Not to mention, if we're talking replay value... The ME games are probably the most replayable RPG's to date.

Hahadouken

Diablo says Hi! ;)

I love ME2 and all (like a first-born son), but I think Diablo really hit the "replayability" thing about as hard as it's possible to hit it.

Really? Dragon Age and Mass Effect have virtually zero similarity...

TheEroica

Welllll... I hate to interject on his behalf, but may I point out the DAO Origin story up to Ostagar's joining ceremony, and Mass 1's Citadel prelude up to the Spectre recruitment? :P

I only say it for comedic purposes, but the similarities were pretty funny to me when I noticed them.

Most RPGs are like this though, they baby you for an hour or two, then a huge catastrophic event turns the world on it's head, you have to step up, and the training wheels come off. It's not just a BioWare thing.

EDIT: What is with Gamespot absolutely BUTCHERING my posts, screwing up the quotes, etc.? Really quite annoying to type 5 paragraphs and have it come out as a big fat blob of text that nobody will read (I wouldn't).

Well if you dig hard enough you're going to find similarities in EVERY game... JRPG's have basically made the same game time after time for over 20 years. To say that "once you've played one bioware game you've played them all" is like saying, "i've eaten the yummiest chocalate cake on Earth, I dont wish to eat anymore..." its just stupid.

[QUOTE="jonesy1911"]Heavy Rain, seriously, ME2 is a great game but like others have said, if you've played a bioware game before you've played ME2.jonesy1911

Really? Dragon Age and Mass Effect have virtually zero similarity...

Run around, talk to people, shoot(hit) stuff, Biotics(magic) etc etc, I've played both games and while they are not the same games persay they deffinitly have similarities. When was the last time you played a game like heavy rain? last gen?

Just like God of War is exactly like Halo, you know you go around and swing/shoot demons/aliens and repeat. Yea all games are exactly alike...

I've seen some reviews for Heavy Rain, and I was quite disappointed. It isn't as good as I thought it would be, I thought the gameplay would be similar to The Longest Journey or The Secret of Monkey Island, but I dunno maybe I'm wrong =p So, I recommend getting Mass Effect 2, it's simply epic.

Heavy Rain, easy choice. I own both games and I find myself playing Heavy Rain 3 times that of Mass Effect 2, the story is just so engaging and you actually connect with each character of the story. Heavy Rain is simply an awe-inspiring game of dramatic story-telling.

I own both games & if you can only buy 1 of them then I'd go with Mass Effect 2 due solely to game length. I've played through ME 2 twice & clocked in over 20 hours both times.

Sorry, Xbox 360, Bioware, and Mass Effect 2. You're all amazing. And I still love you.

But Heavy Rain is my recommendation.

Of course your playing Heavy Rain a lot more now, you have already played the hell out of ME 2.

So Heavy Rain would be the smartest purchase? Wouldn't it be better for TC to rent Heavy Rain?

No. There are so many outcomes to your actions in Heavy Rain. Not only the ending, but every scene. The choices and outcomes are broad, even if the game is very linear in its environment structure. And said choices and outcomes will have an overall effect, and a pretty significant one, on how everything plays out each time.

This thread seems like it's point of existence is to infuriate the 360 and PS3 fanboys. That being said, Mass Effect 2. I'm a film student. And I love video games. But for some reason, the two don't go well together. Oh, and Heavy Rain's narrative isn't anything special. In fact, when you dissect it - it has major plot holes..

That's a tough question, considering both of them are two of my favorite games this gen. I would say... umm. I can't decide. :(
