I've got a closed beta code but i haven't used it :P not really interested in home, but does this mean i'll have to update the FW and after the update i will have home? without using the code? Al3x_n90I guess so.
Cool, I'm enjoying Home, but there is little to do on your own. When you have friends, family, and you make new friends (though Home) then the experience is awesome fun. They really seem to be innovating with integration in games, events with real world prizes, and different spaces each having cool mini-games. The thing that I like the most is rewards for trophies :D. Bout time someone got it right!
Planned features in development:
-Cross game invites
-Extended profiles
-Bigger clubs (SW club FTW :P)
-3D trophy room
They'd better increase the amount of pool tables and bowling alleys.BZSINNot only that, but more chess tables and add checkers lol. And put them in the central square.
[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="thegoldenpoo"] with you all the way brother. why has sony done something so unneccessary? surely they could have put the resources into making a game insted of a second life rippoff with none of its good points. I guarentee thaty most of you ps3 owners will get tired of this in 2 mins. skrat_01The thing about it is it's not a Second Life rip-off. Sure there are identical aspects. Home is a social network (like a 3D customizable forum), that affects and involves your games in many ways. It's a lot of fun with friends and family especially. Think about it, would you have fun on these forums if you didn't interact with other people? I doubt it. Home is a great investment that extends the feature-set and services of PSN. Plus the ads generate revenue for Sony, which can keep it all free and efficiently persistent.Home lacks what Second Life is built upon. User Generated Content. Too me Home is an elaborate 3D space, which is a simple facade for an interactive chatroom. Problem is Home lacks no 'end' or 'objective'. its just a space. People are eventually going to find it easier sticking to things like friends lists, chat rooms, or socialising while gaming than wandering around a virtual space. Hence why people play MMOs, for both the social expierence, and the traits that come with it being a game. Another issue is that home is in your console... that is marketed towards gamers.... Sure on a PC platform, where social networking is extremely popular with.... normal people, this might take off..... however on the PS3 you are dealing with gamers... who want to play games - and turn on their consoles to do so..... The point of it having no "end" is valid as Home is not a game, so it doesn't need one. But it's persistent qualities, user interaction/customization, and social aspect is what will keep it alive. It's more than just walking around and talking. Home is revolved around gaming and affects the games you play and will play. Trophy rewards, trophy unlocking, game-launching, contests with real world/virtual prizes, real world specific events (i.e. TGS, GDC), dev parties, game spaces, and mini games etc. are all there. Couple that with cross-game invites and trophy rooms on the horizon.
I definitely see your point about user generated content (as I agree), it always extends the life and value of products. They're taking baby steps in that direction though (design your own t-shirts for sale) so hopefully they capitalize on that front.
The great thing about Home is it's its an evolving world and Sony is really invested into the community. We bought these systems to play games. But if there are services available that extend or affect my gaming experience than I'm all for it (especially if its free). The vast majority of participants in the beta are a testament to that outlook (lol I even play with a girl on Gears who wants to get a PS3 in large part of Home). I guess you can't please every consumer, but I for one am pleased with the prospect of Home. It's not perfect, and won't be for everyone, but it's definitely not totally unnecessary.
Don't get your hopes up I was in Beta and it's nothing great at all.
There is your "pad", Plaza, Mall, Movie Theater and Bowling Ally... That's it.
So many blabbering people on there as well. But thankfully you can mute them all. There is also not enough lanes in the bowling ally, nor pool tables and arcade machines. It's a joke really. You have to wait till other people are done which can be up to a half hour. Even then you are not guaranteed a spot in the next game.
Home needs more games. Because there is nothing else to do except run around and watch game trailers. Decorating is a pain because it doesn't let you zoom out enough. Then on top of it you can only have a small number of items in 1 area.
Plus the fact that people take forever to load. All you will see in a heavy area is clear water people standing around for a long time till they load.

They also need darts and card games.

Seriously? I may have to wait to play a game? Kinda runs counter to the immediacy of being online.

Yep, once a game area is full or has a game started you have to wait till the game is over. You have people standing there some times spaming to get in.
Plus people that are in the bowling ally are usually there all the time and are pro's at the games. I seen a guy get all strikes... WTF! Yeah, I don't wanna play with people that take the games so serious. It's hard to find a fun and fair game. When you do, it's great.
ugh the d/l for this is going to take forever i can see it.JetB1ackNewYear
You have to down load it then install it... Reserves like 3.7 GB for itself. Then as you run around and go to other places it takes 25-30 MB per new area you load.
So your not done after the first down load.

Yeah, but it takes like a minute at the most to download an area. Its good they set it up like that, so you're not forced with additional game/promo spaces you have no interest in.[QUOTE="Episode_Eve"][QUOTE="thegoldenpoo"] with you all the way brother. why has sony done something so unneccessary? surely they could have put the resources into making a game insted of a second life rippoff with none of its good points. You hit the nail on the head. Well said! :)
Right now, Home is extremely lame & boring. I've been in the Beta for about a month now and I've spent maybe 1.5hrs in Home. There really is no point in Home unless you just want to talk to people, which is not as cool as it sounds. All the mini-games are boring. You sometimes have to wait to play these mini-games.
But it's expected that cows will claim Home is "amazing " and "innovating" because that's the Sony talking point.

Another great post! :)
I have the same opinion of Home. It is a joke. I was actually surprised how little there is to do in Home.
It's very, very easy to see why Sony delayed Home for so long.

Not surprising to hear this coming from you. You ever think about switching it up?So why are the cow the only ones in this thread actually excited? Still sitting around wishing that somehow PSN is better...AlphaGamer469I'm excited :(. But I like socializing. Especially with people who have a common interest as I do - gaming. The potential is really there. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was XBOX Live. I'm very impressed with the strides Sony has taken these last 2 years (from scratch mind you).
