I think they have alot even though the problem has been minimized as of late. It left a bad precedent for consumers what do you think?

Who knows?

My guess? Not much.

Did it affect a potential sale to me? Yeah.

Why would you buy something that has such a high rate of failure?

Failure is not accepted in my home!

ALOT.

THe first half sales would have been alot better and Microsoft would not have missed its initial targets for the first half of 07

And with all the hype Halo 3 had it could have honestly sold more, but once again the RROD is going to hurt it.

Even with exciting new Ips like Mass Effect and Bioshock which are either exclusive or ar worst exclusive to PC/360 were big boosters for the 360 against the PS3. But the RROD crushed any chance for the 360 to make a big jump.

Madden 08 was a huge improvement and a good back to form for EA. But RROD cost 360 alot of casuals IMO on that end(although it did sell well)

Assassins Creed was popular game this year and a great brand new IP, sold well. But im sure the RROD might have cost the 360 some.

COD 4 being a GOTY esque game this year(overrated a little but whatever) could have sold more 360s than it did.

All in all, and the price drop. I think the RROD might have honestly cost Microsoft a good amount of sales. If i was gonna guess id say 3-5 million more 360s could have been sold.

RROD is the main reason I am not getting a 360. That and the fact it only has two games I would want.

Didnt effect it much at all, especially considering the Xbox 360 is selling like hotcakes and is pounding the PS3 in sales each and every day.

It has hurt the 360, but since the average consumer is oblivious to the RROD epidemic the sales haven't been harmed terribly. Rather, the system that comes after the X360 is going to feel the impact of the RROD debacle. I know I'm sure as hell not buying the next console MS puts out until at least two years after launch when I can be reasonably assured that my system isn't liable to spontaneously die.

Last time I checked the Xbox 360 console is 10 million units ahead in sales.....

I think you should join the real world with the rest of us and understand that the Xbox 360 is miles ahead, regardless of whether it released 1 year early.

There is no catching up for the PS3 now, the Xbox 360 would literally have to stop selling for that to happen.

If 100% of them were BREAKING i'd say it would be hurting it alot. Considering the defective rate is more around 30% and not all of them are getting the RROD I'd say it hasn't hurt it much (especially looking at the sales).

Speedy speaks some truth, although sales could have been better for the 360. No one will pay 350 for a system that has potential to fail. With a price cut this year and the improvements made to the system, i think it will have a renewed fervor in the marketplace.

Last I checked, the 360 had been out a year longer also. I am going by the facts, not some dream world. Break it down by total days each console has been out. Now what was that about the 360 selling better. That's what I thought. Each and everyday the PS3 sales better than the 360. Sure there are more total 360s sold, but that's because the 360 was out a whole year ahead of the PS3. You logic fails. It's easy math. Total consoles sold divided by total number of days that console has been out.

Easier math would be 17.7 shipped versus 10.4 shipped. Arguing over who is selling better at any given moment is pointless. Cumulative will matter most in the end.

Thats only if PS3 sales stay at the same rate. Sorry, but thats not going to happen. PS3 sales are going to keep improving because of a few things. The price drops. The blu ray winning the next gen format war, and the big hitters that are coming this year. You keep failing to realize the 360 has a year head start. So anybody with a lick of sense would be comparing the PS3 sales to the first year sales of the 360. So enjoy your head start while you have it.

The head start was everything. all the exclusives Sony enjoyed last gen are mostly multiplat now. to assume that the 360 will slow down in sales is contradictory to the point of getting to a mass market price. Sony is further from that point.

Calm downladies. Every console is fine (No pun intended). Until you make a profit from sales (in other words you're a stockholder) it's utterly pointless to argue unless you have something to prove. ;)

Oh stop it. The PS3 sold better last year than the 360. And thats with a slow start because of a high starting price AND the same year Halo 3 came out. Yet the PS3 sold better. The 360 has no big hitting like that coming this year and the PS3 price has dropped. This is really simple for me to understand. I really don't see why it is so hard for some to get it, but I guess some of us pick up on things faster than others. Oh well.

Who says the PS3 is going to keep selling the way it is? The main reason the Xbox 360 sales have slowed down is because nearly everybody has one, the same thing will happen to the PS3.

If 360 didn't have so many RRoD problems, then it could possibly be ahead of Wii,but its the opposite at this point in time.

they shipped better...... yes. To think that the PS3 will do any better this year is directly proportional to it's price. same with the 360. when they get Wii level or lower then they will be mass market. i don't care how many games either one has until they get to that point, no major sales will happen.

Correction, if the 360 sold even half as well in Japan as the Wii does it would be ahead of the Wii. Of course we all know that isn't going to happen though. ;)

I think this problem is relatively small in reagrds to microsofts overall sales. I personally believe that if the RRoD wasn't an issue MS would've sold aroung 100,000 more consoles last year. That is a lot of consoles but compared to 18 mil overall it is nothing.

actually the 360 mite stop selling before the ps3, isnt the ps3 ment to stay on the market and be in develepment for many years to come, the "720" might come out in like 3 -4 years. and please mate stop talking about sales, your the same guy taht said the 360 outsold the ps3 last year and used NPD sales to prove that point. :|

I bought a 360 but sold it a week later because it was making funny noises and putting out alot of heat. I feared the RROd every time I turned it on. I just bought a PS3 a week ago and couldn't be happier.

The RROD is the only reason the PS3 isn't guaranteed to be in a distant 3rd place. The reasons are two fold. I think there are many who would have a 360 right now if it wasn't for the RROD, and also I think MS would have dropped the price more by now too.

It hurt Microsoft worse than Blu-Ray, imo.

I dont think it would hurt the sales a lot. I dought the average casual knows about RROD. Its not like it says on the Xbox 360 box "Warning: Theres a high chance that this console will have the RROD". Microsofts not that stupid to do that. They want as little people to know about that as possible.

I bought a 360 but sold it a week later because it was making funny noises and putting out alot of heat. I feared the RROd every time I turned it on. I just bought a PS3 a week ago and couldn't be happier.

Enjoy playing your games then.........oh wait.......what games?

Yeah, it's much better to have a large stack of games collecting dust while the console hits the repair depot again...........

Didnt effect it much at all, especially considering the Xbox 360 is selling like hotcakes and is pounding the PS3 in sales each and every day.

Dude, stop smoking. Everybody already knows the PS3 is selling better. Give it a rest already and join the real world with the rest of us.

Last time I checked the Xbox 360 console is 10 million units ahead in sales.....

I think you should join the real world with the rest of us and understand that the Xbox 360 is miles ahead, regardless of whether it released 1 year early.

There is no catching up for the PS3 now, the Xbox 360 would literally have to stop selling for that to happen.

actually the 360 mite stop selling before the ps3, isnt the ps3 ment to stay on the market and be in develepment for many years to come, the "720" might come out in like 3 -4 years. and please mate stop talking about sales, your the same guy taht said the 360 outsold the ps3 last year and used NPD sales to prove that point. :|

Microsoft might want to get a head start and release 720 before the PS4 comes out, but only if they can do that without rushing it so much that it causes a lot of faulty hardware like what happened to 360. The positive of rushing the 360 is that it got the headstart in sales. The negative is too many RROD's. So if Microsoft can beat Sony into next-gen by releasing their console atleast a year earlier AND do it with reliable hardware it would be the 1-2 punch!

If they do it too early, they risk alienating even more customers.

Indeed. The PS3 is selling better, however I bet the Computer is selling better. :)

I love my PC. I can't wait to build a new one next year and give this one to my girl. I am going to build a beast.
