Of course the game will be awesome, but I can't help but feel that the perfect score was meant to appease fanboys just a little.

[QUOTE="Zenfoldor"]Look jabronies, Famitsu is far more respected than is this website, IGN, or anything in English, short of Gamerankings, and I'll tell you another thing, when Japanese gamers look for which game to purchase, they sure as hell ain't looking through translated magazines like we are right now, so get over yourselves, all of you who scoff at that magazine, and put more creedance in Gamespot than you do Famitsu, what are you smoking?
sonicmj1
And I don't look through Famitsu for tips on what games to get, and neither do most English-speaking people. Otherwise, I might be purchasing stuff like Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 (35/40), or perhaps I'd consider stuff like Gundam: Crossfire (32/40) and Sonic the Hedgehog for 360 (30/40) passable games.
Famitsu is not a particularly credible source, because they are incredibly close to publishers, and it directly affects scores. This is a fact. If that link isn't good enough for you, there are plenty of other places that say the same thing. I don't think they are so deep in people's pockets that they'd give a bad game a 40, but this influence definitely shows.
I'm looking forward to Brawl, and hope it gets AAA here. But that has nothing to do with what Famitsu says. Famitsu is a Japanese magazine with Japanese tastes, and what it likes does not always have any relation to what I like.
If it had been anything but a 40/40, I would agree with you, but Famitsu never seems to give 40/40s lightly. I think that SSBB should at least be at AAA hype now that it's one of only seven games to get 40/40.

That's the real frustrating thing here. By any other measure, SSBB is at AAA hype. Heck, there's a 5,500 post thread on the front page of SW now about every update available for Brawl. Nothing like that exists for any other game, and it serves to highlight the excitement around it. Brawl is the game that will push the Wii even further past the 360, the game that will justify the purchase of the console for the hardcore gamer, the game that will outsell Halo 3. For many people on this board, Brawl will be their game of the year.
Yet many of those same people hype it AA, because they think GS will underrate it. That's a prediction, not hype. It's dishonest. Kind of like having a "Buy No More Heroes" sig, and then hyping that game A.

It's because people (like me) have gotten so sick of this flop **** that they under hype games. kinda like people screaming that TP sucks when it got an 8.8 still says "great" under there does it not? Same with Mass Effect. when a game is an honest to god flop like lair make fun of it all day long, but fanboys screaming flop all day long has just gotten old.

Well, let's be honest: Super Smash Bros. IS an AA franchise on GameSpot. Both previous games scored AA. Unless given good reason, why would that change? When people hype games, they're not giving their opinion, they're trying to predict other people's opinions. They might personally score the game AAA, but they would also be aware that game reviewers have different preferences and would compensate for that. A 40/40 from Famitsu is a good reason to change hype, though.

Honestly I've never played it. I've thought about buying it a few times but I don't really know what it is and what is special about it.
Blue Dragon is the first title that pops into mind which was reviewed by them as a 36/40 if i recall. It may have been 34...not positive. But it was definitely one of the two. I do think they have overrated quite a few titles in the past.
In all seriousness, just wait for the GS review. It's ok to get excited but don't go spouting off stuff about reliability in terms of reviews. Keep in mind which site you are at.

It packs a lot of gameplay into a tiny package. The premise might seem stupidly simple, but a lot of attention's been put into making the dogs react realistically. Even the slight unresponsiveness of the voice commands adds to the realism, because real dogs are not that responsive.

I'm highlighting predict here, because that's the problem. They're making predictions of other people's opinions. But that isn't what hype means at all, is it?
When I get excited for a game, I'm not thinking, "Wow, I can't wait for Gamespot to give this game an AAA score!" I'm thinking that the game is going to be an AAA quality game. Hype is for games, not for scores. So why should the level someone hypes a game have anything to do with the score they believe it will get, even if that prediction has no relation to their beliefs about the game?
It goes back to the flop system, because flops are determined by other people's opinions, and hype is determined by our opinions. But when people intentionally hype a game lower than what they actually feel just to avoid a flop, it's gaming the system, and it makes those official hype threads ring hollow.
As you say, "When people hype games, they're not giving their opinion." What I'm arguing is that they should be. Otherwise, the hype threads aren't serving their purpose.

Being that i own it and have played about 3/4 through, i seriously disagree. Just my opinion though. It's about a 7.5 - 8 IMO. It's ironic just how fitting your comment is in terms of timing though considering just how bashed Blue Dragon was when the score of it surfaced on Gamespot.

It was scored 6, and you say 7.5-8, I consider that being underrated, under-scored whatever. I say 8 was the right score for it.
Laughingman42, you should hype it AAA, everyone should. It deserves to be, its rightly so. Who cares what they scream, if it scores low, they laugh; if high, overrated. That doesn't equate to a 36/40 though. That would still make famitsu having overrated it by 10%.

I gave SSBM a 10. What do you think I think it's actually going to get?
Because I personally think AAA (9) fits the current game by how its looks right now and past incentives. I personally think 9 is a reasonable score for me and a fair one at that as score in general. I am saying we shouldn't be worried how previous hypes wents, they all were great titles and wasn't that far off being its hype. I think we shouldn't play safe but actually go what we believe the score to be in the mix of personally and rightly fairness. I probably mark it 9.5-10 as my personal score for the game, but as score score, it be 9 (AAA). That sounds right for hype and possible score. We say its should be hyped AAA but should be safe about it. Shouldn't we use instrictive sense of hype and not safe cover shield one? Get what I mean?
That doesn't equate to a 36/40 though. That would still make famitsu having overrated it by 10%.

Well, to you maybe. A title being 10% overrated can mean the difference between AA and AAA though so it's a fairly large gap to me. I just think Famitsu overrates certain titles (especially heavily japanese market titles). I haven't played SSBB (obviously) so i can't really comment as to whether or not it's overrated. I was just simply showing that Famitsu has had some bogus reviews in the past and in no way is Famitsu more credible than Gamespot. I mean, we are at Gamespot afterall. I'm about 99% certain that SSBB will score AAA at GS so don't get me wrong, i hope it does well. It just bothers me when Blue Dragon was bashed so much due to GS's score yet scored well at Famitsu but was still considered a flop. Yet, here we are again looking at Famitsu and people might as well be calling SSBB the best game ever based on the comments here. Hypocrisy bothers me in short.

I am just basing it off of what I seen of the game, and how the previous installment was score even better than the first and was near AAA, and this being much more expanded game with alot of content and additions to the game, its feels like very good change of AAA and that what drives my AAA hype for it. But one thing with the Blue Dragon, eventhou it may rated it higher and liked by them a slight more, it shows it was a good game bytheir score and by our obvious scores for it, and less of GS's score.

True. It definitely wasn't a 6.0 game. I don't personally think it was a 9.0 game either. But, yea, i know what you mean. I hope SSBB is worthy of AAA at GS. Seeing as it has more content i wouldn't be surprised if it scored a 9.5. It's almost a shoein for AAA at this point IMO.
The SSBB Famitsu review...
This time, single-player is also big. Adventure mode is pretty lengthy and enjoyable and the story's presentation is great. Thanks to the "Final Smash" moves with surprising shows of strength, unforeseen abilities arise. Options for control, sound, and so on are perfect and also deserve a hats-off.
The new "Final Smash" moves with brilliant effects that can be used by any character are refreshingly fun, right up there with the rest of the battles. I'm glad the single-player mode is also bountiful. "Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary" keeps such a good tempo of movies and action that one easily forgets the time while playing. Awesome!
Appealing production and features. Also, the movements of the characters are dynamic yet subtle. The brilliant actions of the "Final Smash" moves are a must-see. There are tons of stages, and the single-player mode is perfect. Not only is there a stage editor, but detailed statistics from the game are presented. Nice.
The movements of the assembled all-stars are highly-polished, single-player is perfect and easy to get into, and the challenge of collecting herein is more than enough. With outstanding art direction, this game really lets you feel the power of motion. There are new things to discover with each play, with both joy and sorrow to be savored in battle.Cheesemeister

It's got tons of dynaic stages. It's got a stage editor. It's got saveable preferences. It's got ease of preference transfer. It's got a community builder. It's got simple game play. It's got advanced tactics. It's got customized rules. It's got a story mode. It's got the regular beat everyone mode. It's got the specific challenges.
