A lot are confused about why Heavy Rain is becoming so polular here on SW. A lot believe that it's nothing more than just an interactive movie. Well it's more than that.

Controls

This game is not just button queues. You do have control of your character during most of the story. You have the option to progress the story or explore your surroundings some more.

Replay Value

You play as several characters in the game. Should one die it's game over for that character. There are no do overs and the story continues without that character. The game can ends in so many different was that, depending on your curiosity, will make you play again. Perhaps all of you characters lived and you were happy with the ending, what would happed if one of the key characters died?

Graphics

We've all seen the game. There really no need to go into it.

Story

This game is going to be very story driven. For those enjoy deep plots and great character development in their games it should be a treat.

Originality

Heavy Rain's approach is a nice break from a constant stream of shooters and fighting games.

I don't see how people can dismiss this game so easily. Unless you're into fast paced explosive games exclusively, I think people should give it a try when it's released.

I really enjoyed Indigo Prophecy, the last game they made, so I'm hoping this will be as good and actually have a sensible ending and not have... internet Mayans... :|

While I am not expecting to be wowed by it, I am still keeping an open mind. Is it valid to hype it, though? Seems many have high expectations for the game, so I suppose it is, lol. People will hype what they are excited for, so no reason this should be an exception.

I think the game will be pretty good, but not GOTY material like some people are speculating. I'll guess 8.5

I'll repost this from another thread:

It completely misses the point of what video games are. It can be done just as well in another medium. There's no convincing argument that it can't be made as a movie or as a book, therefore fails as a video game. Sure, you might enjoy it - but you won't like it for interacting with it.

That's the dillema of a reviewer. Review the experience as a whole or the, you know, actual game? Can video game critics review movies and books just as well as they review games?

Expect a lot of conflicting opinions when HR launches. I am not too keen on playing with my virtual son in a virtual garden, but we'll see.

I don't think people realize what type of game this is going to be and are instead simply amazed by the graphics and content over anything else. Indigo Prophecy was a decent adventure game, but it is NOT a game for everyone. This game seems to be heading down the same territory and I have a feeling many people will feel disappointed by the end product.

How do you think the public are going to feel about an interactive movie? especially with all the other big titles coming out in 2010 like GOW3, GT5, Halo Reach, Splinter Cell etc. Even if you look away from the fact that it is severly overwhelmed by major titles, people will still look down on it for its "gameplay". Yes it might something different for once unlike the standard action adventure (uncharted 2), but that doesn't equal good, so far we have seen nothing but walking from place to place, putting mascara and QTE's, do you really that catches the public's eye?

Again, I would care about it only if it was more interactive. Because that's what I play games for. It would be awesome if the story unfolds through the actions you make, and not choose.

While this game promises a ton of innovation, and great things I'm looking at it w/ a cautious view. People tend to forget that everything before a game's release is marketing. Game journalist will rarely say anything bad about a game before it's released especially on something coming from a major publisher.

Indigo Prophecy has some really great gameplay/storytelling elements, but they also made plenty of mistakes also. Though they seemed to know their past mistakes doesn't mean they're not going to make new mistakes. Mistakes are really easy when you're dealing w/ innovative design, and Quantic Dream hasn't proven they know how to prevent mistakes in design before they occur.

I bet it will do good, but I could careless about it.

It's mainly hyped because of graphics...

While a little different is good, makes you stand out some, being very different can cause problems. Im thinking the result will be alot like Psychonauts, critics will love it but no one actually buys it.

AA? Definitely AAA from majority mainstream reviewing sites. Anything less is just blatant fanboyism or dislike of said genre.

Their very similar previous game scored AA here on Gamespot (and should have scored a lot less, imo), so hyping it AA seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

You probably still have to go in designated places to trigger the next part of the story, though.

i dont get why people are so hell bent on trying to kill this game, are they really that insecure about it being a ps3 exclusive. because going by the track record of SW if it was multiplat alot of the naysayers would be hyping this game.

Which doesn't make Heavy Rain unique in this respect and that was my point I tried to prove. Thank you for nodding :).

I wasn't trying to say it was unique in this respect. People were suggesting it's not a video game because all you do is press a button and a movie plays. It's not the case at all, there are exploration points and parts where you have full control of your character.

Graphics. Looks nice. Game reminds me of Indigo Prophecy. Maybe I'm the one guy who didn't like it. But I also feel like the one guy who gives a crap about story in video games.

Yeah. God forbid it not play like every other game. Gamers tend to keep an eye on weird/cool lookin games and Heavy Rain is one of them.

Heavy Rain looks to be an interesting experiment in game design, but I think that the critical success of the game will be hindered somewhat by its lack of mainstream appeal. Critics tend to give more credit to things that have some sort of mainstream audience, which I think is unfortunate; Heavy Rain will be another sacrificial victim of an industry that relies heavily on popular success.

As one of the few people here that has actually played a bit of the game I can tell say with a resounding yes! This game deserves its hype, there is enough player control and interaction to keep you interested and the replay value is off the walls.

In viewing three playthroughs of the game and playing one myself of the same demo area, all 4 of us had far different conclusions than each other in the demo. We all tackled it from different angles and did different actions with different consequences. And it was a pretty high tense situation that required plenty of "interaction" and those button presses (or non presses) changed the flow and/or outcome of the scene.

People have been enjoying adventure games for a long time and there is no reason why people wouldn't be excited for Heavy Rain.
