Now that my beautiful title has easily baited you into the thread, lets talk about Sony's 3D audio, the second most overhyped new feature of the system. Now, is it just me or is there significantly less clarity in sound when using their 3D sound? For the last month, i have thoroughly tried all the 5 profiles that are available for their 3D sound, and the one that sounds the cleanest is the default. Thing is, when you compare the default profile to 3D completely turned off, and simply using their stereo sound, it is so much much cleaner. The sound is not muffled anymore and its much easier to hear footsteps and the direction they're coming from.
At first, i was only able to get their 3D sound through the controller audio jack, which is obviously crap (even tho, this is how Sony intended you to experience their 3D sound because through HDMI its not even supported 🤣), so i didn't want to be too judgemental, but now that i am getting it through my amp/dac, there's no excuse for it to be this shitty. And i am not testing this on a $50-100 trashy gaming headset from Walmart either. I tested it with the Origen+ dac/amp and three different pair of headphones. The Sennheirser HD598, Sennheiser HD599 and the Sennheirser 58X Jubilee. All three being very popular for gaming for their sound stage and imaging, so its not a matter of them being poor sounding pair of cans.
I have never had Dolby Atmos, nor tried any games with it, but on their site, they have a demo, and it sounds a shitton better than anything 3D sound related on the PS5.
I have searched online to see what people think of the tempest engine, and i've fund a lot of people bitchin' about the sound being poor on resetera. But we all know that site is SJW heavy, so if i agree with what they're saying, does that make me an SJW? This is very upsetting, guys.
TLDR: Tempest engine is shyte.
