Its kind of odd to see some Sony fannies jelly about this game on the xbox. PS gamers must really hate the notion of gameplay.

It's called having varied gaming tastes. It's also called just being a gamer. Yeah, I enjoy some walking simulator-type games, as well as some essentially cinematic games. But I also love deep gameplay. Games like the Divinity series, Wasteland, Sekiro, Soulsborne games (beat all of them+platinum), tactical shooters like Firewall, inventive stealth/action like the Dishonored series, the Ninja Gaiden series, old school games like NES Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Contra, Bionic Commando etc etc. The list can go on and on, but you get the point. Just because a person likes a cinematic/walking simulator game does not necessarily mean they only like that kind of game.

And, yeah, I'm jealous that Hellblade 2 won't be on the PS5. Screw it, I'll admit it. I'm honestly considering getting a Series X for this game. Ninja Theory is a cool dev. If Obsidian starts also making games that won't be on PS then I'm definitely getting an Xbox.

I was under the impression that every PS4 owner has a gaming PC, so you can play it on your PC. And Obsidian most likely would not be making games for the PS4/5, PC and Series X are going to be their platform of choice. Who knows, maybe Xcloud would allow for more hardware agnostic gaming allowing you to play on the PS4/5.

I do have a PC, but I'm not into PC gaming. I spend literally all day just about every day staring at a monitor. I can't bring myself to use a PC for gaming after all that, unless it's for VR.

That being said, my husband's building me a new PC. I should have it somewhere around Jan/Feb. It will definitely be capable of high-end gaming, but we'll see if I use it for that (probably not). I'm just a console gamer, pretty much. Always have been. Like I said, if Obsidian cuts out PS, which it looks like they might, then I'm almost surely getting an Xbox.

Well it is what it is. If we didn't have this dumb fanboy faction running the industry gamers can spend more of time selecting their game of choice over game of choice depending on the system.

I enjoyed the first quite a bit. Enough to platinum it. This seems a decent way for Microsoft to tiptoe their way back into the narrative-driven experience. This isn't enough to convince me to purchase another Xbox, though. Give me another Fable, and then we'll be talking.

Cool. A sequel to a game that lems trashed to no end. On a lemming console.

You sound like those lems/cows still salty at Platinum for working with Nintendo (first started with Bayonetta 2 being Wii U exclusive, then review bombing Astral Chain).

I absolutely loved the first game and believe that this is a great move on Microsoft's part. I hate that it won't be on the PS5. Question though. Hellblade is about as much of a "movie game" as any Sony game I've played. Are Xbox gamers truly excited about this when it seems to be the kind of game they often disparage on these boards?

So true. Just buy what you enjoy; regardless of the platform it's on and regardless of whatever your stance was to previous console iterations.

You are confusing real time with in-engine (what this trailer is). Completely different things, as the "in engine" footage can be rendered at 2fps in "real time", for all we know.

yea, awful pacing and puzzle design, mediocre combat. interesting narrative concept but it didn't grab me.

I was just talking with a friend before the game awards about how the critics got it wrong with this one, was laughing pretty hard at this annoucement due to the timing

Yeah, I actually kind of despised the whole puzzle design. Find this symbol multiple times. Oh, how fun. The combat was also kind of boring.

Although, I loved the sound design, and the graphics were good. Concept was neat, too. If they fixed the combat, and maybe focused less on puzzle elements, I'd be on board.

Either way, it's coming to PC, yeah? So we can check it out of it happens to be good.

@subspecies: What's the difference between hooking a console up to your TV versus a PC? 95% of games are designed to also be used with controllers, so I fail to see why it would matter which one you are playing on.

The pacing and puzzle design could have possibly been in a way to pad the game out since they were working with a very limited budget and team size. With Microsoft funding them now they should be able to go all out and expand on content.

@DragonfireXZ95: Pretty much what I do although there is a controller companion app you can use to navigate around windows. Steam controller also acts as a mouse in windows. You don't even gotta do that you can just set Steam to auto launch in big picture mode. Steam can also go into big picture mode if its already opened and you hold the home button. For Xbox app you can activate it for by pushing home button if you give it option.

Tried the original after everyone hyped it up and it sucked. Maybe I'm missing something.

Same here. I was all geared up for some kind of amazing game and it did nothing for me at all.

I liked the art style and the spooky psycho atmosphere but the actual game was just pants. I kept at it for a while convinced I was missing something but came to the conclusion it was the game that was missing any kind of vital ingredient to keep me playing.

Maybe the sequel will be better, hopefully they won't go for style over substance and simple puzzles to keep people plodding along next time.

Definitely a talented dev team though, like some other people on here I was hoping they would go for something completely different this time.

@rmpumper: Well, based on the trend from this gen it seems that Microsoft seem to do timed exclusives frequently. Also the first game was on PS4 so it'd make sense for it to also come out on PS5 even if it's not immediately.

@subspecies: well said. The silliness is hilarious here. Take pdogg calling hellblade mediocre now, in a forum that swears by critical reception and sales. 😂

I’ve read enough in life to know a decent writer can take the narrative somewhere new.

I’m more interested and hopeful as to improvement to gameplay. The combat had a simplicity in that you didn’t have to maintain the weapon or upgrade it etc. But I hope they broaden they depth of combat.

How about less walking around this time also Ninja Theory?

This was my most interesting game of the game awards. With a bigger budget who knows what ninja theory can come up with.

I love how PC gets so many games that other systems dont give to each other. Probably why it has a 100+ game lead this gen.

It is hard to call Hellblade a legit game, and I don't mean that as a criticism, because it was a really great interactive experience, with a very important message, and showed that games can really reach across the monitor and be something incredible foreign yet also very relevant.

With that said, I do hope Hellblade 2 is more game-like in the traditional sense.

Very disappointed with Hellblade when I got round to playing it. I don't understand why it was hyped up so much it wasn't particurlarly awful, just very average at best. But man those graphics in that Hellblade 2 trailer are super sweet. But unless there is a complete overhaul in the gameplay and pacing found in the first, this will definitely be a skip or cheapy gamepass option.
