they do. As in one of my personal best games ever.
WTF are we hyping here? Gameplay non-existant, wooden acting by a CG mo-cap or something. What is the hype-gimmick here? It looks good but for a trailer it should well do. Could someone explain why I should bother tracking this?ToScA-

If you didn't like Indigo Prophecy, I don't think this is for you :P

Farenheit was good enough for the first few bits but after that i wanted more than a B movie thriller plot and "press x now and cool stuff'll happen or else", saturated after a while.

Heavy Rain is a very lame name for a videogame. Much like other Sony games including Resistance and Uncharted, it just feels forced, default and unoriginal. LBP is good though but then again they were probably thinking of Reno, Nevada when they came up with it.

Quote: (Trailer stuff)
We watched as Madison wandered into the backyard and noticed that the kitchen window was slightly ajar.

(A little gameplay)
Madison kicked some nearby barrels into place so that she could get into the house. Before she entered, a couple of thoughts went on in her head that you can listen to or just move on. Once inside the house, Madison walked around the living room, and we noticed that she could interact with several things in the environment. She could sit on the couch, check out the fireplace, or go through the door to the garage. We were told that you can also explore in narrow spaces and never have to worry about your character getting stuck. In the garage we saw a trail of blood and noticed that there was a garage switch on the left. She headed upstairs and we immediately noticed that the floorboards were creaking. Things started to pick up when Madison discovered a dead body in the tub and then stumbled into a room in which several women had been stuffed.

The rain, the lighting and the colors help set the mood for this short thriller.

(Ed.: Scenario 1)
Of course, that was the perfect time for the taxidermist to return, and the screen split to show the taxidermist on the left, headed into his home, and Madison on the right as she tried to figure out what to do. The music also picked up here to drive the gravity of the situation as Madison tiptoed slowly across the hall to try to sneak out through the garage. Staying quiet, Madison got out of the house by using the garage switch, and she quickly jumped onto her motorcycle, which took a bit of button mashing before it would start. She finally got her helmet on and sped away.

(Ed.: Scenario 2)
After this scenario, Cage explained that this was only one possible story. Like it would in the actual game, the next scenario would take this information and continue to tell the story based on what had been done. Considering that this demo wasn't following the actual storyline of Heavy Rain, we were brought back to the scene in which the taxidermist returned to his house, but this time what followed was completely different. The taxidermist heard Madison upstairs and came looking for her. We were told that there are as many as 20 to 30 hiding places in the house. As Madison hid behind a door, a sequence of buttons appeared that needed to be held to simulate the same uncomfortable feeling of being stuck. She moved to another hiding spot, at which point she came face to face with the creep. He attacked, and Madison fought back with an object that she grabbed off of the nightstand. She ran downstairs and tripped, subsequently heading to the front door to find it locked. Then she ran to the kitchen window, which wouldn't open anymore. She finally made her way to the garage, flipped the switch, and ran to her bike with the murderer close behind. She frantically tried to start her motorcycle, and when it finally did, she took off and left her helmet behind.

(Ed.: Truckload of awesome)
This was a much more intense, action-filled scenario, the kind in which you feel like you're in serious danger, but these were only two of the possible scenarios that a player could have gone through. We were told that the player controlling Madison had messed up numerous times but still managed to escape. You could have killed the villain in various ways; you could have stayed hidden and called the police. Madison could also be killed, and the fascinating part is that the game would not be over. Events would merely continue with that information taken into account. Cage was tight-lipped about any further details as to how this would work or how things would continue, but we do know that there is no game over in Heavy Rain. skiddy666

*sigh* don't want to be the pessimist (lie) but hasn't this been promised and implimented below par in a million other games. What would be the limit as to the decisions that affect the storyline, how could A)the writers and B) the programmers have enough control to emulate the illusion of free will in a closed-end video game?

As expected the actually game isn't as impressive as the two year old tech demo (as some would have you believe); and while impressive looking doesn't feel that much off what already exists. It appears the facial expressions don't have an ounce of the emotional 'flexibility' that the old video had.

As for the game play, if it is heavily reliant on pressing buttons that appear on the screen at the right moment; I'm not bothered about it only being on PS3. That sort of stuff really gets on my nerves; so why would I want to play a game that relies on it heavily?

Regardless it is a platform exclusive so will be hyped to high heaven.

I was a bit disappointed in the non-expressive look of the character, considering that's supposed to be one of the big things with this game, but there's lots of time left to pretty that up.

I was thinking the same thing.

If everything goes according to plan the story will be the gameplay. And while I was hoping for something different, I don't really mind the return of the QTE's. Just as long as they don't overdo it it can make for a welcome change of pace.

And you claim to have played Fahrenheit? The question isn't if they can create the illusion of choices and consequences, but if they can maintain it.

In the diner scene you could interact with a bunch of stuff, calling your brother for help, choosing to pay your check or not, finishing your coffee to not arouse suspicion, mopping the floor, looking for another way out than the front door etc. Just masterfully designed, really tense and intriguing. You had all these choices, and you were left wondering if you made the right ones, and what other choices you could've made. Perhaps I shouldn't have just rushed out the front door, making the waitress yell at me for bailing on the check? Perhaps you shouldn't have gotten your brother involved?

Problem was, not all scenes were as intricate as the diner scene. It became more linear. And ultimately the decisions you made early on didn't amount to much, so it kind of fell apart there. But like I said, when you were playing that scene it was fantastic. It is quite an undertaking to make most of the scenes close to that level, and I don't know if they'll deliver, but I'm definitely hopeful.

Name a console game you think looks better and has a better psychological atmosphere? ill wait :D

Silent hill 1-3

Had to jump in on this one because it may be the most ridiculous thing i've ever read on here. You are telling me that a PS1 and 2 PS2 games look better than this game. The hate is just mind boggling. It's obvious you are a fanboy but damn, at least make a logical comparison. That was just sad
I can't get hyped for this game until I know what it's about and how the game plays. So far 99% of the screenshots are pics of a girl. While impressive shots of a girl, I hardly see how this gets people hyped. Of all the target renders they have done on previous games I'm shocked Sony hasn't released anything on this game. I really hope this isn't some Silent Hill remake because I would be pretty disappointed it if was.angry_fork

Play Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit to see why it should be hyped.

You don't have to play all of it but atleast the beginning, it was very unique imo and Heavy Rain will be the same.

I have no idea what Indigo Prophecy or Fahrenheit is. How is this game supposed to be played? It looks like silent hill from the screen shots (without the scary mutants). Everyone says the game will play very unique but what exactly does that mean? Pretend I don't know anything about the title you are comparing it too (because I don't :) )

Fahrenheit was the game that the developer made before this, in the U.S. it's called Indigo Prophecy.

Basically in Fahrenheit you got a very wide range of choices available to you, for instance in the beginning of the game you find yourself in the bathroom of a diner standing over a dead guy with blood and a knife in your hands. You have no clue what happened or why and you're just there, then the screen splits into 2 and you see a cop is outside like at the little bar-kinda area eating.

Then it goes back to you and you have to figure out how to get out of this situation, you can pick the body up, use a mop on the side to clean the blood, wash your hands, etc. or you can do none of these. Eventually the cop starts to head to the bathroom just to go or w/e, and you have to do these things fast and it makes it intense because he's coming. If you leave the blood there and don't clean it you have to get out of the restuarant fast but he'll still see it, if you wash your hands or w/e and leave you have to pay your bill or else the waitress will yell at you unless you run out, you can escape the back way etc. things like that.

Later on in the game things like that occurred less and less, but that beginning level is what Heavy Rain will most likely be for the WHOLE game, which is really amazing and tense, you should really play the game or you could watch it on Youtube, there's some videos showing that level which is also the demo for PC.

heavy fail.....looks like shenmue lolprimateface
Well both Heavy rain and Shenmue are both adventure titles and very story driven. They're bound to have some similarities. I don't see why your bashing the game it looks really good.

Very slim. It's being published by Sony, and the writer/director of the game, David Cage, has said that he does not particularly like the idea of working with the PC. He has said in an interview that he prefers to work exclusively on one closed system so that he can be sure the game is being experienced exactly as he intended without interference from various hardware/software limitations.

IDK.. when it was first announced it was a multi-plat title for PS3,360,PC but the devs decided to make it a PS3 exclusive.

The game will provide a new spin on QTE's. They're more like quick choice events.

Eventually, the two come face-to-face, and button-pressing minigames appear on the screen for quick movements: tap Triangle to run down stairs, tap Square to hurdle a ledge, jam on Triangle to try to open the garage door, etc. You'll have some control within these sequences -- you can choose different paths by changing your point of view, and you can jump back and forth over the ledge if you want -- but mostly, these scenes continue the theme of making things look as pretty as possible while being simple to control

I went from "well I don't really mind..." to "sounds interesting".

It looks very impressive but before we go and hype the graphics and teh cell too much, allow me to point something out. The entire game engine is rendering one woman. Does anyone remember the tech demo of the ps3 rendering the guy from spiderman 3 before it was launched.

I'd like to see a game like this on the PC, now just imagine what the GTX 280 or 4870 could do using a similar small environment?

Sorry type-o on my part. I agree with you Shenmue was great favorite adventure title next to IP. Also it looks like Heavy rain might just beat out IP.

The game is exactly what I expected from Quanitc Dream, it is going to be a dark thriller with alot of emotions involved, I like the gameplay trialer very much, this and Team ICO's next game will be my most anticipated games for 2009.
It doesn't look THAT impressive, stop the massive hype. Looks just like another Indigo Prophecy with more fancy visuals.TREAL_Since

Even if that statement were true, I fail to see how that's a bad thing.

The only problem I had with the game was the alien crap and the button tapping during cut-scenes. They need to ditch stuff like this.

Looks like you will be disppointed since there is clearly QTE events and the children are aliens.

The children are dead corpses not aliens.

Yeah there won't be be any supernatural shenanigans taking place.
No secret bum society helping Neo Kane fight Agent Mayan Oracle and the internet disguised as an old wheelchair lady over the indigo child and Croma, or whatever the hell.
Seriously, I couldn't believe that ****. I was utterly flabbergasted. By the yellow happening in particular. What the ****ing ****?!
