i think its the fact your getting a more powerful console for less money. how much more powerful doesnt really matter...its more powerful than the X1 and it costs less. unlike the PS3 (which was an almighty screw up) sony have played an absolute blinder with the PS4s hardware and strategy. its biggest poblem at the moment is games but its just launched...the post launch blues should be over by the end of the year.
kinect is not a system seller. its like the wiiu gamepad...no one cares. so they dont see the point in spending that extra 100 quid on the X1 just like they dont see the point in saving money and getting a wiiu.
if i was MS though i wouldn't be too concerned yet. focus on that exclusive and timed exclusive content for the big games, focus on live and i think the X1 should continue to pick up. i would only be concerned if a lot of people stopped their live subscription (and i dont think that will happen in any major way between gens).
i am surprised MS have not adopted the phone business model though. X1 for half the current price and a 5 year contract with xbox live (with a higher rate than the standard live fee). there would be a short terms loss but all those new subs would be gold dust.
