Once again, that's wrong.Yeah if you animate youll know that anything past 30-36 fps the human eye cant see any different.
But with this said I can animate something at 10fps and make it look the same as 30fps.

You do realize that the normal human eye only reads around 25 frames per second?-Karmum-
Do you realise that science is stupid in that respect, in that even if you can only see that many frames, there's still an obvious improvement in 30 to 60 FPS. There's more to this than pulling numbers out of your ass and matching them up.
[QUOTE="-Karmum-"]You do realize that the normal human eye only reads around 25 frames per second?br0kenrabbitYou do realize that's wrong and has been discussed several time in this thread?
My teacher must have lied to me! :o
Oh well, that was an interesting read, to say the least. Guess I can admit to being owned.
[QUOTE="Khimarhi"]most people can't really tell any difference between 30 and 60 fps.. I know i can'tCranler
Most people can actually. Play Cod for ahile then go back to a 30fps game. If you dont see the difference there is something wrong with you.
You think Infinity Ward would drop the graphics quality of COD to get 60fps when most people wouldnt notice the higher framerate?
OMG, so true. Play COD 4 for a long time and then go to Halo 3 and the difference is just grotesque. There is a very noticeable difference between 30 and 60 FPS.
because 99% of the population can't see a difference post 24 fps?jliebel
You're actually dead wrong. And that is circumstantial even then.
If you claim that you don't see a difference between 30 fps and 60 fps, here's what you do
- Acquire a copy of GTA San Andreas on the PC, if you don't already have it, buy it, borrow it or downl... erm
- Turn all of the graphical settings as low as you can, to ensure that you can run it on 60 fps
- Go turn on the Frame Limiter in the options, which limits the framerate to 30 (aka how PS2 runs it)
- Play for a while, see how it's choppy as hell
- Go turn off the Frame Limiter
- Play for a while, see how it's smooth as silk
If you don't see the difference you are either in denial or blind.
It greatly depends on the game, the more frames the animations and physics use the higher the frame rate needed to see the full detail level (I think). 30fps, if animation is set to that, is the minimum needed for smooth play. Anything higher than that smooths the images motion, reducing effects such as ghosting and stutter.
I'm the type that can see the difference between 30 and 60, so when a game is performing below 30 I notice. I particularly hate it when they lock physics to something like 30fps, it is particularly common in console games were they don't take into account higher performing systems. Do you know how weird movement looks when your game is running 60fps but the physics/animations are locked at 30?
cause its enjoyable...your just different then if u can't stand anything lower then 60fps.
btw gt5:p runs at 30fps...i had to say it lol/
I don't.
PS: Far Cry 2 on consoles will run at 35 fps
AtrumRegina
You got a source to back that up? Because the previews we have seen disagree, plus 35 is an odd number.
because 99% of the population can't see a difference post 24 fps?jliebel
Don't confuse games with films. 24 frames per second is the standard for movies but that doesn't mean it's the maximum, especially when video games have no motion blur.
It really depends on the game. Crysis is just fine with 25 fps as it has motion blurring but older games like Counter-Strike: Source aren't. Especially CSS as it's a fast paced online shooter. Also turn based games don't need 60 fps anywhere.
I dont understand some of you fools. play Fozza2 60fps then go play Grid 30fps then tell me the humman eye cn't see 60fps becuse I sure the hell can tell when a game is 60fps vs 30 RippedFubar
I can't tell the difference because I don't look for it and it doesn't affect the game.
If you're a 360 owner, play CoD4 for a week straight then go back to play Halo 3 and come post here saying you don't notice a difference between both. I dare you. It's obvious there's a difference between 30 and 60.
Now, does it bother you or me? It depends from person to person. Playing PC games at 30FPS sucks because only recent ones use motion blur to convey a smoother image at lower FPS, however I'm not bothered by a 30FPS console game, it's silky smooth as so is 60 so I'm perfectly fine with it.
because your eyes cant tell any significant difference after 24 fps.bri360Obviously hasn't read the thread. You should try it. You may learn something.

[QUOTE="jojo198"]i don't get it why people can play a game that runs lower than 60fps, its more like playing it on a flip book or something, thats the reason why i'm not buying a current gen FPS, cause it hurts my eye, and it really ruined gameplay alot to me, and its hurrible especially for a racing game too, the reason why Gran Turismo is the best sim racer and Burnout Paradise for arcade racer, cause both of them runs smooth as silk in 60fps, and ppl doesn't care about how bad the frame rate they game are, most of the current gen console shooters runs in 30fps and it kills gameplay, thats why i like playing the older game much better.fjburgosWow you have an eagle eye because a human eye can't notice the diference.
I can notice and feel the difference......

I hope you aren't insinuating that 30fps is choppy.
Because it sure seems like you are and that's not true at all. :|
Oh, and for the record, everyone who is saying movies run at 30fps, that's a little fast, the industry standard is 24fps.
if i'm not mistaken i heard that the human eye can only go 30 fps.... 30+fps doenst make a diference
and btw i played many great games at 20 fps on my **** laptop and still had great fun... you guys are just to spoiled...
regorego
maybe you should read the thread and look at one of the links to studies showing that the average person can detect over 100fps
Meh, I had to run plenty of games at below 20 FPS. It sort of sucks, but I got by.
And RTSs are pretty playable even at 10 FPS.
because 99% of the population can't see a difference post 24 fps?jliebelThat means if I had...oh say Counter Strike Hellgate:London running at 24fps on one screen and 60fps on the other I wouldn't be able to tell the diffrence?
If you notice a difference between 60 and 30 then you either have a £30,000 TV or neural patterns of a different species.
framerate is fap-fodder above 40.
hongkingkong
I have a 17 inch LCD screen and I notice the framerate difference even if it drops from 60 to 40 in some games. It's pretty easy to see the difference for some games and some not.

i sayed i heard lol. But realy after 30fps is more than enough in my opinion
because 99% of the population can't see a difference post 24 fps?jliebel
ugh not this again. gaming FPS is different then real life FPS. think of real life having a super advanced motion blur technique. if i showed you 24 solid FPS you would easily see the screen stuttering.
[QUOTE="jliebel"]because 99% of the population can't see a difference post 24 fps?jojo198
u kidding me, when i play Grid demo i have a hard time driving cause of the low frame rate, and have no problem in Gran Turismo at all.

It depends on the pace. You aren't going to notice a drop from 100 fps to 1 fps in tetris, but I reckon you could notice if a game like burnout went from 100 to 60.

30 fps IS choppy. Just try what I said about GTA San Andreas, you WILL see the difference.
