Depends on the resolution, and what hardward/software you already own. Anywhere from $400-$1200.i5750at4GhzWell I have old computers that are not exactly gaming machines.... for my basic computer work I actually use a Macbook since my last PC crapped out on viruses. If I wanna play a game I use someone else's computer. Let's actually lower it to Medium-High and say I'm going for the bare minimum, building one from scratch, what would you guess? Don't need a monitor though, already have a really nice one so don't need to take that into account

[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]mine can run it modded high with 30fps on 720poldkingallantHow much was yours? 1280x720 is really low for PC gaming... You can get that with low-end(by todays standards) graphics cards and a moderate processor.
If I can actually build a PC for $450 that can run Crysis at 720p (console gamer my whole life, only low settings stuff on PC, so I'm not picky about resolutions) and 30 FPS now, I'm gonna wait like a year or two and then I'll pretty much definitely get one. If I give it a year or two before building a rig how much do you think the price would go down? Could I build the same machine for like $400 or so?depends, DIY? US?
roughly $450 for 720p 30fps on high

weird, my 4850 struggles to do that.....non modded though. it definately dips below 30 quite a bit. still playable...but choppy.

pc prices are weird, the point your at is basically the point of dimishing returns. you really cant go lower.
what i mean is a hd4670 is around $50, well so is a hd4650 and a hd4550 and so on. and after that the next best card is roughly $70 to $80.
really for a first investment youre best with a $600 budget that way you have enough to play with. youll be running crysis on veryhigh 720p or high at a higher resolution.

The difference is most monitors aren't 720p native resolution, and any res other than default on most monitors looks pretty bad.
at minimun get:
E8400. (or a core 2 quad would be better)
at least 3 GB ram (800 MHz is fine)
4850, preferrably better. maybe 4890.
I can run Crysis in very high with 16xAAq at 1680x1050 and get around 30fps. If I lower the AA to 2x or 4x I´ll get around 40/45fps.
Considering that I gave 1200 euros(roughly 1500 usd) for this system(mouse, keyboard and sound system not included),I would say that for you to get one that could run it in high in the near future you would only have to pay around 500 euros(around 630usd).Probably less if you go with cheaper parts, although I wouldn´t advise you to do such a thing.

Come to think of it I'd actually be playing the games on my TV for the most part, which is 720p native.I'm not looking to switch to PC gaming and leave console gaming, way too much on consoles interest me, particularly my old favorite Nintendo franchises and the new IPs that come out on PS3. Well hell I have the keyboard, speakers, and mouse, hook me up without. What parts? You could get an entire new computer that could run Crysis on high (And then some) minus the monitor, but including keyboard/speakers/mouse for $472.91.

The 4850 will run Crysis on High (DX10), 1680x1050 at a 30FPS avg or so.

eek, I don't know about that. I stick to 1280x720 and barely get that.
Assuming the background is supposed to be blurred, yes. Especially considering the distance I'd be playing from.that image quality good enough for ya?

Then either something is wrong with your PC or you need to upgrade elsewhere. I have a 4850 (and it's the old, ****ty 512MB model), a cheap Athlon 64 X2 7750 and 4GB RAM and I average about 30fps @ 1680x1050 on high (no AA), and that's despite the fact Crysis and my PC don't play nice with eachother.

Oh yeah, you can build for under $600 quite easily, especially if you're re-using parts.
As for re-using, I would only do it with parts such as the case and DVD drive, as more important components, such as motherboard, RAM, CPU etc may not be compatible with newer parts.

I found all those parts, adds up to $470, and without the case $370, considering I can reuse an old case (will it matter much?). If I can build a PC for that price I may have one at my disposal before the end of summer.[QUOTE="oldkingallant"][QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]
CPU: Core 2 Duo e4600 @ 3.16ghz
RAM:4GB OCZ Fatal1ty DDR2-800 RAM @5-4-4-15
Graphics card: Gigabyte Radeon 3870
Case: Antec Performance one P160W
you can get a better pc for the same price or less now adays if you shop around, meybe with the exception of the ram it is alot more expensive than it used to be.

dont just look up the same parts, try this build
barebone kit-http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5713845&CatId=333
vid card-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161319
then just throw in an extra stick of ram for $50 and you got something complete under $450 that will make mine look wimpy if you oc the cpu.
At 720p that card would definitely own hardThe cheapest good gaming PC I could make was roughly 493USD before tax.
It can play Crysis at max settings at 1680x1050 res and it can also play Metro on near max settings.
It can play just about every game on max settings.
If you already have windows 7 knock off 100 USD.
Also you can purchase windows 7 at a college or university for 30 USD so knock off 70 USD if you can do that.
This is a full build so it could be cheaper if you already have spare parts.
