[QUOTE="ramey70"]Sony Pictures posted a 55% increase in operating revenues for 2007. I can't believe you think that is poor. Vandalvideo
It is when you look at the menial gross revenue.

What should a Picture Studio's revenue be for you to consider it healthy?

That's impossible. Some of the most highly educated and respected minds in the business world post on system wars and have clearly said otherwise.

LOL...............I was thinking the exact same thing.

I just hate how people bash a system that has been out only been out 4 months in the US. Give it time.

During my time working at a picture studio as a professional photographer, we could gross that revenue on a large scale easily. Of course, sony isn't specialized in photography alone, so you have to take that into account as well. I'm merely saying its a possibility that they could have merely lost funding in the game department to prompt growth in another department.

SCEA spokesman David Karraker said that the staff 'alignment' is to aid in the companies restructuring and allow it to maintain its position in the market.

They actually -want- to be in last place??!!! :o

Well, it at least explains alot of their decisions.... Mark my words, they're doing this to make a comeback with PS4, so they appear stronger than ever before!

Well, they're technically still in first place with the PS2.

Oh I agree totally with what you're saying.  I just don't get the blanket observation that Sony Pictures is performing poorly when we have no gauge to judge what a good performance for that department would be.

Haha I'm not that surprised considering the massive losses of Sony... they have to cut down expenses.Mardil

Are you seriously laughing at this? These are people who have LOST THEIR JOBS and you say "Haha"! What the heck is wrong with you, and not just you, but all fanboys. If you saw this story and the first thing you thought was "LoL Sony suxorz, ps3 suxorz, they lay people off cuz of ps3!", then you seriously need help.

Oh I see, of course! It all makes sense now! Next-gen doesn't start until they say so! *nods* Wanna bet they'll say it when the PS4 arrives?! *nod nod*

Did you even read it? It's not like he gives a real answer as to why it happened. Just that it is due to changing markets and multiple issues. So yes it's more than just the PS3 crappy sales, but also what caused those crappy sales. Like people wanting real online experience.

====

His quote:

This move is not wholly related to any one product in our portfolio. More accurately, it is reflective of shifts in the marketplace and in consumers' wants and needs, such as the rise of digital content delivery and networked services.

In order to maintain our market leadership, the management of SCEA has found it necessary to analyze the business and restructure the company as necessary."

How about if you look in the same paragraph at this bolded part....

More accurately, it is reflective of shifts in the marketplace and in consumers' wants and needs, such as the rise of digital content delivery and networked services.

I love how people think its because of PS3s crappy sales...but the problem with that logic is that Sony takes a loss with the PS3s sales so if Sony sold MORE PS3s they would be even more in debt.
