"Consumers may hope for improved graphics, and my guess is that Nintendo will comply," said analyst Michael Pachter in an email to GamePro.

"In two or three years, commodity prices for graphics processors and CPUs may decline to the point that a High Definition Wii could be introduced. If so, Nintendo will likely introduce one," he added.

The statement comes as several industry pundits suggest that Wii's success will gradually fade given the console's dated graphics technology. The long-standing argument is that both core and casual gamers will grow wary of Wii's novelty once Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics hit their full stride.

Do you agree? Id personally buy another Wii if it had better graphics.

I don't think that will ever happen. Nintendo isn't going to switch from making all games natively in 480p to 720p. This is what an analyst thinks might happen, not Nintendo thinking about doing it.

An analyst, eh?

I think to add HD is to somehow undermine their plan with this system, and to wait several years after launch seems silly to me. Just wait until the next console iteration to introduce it.

Even if they made a wii that upscaled to 720p I'd buy it. It currently looks rubbish at 480p next to my 360

He is right for the most part, but Michael Pachter is a hardcore gamer, and more times than not he is right. Anyway, about the topic at hand, what is the point of HD content if the content is garbage? Better textures on trash FTW!!!!!!

He also said at E3 Microsoft would announce a core 360 being $199.99, premium being $299.99 and elite being $399.99

They would also be screwing their early adopters. People said Sony did it because of a price drop, but this is basically a new system.

I would be so pissed off @ nintendo if they did that now.....

Screw that they choose to go the under powered system route and get there sytem out there for cheap, and its working, but if they release a "hi Def" version I would be totally pissed off, and I would I would Boycott the Nintendo brand.

If there is one thing I can't stand is re-releasing crap and making consumers buy the "newer better version" The only reason I did not get so pissed off with the 360 elite, is that it has no featuers that I care about ( I don't need HDMI and the bigger Hard drive is for people that waste money on the video marketplace )

09 is to early but ti wont be long after that Nintendo will have a follow up console, I dont see the Wii having the same lifespan as their previous consoles anyway. I highly doubt they will be lazy enough to use the name Wii 2, that is a Sony thing Nintendo will think up an even more shocking god awful name for their next console, since its following Wii it will be something excrement related...

That would be absolute BS milkage extraordinaire, sound just about right for Nintendo.

Of course that would shaft anyone who wasted money on the non high def Wii.

If possible I'd rather just see an update to the firmware so it can support 720p. I think introducing a whole other SKU would be unnecessary and would piss off people like me.

So instead of crappy graphics in 480p you get crappy graphics in 720p. Yay, progress. :|

upconverting native 480p games to 720p is not going to be kind to the visuals. The only upside I see to this is the possibility of playing hd movie formats. That's a plus, but big whoop, it's a game console.

I would after the original Wii had been around for 5 years. Being that this is supposed to be a 10year console generation, I think that would be fair.

Nintendo would suffer tremendously if they stretched this crap out for 10 years...

... What I don't understand is that He thinks people will stop buying it or not like it as much when the Xbox 360 and PS3 hit there full stride with graphics... XD There is a huge gap already and it's not stopping people... I don't see what diffrence it would make.

Nah, it would have little use for HD. If you're playing on an hd tv and it comes out blurry (Which really confuses me, as I play on an hd tv and it comes out clear as anything else) than find one of those upscaler do-hickys

If graphical standards are the reason that the Wii's going to fade, then it would have already faded with Wii Sports being one of its defining titles.

If Gears of War didn't put Wii Sports to shame in the public's eye, then graphical standards are not going to be what kills the Wii's momentum.

Honestly, I doubt Nintendo would do that. They're current philosophy is not having WOW HD graphics RIGHT NOW. I would expect their next console to have HD, but not now.

It still would be upscalled not true hd. Upscalled low res textures will still look like low res textures. Just like the Xbox/PS2 games that are upscalled on the 360/PS3.

Prospector
Yeah, Nintendo could always include a upscaler chip. Since they're making a nice profit from he Wii anyway, they could still sell it for $250 with thechip. Upscaled 720p will still look way better then the native 480p the Wii spits out.

You'll own or have access to a HDTV some day. Why not havea console that is HD ready so that when you can play on one, it won't look like crap. Playing the Wii on a HDTV is sometimes painful to watch, the Wii could use an upscaler chip.

I don't know, didn't Shigeru Miyamoto himselfsay something about how the Wii could eventually be equipped with HD capabilities? I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that, and it wasn't too long ago.

PSP isn't going to $500

The Wii is out-selling the PS3 Worldwide 3x

Ds Is also Outselling the PSP
