I never stated it was a fact that Home = Waste of Time & Effort.

I clearly said IMO Home is a waste of time & effort because I found it boring. And Home will remain so as long it stays just a 3D chat room.

Also, I find it funny it's still being referred to as a "BETA" when everyone has access to it. I guess Sony just wants to keep everyone's expectations low. Why even call it a "BETA" when everyone has access to it?

LosDaddie

1.) Your opinion that it's a waste of dev time. Cool. I never assumed you meant it as "fact". What I said is very reasonable to prove why it may not be fair to call something a "waste dev time and effort" 2.) COD4 had a playable beta before it came out. So did WAW. So did other games. This is nothing new. Do you even know what a Beta is?

The question is: Do you know what a BETA is?

Betas are meant to test software before the final product is available to everyone. Starting tomorrow, Home will be available to everyone with a PS3. So how is it still a Beta?

Those Cod4 and CoD WaW betas were not the final product. Your analogy is wrong.

Yes I do. And Home is in Beta form.

Well here's my conspiracy theory. Sony set a high expectation by talking up all these features for Home. They could not deliver on all features. So they backtrack on those expectations by releasing as an "open beta".VoodooHak

I think you hit the nail on the head. And basically repeated what I said earlier by Sony wanting to lower expectations by still calling it a "Beta".

As we can see, by Sony doing so, PS3-defenders are already making excuses for Home

So, in other words, HOME is just a distraaction for people 'just waiting' for anything useful to do with a PS3.....PASS.

TREAL_Since

That's so wrong. The age old myth of "just wait" should be dead. Why do people think PS3 has no games? Please, I'm dying to know :).

Cause hes a lem and they seem to think PS3 owners have no games. So all he does is say Just wait and bad online. Hes basicly a broken record. Side not only thing I find missing in PSN that 360 has is instantly joining a game, private chat and now party chat. Besides that XBL doesint seem that different to me.

It's AN excuse. Not excuseS. And it's not even an exuse, it's a legit reason.

Psssst... I'll let you in on a little secret... PSN is basically the same as XBL. They have almost no differences. Lemmings just say they are completely different to bash cows in someway. Or to make themselves feel better.

Yeah. And those features are reported by Sony to be in development now.

I'm not a PS3-defender lol. I'm just speaking facts and my subjective take on Home.

I've been in the Home beta for awhile now and there's a myth that the PSN has the most mature community but Home just debunks that myth straight up. Home has to be the most flat out racist and immature online community I've witnessed. If you ever wondered where's all the ignorant people at on PSN, well they're all in Home.

People complained about people playing loud music and constantly talking on headsets over XBL, well you better get use to it because Home invites that. I can guarantee you if you make a dark skin Avatar or a female Avatar you will most likely encounter people that will call you derogatory names. If you make a female Avatar or see a female Avatar you will witness people asking "are you really a girl?". I laugh and shake my head everytime I witness that.

Home is a virtual space home for ads. I do like how they show ads through the screens but I expect more ad posters posted all over the place and maybe it'll even get into your own Home apartment. And yes you have to wait your turn to bowl, play pool, play the mini arcades, and chess. If you couldn't get in those in the beta, just imagine when there's more people in Home. Also sure they could add more lanes and arcades and such, but it took them this long just to get those, imagine how long it would take to add more of those.

I don't have any music saved on my HDD but I'm hoping you could stream your own music instead of listening to Home's music. I do like how there's a jukebox in the courtyard but I hope they would be a jukebox in the bowling alley and even in the mall or they will let you stream your own music.

Anyway I do like messing around, participating in dance lines and just acting silly, but I think that's what Home is going to be, a place just to mess around. Some people say, well Home is optional you don't have go on it. Well that's true, but if more people rather just pop in a game and play instead of being distracted in Home, I think Home is just a waste of time and HDD space.

I just don't see how Home will make PSN better when Home is optional. Well these are my impressions of Home. I'll go on it later on and see all the new people on it and most of them will probably just be dancing their time away lol.

So, in other words, HOME is just a distraaction for people 'just waiting' for anything useful to do with a PS3.....PASS.

funny that you state this, but missed the fact that the ps3 had a better software exclusive this year. So how's ps3 owners "still waiting" on something to do with their ps3?

see, you assume everyone who owns a PS3 and is a dedicated gamer automatically ran out to buy MGS4. I hated the other 3, thought I might like this one til played my friends copy and remembered.

these haters are too funny...

why hate on Home?.. it's free.. it's optional.. honestly, that's "'nuff said".. but beyond that, you've got the same people spending time customizing avatars on NXE and chatting it up on Gamespot saying that it's somehow "lame" to do relatively the exact same thing within the Home..

and for the people who claim that they'd "rather play games".. please.. noone plays video games 24 hours a day.. and judging from some of your post counts, that includes you.. when you not playing games, Home is a 3D forum used to discuss games and interact with other gamers via mini-games, community spaces, private spaces, games-specific spaces, and etc.. someone with a 13,672 post count here on these forums cant sit here and tell me that they dont have an interest in chatting and interacting with other gamers and they cant tell me that they play games 24/7..

bottomline? it's a free and optional way to interact with others in the PSN community during your freetime when you're not actually playing a video game.. and it's also a way for Sony to generate revenue to further finance and improve PSN as a whole.. quit trying to make it out to be anything other than that.. it's not a "video game" so quit calling it that.. and it's not something that you're meant to be doing all day.. typically, you shouldnt spend any more time within Home than you spend on internet gaming forums.. so please stop the blind fanboyism...

I mean.. really... It's like a get-out-of-jail-free card. Missing features? It's in beta. Bugs? It's in beta. Things that weren't really well thought out? Beta. Features that turn out to be useless or unpopular? Beta.

Seriously. It's just PR double-speak for damage control. But hey... let's give it a shot first. In the very least it could be an interesting diversion for a while. I honestly hope they can grow its features.

well, maybe they simply just didnt want to jump directly from a closed beta of 100,000 people and launch directly to over 10 million people all in one day.. how about we just use a little logic here instead of wild assumptions..

it seems like a natural progression to me.. step one, closed beta.. step two, open beta via PSN Store download (i assume).. step three, the finished product is presented to the entire PS3 community via firmware update or etc.. keep in mind this isnt a game that people are going to be spending $60 in a store to buy and play.. in that case, going from closed beta straight to the public would make sense.. but this is instead a huge and ambitious undertaking that supposed to integrate a huge 3D world for use by each and every PSN user.. we're not talking about a server load of a few hundred thousand.. we're talking about millions of people using these servers.. and ofcourse, this presents obvious problems.. honeslty, this only in terms of overall potential, but i'm sure you can understand why they're trying to slowly ramp up the player participation in a cautious manner.. and an open BETA is the next logical step before the final product is packaged in the core PS3 software...

"damge control"?.. that's a stretch.. "erroring on the side of caution" is probably a better description...

its open beta. if you guys are not familiar with MMORPGs they always come out with Close Beta, then Open beta which is open to the big public, the difference between final and open beta, is that open beta is there to fix the bugs not addressed during closed beta. wait why am i explaining myself to people who don't give a 'Homes' arse.

I totally understand. MS is guilty of this as well. Just before NXE launched, they let in every beta applicant supposedly to lessen the load before launch proper. I find it hard to swallow when they don't just call it what it is. I would appreciate, after how many years of smoke and mirrors, that Sony become a little more forthright when setting end-user expectations.

Software launches are my bread n butter, so I can spot PR spin when I see it. I'm willing to bet that you don't have to be a project manager to see this one.

MS launch of NXE met with a few snags. Let's hope that the Home launch goes at least as smoothely.

I think that enough of the PS3 user base is mature enough that they can handle if they just say....

"Hey, we'll launch this thing. It's a big deal so there may be some hiccups. We'll also be load testing our servers and squashing major bugs as they appear once the software's out in the wild. Please bear with us. Your use of the system and your contstructive feedback will help us make Home the best experience as possible."

I'd like to think my trust in PS3 users' maturity isn't misplaced.

Leave it up to Sony and cows to overhype something that's just a total distraction to gaming in general. Then again, the Playstation brand is the masters of that in general...
