I remember checking these forums daily prior to the last generation console launch.  People were completely dismissive of the Nintendo WII with its gimmicky controller and terrible spec sheet - yet it "won" the last console generation.

People called the Xbox 360 only partially next gen because it was still using a DVD drive and didn't have some of the built in features that would be offered on the PS3.

The PS3 was going to be the best console of the three and The Cell processor was going to put the Xbox to shame - turned out to be mostly Sony hype.

So a day after the Xbox One is announced how can anyone really judge the consoles?  Don't you think you have to wait until after launch prior to saying one console is 'better' than the other?

Just a thought.

I don't think anyone cares about winners at this point. Just alot of disappointment going around.

Admittedly, I did write off the Wii as a gimmick (which it turned out to be).  But winning, as measured by the boards, is determined by sales.  PS3+360 were far better consoles, regardless.

Here's the thing. Gimmicks make a lot of money. Its possible that a lot of people may buy this. I'm just not so sure most gamers will care though which throws Sony vs M$ system wars right out the window. One huge thing that sold the Wii was the cost. I think Microsofts biggest obstacle is convincing millions of casual consumers that Xbox Live is worth the money on top of the hefty cost of the system.

Sony has won the gamers. X1 may have won some non-gamers.

Nobody is declaring a winner, but you cant deny the PS4 has more going for it right now. Early sales are HUGE for new markets, the early adapter are the trend setters, the laggards (people that wait a year or two) will generally follow what the early adapters choose. Ealry adapters for next gen systems will be the HARDCORE gamers, and PS4 clearly has a leg up right now in that demographic.

This also happend last gen, the 360 at launch was promised a console designed for Hardcore gamers with state of the art graphics, xbox live etc. The people who flocked to that system were the hardcore gamers and the cards fell from there. Sony made a mistake launching 1 year later at an absurd price with a mediocre game selection, at the same time the 360 had gotten the hardcore gamers for year already and a lot of them had no reason to pick up a ps3 at that price. Things have turned around since the reveal of the Kinect i would say. M'soft dedicated itself to trying to go after that casual audience, while the PS3 built up a quality game lineup over time, continued its focus on the hardcore gamers to the point where i rarely turn on my 360 anymore and mainly play on ps3. M'soft will not have the advantage of having that hardcore audience as easily since both systems will come out together. Whoever wins that initial hardcore game r audience will likely have won the next gen war.

2 systems almost identical except xbox has kinect, slower memory, and significantly slower gpu xbox comfirmed to cost money to play online (wtf... seriously?) xbox will have licenses with new games (discs should still work.. buy game give to friend or sell?... this will help dev's get money!) xbox will require installs xbox will require kinect to be always hooked up There are no architectural differences this time around, this isn't like ps3/360 where they were so different they were hard to measure, and ps3 was so bad for developing most games never fully utilized the system. It's not even just about the power though... xbox already is appearing to be more intrusive. Unless xbox pulls some serious games out of thier ass the system itself seems terrible, even the wii u looks more desirable because it might have more going for it from nintendo later on.

I don't think you can compare the Xbox One to the Wii, The Wii was just the right thing at the right time. and it was incredibly easy to show off, they were showing the thing off on mainstream television before it came out. Celebrities playing Wii Tennis etc. I can't see Microsoft being able to live up to that. Their console really doesn't do much more than what a Roku Box/Apple TV/Tivo already do.

It's pretty hard to argue that the PS3 wasn't the best console last gen, and I didn't even own one.

But yeah, it's too early to call this gen.

the winner is the consumer.
