GameCube horror classic Eternal Darkness gets a spiritual successor in Shadow of the Eternals.

The campaign for Shadow of the Eternals will launch on Monday May 6th, seeking a $1,500,000 to develop the first part of a 12-episode series.

Featuring an ensemble cast of heroes and villains, Shadow of the Eternals will span over 2500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States. Players will question the perception of reality as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and sanity events to progress through the adventure.

Shadow of the Eternals will take players on a memorable journey throughout time; weaving historical fact with disturbing fiction to create an experience unlike any other.

The game will run on CryEngine 3.

The crowdfunding campaing has launched.

As the game is planned for WiiU as well, maybe they made/will make some sort of agreement with nintendo.

Maybe SK was supposedly working on Eternal Darkness 2 before they went under so they might of took what they were working on and just changed it a little. Or else Nintendo got someone else to finish ED2.

Why does everyone have "beef" with Denis Dyack? :P

Because he used tax payers money to fund a game he was working on but it turns out he wasn't getting anywhere with it.

That is basically what I know and I don't think I have all the details somebody else could probably fill in more of what I posted.

Oh. Ok. But  Denis Dyack is not the one who's calling the shots in this project. He´s just a chief creative officer.

Right but I was just saying that ED was awesome and a true sequel exclusive to the Wii U would be a major reason to buy the console and the console sorely need very good reasons for being on the market at this time.

Insanity meter isn't trademarked by nintendo. The thing was and IS present in all the Cthulhu RPGs, long time before the Eternal Darkness game.

How was it implemented because Nintendo owns only one type of Sanity Meter; If the other developers could find a different way of implementing it to get a similar result then they can still use the insanity meter.

Nintendo also has the patent of the effects of that meter it all depends on how the developer implements it so it wouldn't be copyright infringement.

The sanity system from Eternal Darkness is just a toned down version of the Cthulhu rpg with some meta effects added in-between (like the delete save thing, or the premature end).

Why would they put this on the WiiU? Seems like a waste of development money to start with. I would keep it on just the PC first and see if it gains any traction before porting.

There's no issue then. Developers will have no issues with Nintendo on the matter, as long as they don't make it identical.

I don't think the game's going to be really good though if they don't have the silly effects. Eternal Darkness was kind of unique because it presented this stuff in such a manner, and not because of the "horror' element *cough*.

If WiiU gamers put their money into the pot as well, then I don´t see any problem in this. And they should because WiiU doesn´t have many games.

They want to get attention from Nintendo, so that they get further funding or game contracts from the looks of this.

I don´t think so. They just want to reach their goal making the game availabe for a wider audience.

Also Silicon Knights said they were working on ED2 before they shutdown so maybe they want to save what they were working on unless Nintendo decided to continue working on the sequel with a different team.

Nintendo doesn´t look like doing much recently. They just sit there and wait until WiiU sells enough copies to start doing something. :P

This is NOT good if nintendo is not supporting this. In fact seems like the game does not even have a publisher yet. You would think with Nintendo owning the rights to the old game they would make a new one.

This isn't Eternal Darkness 2; Nintendo still owns the IP.

Eternal Darkness was awesome. And so was the twin snakes.

Ttsbox.jpg

But look what turned out when they didn't work for Nintendo or Kojima. Their only game this gen was awful, it was a complete disaster. :(

Can they recreate what made Eternal Darkness so great and unique ?

I'll be getting it for the PC. This is exactly the type of game Nintendo should work on making exclusive imo.

I don't give a sh*t about Bayonetta 2, but it's things like this which may have promted me to rethink my ideas on the Wii U.

It is the spiritual successor to a Nintendo IP and they want to use what they where working on when Silicon Knights went under so they moved everything to Precurser Games.
