But you don't own them. You can't later in years play it once it leaves gamepass. I play my old games all the time.

That is the thing about options. If you want to buy the game to play later or "forever" you have the option. For folks who don't return to older games or one and done games, the option to play at a lower cost is there through these services and is more cost effective.

MS 1st party Game Pass games are forever and only the 3rd party additions leave but lots of them actually come back again later anyway.

A healthy Sony Playstation is good for the industry. A healthy Microsoft monopoly is bad for the industry. Look at all the acquisitions and closures initiated by Phil and the other criminals. I think the biggest issue is "Day One". If it's impacting software sales, make it so new releases come out to Gamepass likke 8-12 weeks after release.

The problem with Gamepass was the quality of 1st party games which is starting to pick up.
