No. I might start murdering people if it happens.NobuoMusicMaker
Oh no Jack Thompson is on my case! It was just an impulse post! I'm sorry!
With 10% of men being g a y and 5% of women being lesbian, I think it would be nice if, once in a while we see games that have homosexual themes and features. For example, GTAIV could have the option of dating boyfriends instead of just girlfriends. Or we could see a Prince of Persia game, but instead of falling in love and saving a woman, the prince could fall in love and save a man. G a y people like myself sometimes feel alienated in this regard. I understand that the majority of the world is straight, but it would be nice to see, once in a while, a game that caters to the gay crowd. It could at least be an option in the game menu or something. Does this all sound fair?NYCgamer47
Where did you get 10%? That number seems huge. I can't imagine that 10 out of every one hundred men are gay But I live in the midwest now . :P
Whether it's fair or not is irrelevant. Adopting that type of content into one's game is calling for political intervention, especially in mainstream games that already receive a lot of slack (like GTA) and would be a monumental risk to the company. It basically comes to down weighing the risk of having homosexual content versus the amount of slack they'll receive from interest groups, but if gaymers unite, then I suppose it'll happen eventually. I would definitely be in support of it as long as it is handled appropriately and that those who want to have it can while those who don't won't have to be subject to it. Like you said, an option in the menu would be a fair compromise IMO. Until then, check out Bully; it has some homosexual themes and is already available.
10 percent? im sureabusedbunny
In ancient Greece, it was 35%. Nowadays, it's about 10%, by rule of thumb. I know, it seems like it's a little more though, more like 15%. But then again, I live in NYC, lol.

I assume you are one of those type of gamers because you shouldn't care if you weren't. Anyway they made a game called Enchanted Arms which has a character you can relate to.
Mass market media (which video games fall into) are in the business to make as much money as possible. The only way for them to achieve this is by hitting as general and broad of an audience as possible. Your "community", unfortunately for you, doesn't represent large enough of a target audience to be profitable in this space. Other products do better at marketing to smaller niche audiences but with the development costs of video games these days...it just doesn't make a good business case here.
10% ? thats pretty high, too high.Taz-Bone
Trust me. I know about the statistics. The rule of thumb is that 10% of men are gay and anonymous surveys have proven that.

True enough. Homosexuality is definitely more prevalent in NYC than in most places in the States and the world, for that matter.

Te sims does this better then anyone. Then there's the mountains of JRPG"s that feature effeminate metrosexual boys as their main characters & the occasional cross-dressing (FF7) &/ or characters that change gender at differnet point sin the game (Breath of Fire 2 I *think*).
The main stream sexual prefrence will always be male and female. There are people that like animals, do you think their should be games that the main character falls in love with a sheep? Im not trying to bash your idea just saying the overall idea of a real game having a guy save a guy isnt very likely to happen, not because people are against homosexuals, but because it doesnt make for a good story for a guy to save a guy or whatever.
Oh just remembered, Fable 2 will have homosexual gameplay to it, you can get a guy to fall in love with a guy and a girl with a girl so theres you a game right there.

I'll agree that a guy saving a guy isn't as interesting of a story as a gay saving a woman. But all I'm saying is that homosexuality should make an occasional appearance in games, once in a while, including rated E games. There is nothing obscene about homosexuality.

Well if its rated E how will you know they are gay :P
Anyway there are a few games like Fable 2 that will let you have relations with the same sex.

Ok what makes you think people who are not gay wants to see that. I know if I had a son I would not want him to be expose to that type of stuff. I have nothing agaisnt g a y people, but I believe their decision is wrong and will not support it. Playing encharted arms was a little uncomfortable for me because I didn't like what I was seeing. Thankfully the g a y character did not play an intergral part in the game.

While im in agreement that there should not be ANY kind of sexual reference (be it hetero or homo in an E rated game, saying this seems a bit odd.
Are you pro war and senseless violence? No. But a good deal of your games probably revolve around those themes even if you dont support war and violence. WHy is it any different for a game with homosexual themes? You can still enjoy a violent or homosexual game and not be a violent or homosexual person.
it says its not allowed in the bibleChris-Hansen
As much as I hate to get into these arguements, not everyone is christian.
yes. lets alienate the 90% straight population so we can cater to the 10% gaysdarrowby88
Because making a black protagonist means you alienate every non-black person? Or with Fable's ability to marry and sleep with a guy, 100% of its customers were, homosexual, right?

Devils Advocate Man would respond: "And not everyone is g a y"
There is homosexual themes in gaming today. Does it play front and center as the primary drive and motivation in the story, plot and gameplay? No. Based on the TCs initial intro to this discussion I think there are games that have these elements he is looking for.
Also, E games shouldnt have ANY sexual theme. Be it hetero or homo sex is a topic for parents to introduce to their children (or children to ask their parents) - I personally don't feel anyones sexual agenda or preference should play center stage in games that my children should play. The kids these days have enough confusing issues to deal with without this.

Dude,
Just because you're gay,
Dosen't mean 10% of all men are also.

even if you don't choose to be that way, you still choose to live that way. There's a choice in everything that we do. Whether or not people agree with it is a whole nother story. I don't care one way or the other, but to say that you don't choose to live a certain way is a pile.
if you are allowed to have g a y videogames then i want ones with naked chicks flying everywhere petting me and catering to my every need, then we have a deal.
If u r Christian and hate homos;u should be angry at God; being gay isn't a choice... God made them that way and they can't help being the way they are...Spamwellyou can say the same about rapists, or murderers or child molesters, but i dont believe god made em that way, he gave us free choice but he didnt make murderers.
