it definately isn't Grand Theft Auto if you go by game rankings. some of the games in the series did not do well with reviews.

Yeah but a lot of places like IGN and Gamespot orgasmed over GTA III, VC, SA, and GTAIV.

That's because they were releasing 2D games like 5 years aftter 3D was born.

Hard to say. Some franchises like Zelda date back before there were many reviewers out there.

Also, do you count spinoffs? I mean, I consider Mario's 3D and 2D platformers seperate franchises, but there are others that will count every single game Mario is in.

No, no, no. Its averages have drastically increased with time, but the two before III weren't really highly rated. Then there's the expansion packs, the ports, the GBC GTA, the spin offs (Stories), and other things that may bring down the average. I'd replace that with Final Fantasy.

some how I get the feeling that you are reading the title of this thread. We're discussing what are the highest rated franchises are. Since, GTA 1, 2, and London got pretty bad reviews, that makes it not the highest rated franchise.

It has to be Halo...usmcjdk6

Halo is up there but the PC versions didnt do as great.

There's more Half-Life games than Halo games so go hate on them.

Half life has a lot of AA games in the franchise.Zero5000X
