My brother and I decided to play through Halo 1 and 2 again coopertively to get our groove and the concept of the storyline back in light of the future release (not too long now) of Halo 3. Besides, it was about time we did something together on a videogame as my attention up till about 2 months ago was on Resistance: Fall of Man and his was still on Kingdom Hearts 2. I  finished Resistance 100% both online and offline. I got all the skill points, intel, online badges and medals and beat the game on Superhuman.

Now, playing Halo again, I have realized just how bland and obvious of a rip-off Resistance: Fall of Man is. Let's list the copies:

1) Nathan Hale vs Master Chief -  both are that one man, suicidal army that is able to single handedly disrupt the plan's of an alien race. Both spit out corny one liners all the time. Both have the deep, determined, angry voice you'd expect out of that bad a$$ lead character. Both are relied on almost entirely by a large army of troops losing a war against an alien race. etc....

2) Enemy design - Are you kidding me? While Halo does not have anything to match up with the Crawlers and Rollers of Resistance: Fall of Man, Halo's Hunters and Resistance's Titans look exactly the freaking same! They're both the big guy with the guns that shoot the fireballs and both try massive melee attacks. Excuse my unknowing ways, but the normal sized blue and red villains of Halo are, in more ways than one, perfect models for what the Chimeran Hybrids are built as. They may not look 100% the same, but both move, fire and attack in almost the exact same way! Enemy weaponary may not be exact in design, but they essentially fire the exact same way aside from the Auger. The Chimeran rely on the same type of plasma/laser beam and energy ball shots of the Covenant....

3) Level Design - This is where things get sick. The rip-offs here are just painfully obvious. Anyone been to the Tower in Resistance lately? Let's start with the bridges in that tower. You know, the double layered ones with one coming almost immediately where you fight the flying Angel enemy? You know, those bridges are exact copies of the bridges found in the original Halo when raiding your way to Halo's control room. Every nick in the wall, every scratch on the floor....everything! Plus, any Chimeran tower you enter in that game looks exactly like every room in Halo. Aside from topside battling, when you start going inside of the Halo, everything looks like what Insomniac designed for the inside of Chimeran tunnels....it's painfully obvious. The winter levels in Resistance once you get to London, they look exactly like the ones in Halo!

4) Vehicle Presentation - The tanks are the same. The reload time for the cannons are the same, the alternative fires of the machine guns are the same...then the old army jeep you get in Resistance is intirely comparable to the Warthog. Problem is, the jeep sucks so, so bad in comparison to Halo's infamous All Terrain Vehicle. The sounds, the design, it's all way too similar in Resistance as it is to Halo.

Just thought I'd bring this up. It's sad that the biggest launch title for the PS3 had to rip-off the biggest launch title for the original XBOX so much. The foundamental gameplay of Resistance is still incredible, but the game is still so graphically inferior and unoriginal to justify my purchase of Sony's new behemoth of a console. *sighs* I have much, much more fun playing Halo on the my 360's backward compatability when I'm not already playing Gears and Crackdown. EB Games trade-in value or sell it on Ebay....what will be the fate of my PS3 if Lair doesn't deliver?

You forgot to mention the ending, and the part when the credits end, you see a lil glimpse of the future. I belive thats copied from halo2 too.

I really didn't expect that much from Resistance. It's a launch game and I don't expect a truly standout PS3 game till later this year.

It took the 360 a year to get Gears of War and it's mainly due to the longer development time the devs had with the game. Comparing the launch titles to Gears is a very unfair comparison since Gears is far better.

So yeah, I think PS3 will get its standout title with Heavenly Sword, MGSIV or even perhaps KZ.

Well I don't know why, I played Halo for a very short time, and dare I say it?  It was one of the most painful experiences I've evere experienced no offense (I'm entitled to have an opinion, so are you but don't think your opinion's above mine).  The Halo series was just blah.  The levels weren't enspiring, the enemies seemed kinda brain dead.  I only played the beginning of 1 and 2, for about 1 hour each.  (Friends forced me since it's the only xbox games they have)  Now Resistance: Fall of Man, now that game is fun, the detail, the enemies AI, the weapons, it's in my top 10 gaming list (Even though I don't own a lot of games).  Sorry I've been a playstation fan since the mid life of the playstation 1, and now all the way up to playstation 3.

Granted, like I said, the foundamental game itself was great. But you know, for what was supposed to be a showpiece for the most technologically advanced system of all time, you'd think they could create something, oh I don't know....orginal maybe?

Creative Team: A group of individuals brought together to create and or plan for the development of a product.

Creative team doesn't have to mean that they create a freaking genre people. A creative team are the ones who create the ideas for environment, enemies, characters, storylines, etc. for a game in this here industry.

So do you get it yet. If Insomniac was inspired by Bungie's creative team, then they were inspired by what they created for Halo, hence I am calling them a rip-off. Ho, ho, ho now wasn't that funny....or maybe just brutely honest?

Both are generic shooters with great generic gameplay. There both casual games that give casuals everything they want from a shooter, mindless fun.

I mean your first impression is the description of hundred characters that are out there, also you mention that they ripped off some enmies, yea Chimeras and covenants are so the same :roll: and yea they ripped of a bridge and a tower too....

I hope you don't try to tell me now that Samus is a Master Chief rip off.

Ya, I know. Biggest mistake I made since I went to a provincial university rather than a business school to get a degree in Economics *sighs* well, at least now I have a 3.95 GPA with one semester to go at the Business school....

Oh and read the end of my post to start this thread, then you'll know what the PS3 will become for me if Lair doesn't deliver....nothing to play till September? yeah, eat me Sony...

it feels like its a pc shooter cuz its much faster . also  not all pc shooters are about jumping . cs/bf/half life .  the jumping in halo is  very slow comp to a game like ut

Ya, I know. Biggest mistake I made since I went to a provincial university rather than a business school to get a degree in Economics *sighs* well, at least now I have a 3.95 GPA with one semester to go at the Business school....

Oh and read the end of my post to start this thread, then you'll know what the PS3 will become for me if Lair doesn't deliver....nothing to play till September? yeah, eat me Sony...

I mean your first impression is the description of hundred characters that are out there, also you mention that they ripped off some enmies, yea Chimeras and covenants are so the same :roll: and yea they ripped of a bridge and a tower too....

I hope you don't try to tell me now that Samus is a Master Chief rip off.

Gamespot mentions in the video review that some of the vehicle sequences in Resistance look like they've been taken straight out of Halo.

Why I lefet the vehicles out.

Still, if I were to play a game looking on how it copies another I'm in for a lot of unoriginality,  and you think the Halo is too original? Check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_world. And if we go by when we play, I feel a lot of times that halo is a bit a rip off HL.

lol, I know, I was just making a shot at the PS3 and what is obviously a waste of a purchase at this point in time.

I never said I thought Halo was original, influential yes but not original.

Unreal is a great franchise but is way different to Halo if anything Halo is a copy of Tribes (Halo 1 is better than both though)

And i have to say that Halo is much better than Resistance :lol: I Have a PS3 and i hired Resistance for the weekend and well........id give it around a 8.4, somebody want me to post a pic to prove it?

No...just no.

There is nothing creative about humans fighting off in space against a seemingly unstoppable alien menace...it has been done before...many many times. Resistance atleast has put a unqiue spin on this used story by setting it in an alternate history during WWII and having the aliens as more like mutants, rather than completely separate species..

In video games the quintessencial hero..who exhibits superhuman feats to single handely defeat the enemy. Master Chief is in no way a unique character....just a super soldier with a dry sense of humor(Duke Nukem). Nathan Hale is more along the lines of Gordan Freeman and the Doom Marine...virtually silent for almost the entire game(he has less than 5 lines) The vehicles have been done in other games as well.

The enemies in Resistance were not "copied" from Halo, Anyone who has played an FPS before Halo would know that the concept of a main enemy type has been around since Doom. The weapons in Halo are some of the least creative peices of garbage to ever grace a AAA game. None of the weapons offer anything aside from the generic pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Rifle, laser and sword(which was a huge rip off of Star Wars but cool for that very reason) with no secondary fire. Resistance offers a far more varied choice of weapons with 2 even 3 modes of fire.

 

As for level design, the only level that looked like they were ripped from Halo was the large open map where you rode around in the Jeep...which reminded me alot like the large open maps in Halo 2. Everything else looked completely different....unless you think Halo levels look like a war torn London and Manchester Uk?
