How can you hype over Heavy Rain? It looks horrible.

So I just finished watching the videos of Heavy Rain that I could find, and I have to say, it looks terrible.

Is the only reason that people seem to be hyping this the graphics? Yes, they look very good, but the gameplay we have seen so far looks awful. Even the movement I saw looked scripted, is this even anything more than a movie with overlay button pressing? It looks good, but I have yet to see an once of quality.

If so, I think I might have a movie some of you will enjoy until Heavy Rain is released.

I LOVED Indigo Prophecy aka Fahrenheit. I'm excited for QD's next game for the current generation. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it shouldn't be hyped or liked.

I've never played Indigo Prophecy, when it came out it looked too much like an interactive movie for me to like it, so I didn't buy it.

What can I expect for Heavy Rain?

And this is why the adventure gaming genre died.

Even when Quantic Dream try to put a little bit of action into their game, console gamers aren't pleased.

*sigh*

I hope it becomes popular. The genre could do with a kick in the pants.

Prolly the same aproach, but evolved, if you didn't like the idea of IP, Heavy Rain won't be for you either. I for one think IP was a great game, and can't wait for heavy rain.

I'm a fan of some adventure games.

I enjoyed Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and the Sam & Max games. Is Heavy Rain anything like those? From what I've seen so far this looks like a movie with a PaRappa styled overlay to give the player an illusion of actual gameplay.

There was gameplay in MGS4. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as previous MGS games (Even though I disliked the entire series) and the cutscenes were annoying.

It's different. The "puzzles" aren't fixed or anything. Depending on how you complete a certain objective, the storyline and gameplay carry out in a different manner than if you would've done something else.

Have you played Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy? I think it's an evolution of that type of gameplay.

I would hope though, there would be less mini-games/quick-time events. I really can't wait for the day I see the traditional adventure game married with the ambitious concept Quantic Dream is putting forth.

That seems pretty interesting, I might try out Indigo Prophecy and see if it changes my opinion.

Why don't any of the Heavy Rain trailers seem to be advertising these features? From what I've seen so far it just seemed like vague, cryptic, graphics flexing.

Indigo Prophecy, and I expect the same of Heavy Rain is the next step in our old "Adventure" games like Monkey Island. The idea is that you are playing a movie, and you can interact with its different elements, change the course of action depending on things you did which also gives to different outcomes.

Its not a genre for everyone, in fact, I can bet my butt that 99% of the gamers/users here only use it because of the great graphics that it has, but only 1% knows what it will be about. Most are surely expecting some sort of "action" game, but will find it as something completely opposite.

Becuase Quantic Dream are developing it, and although past experience has taught me to now hype a game soley because of the developer, I just can't help myself.

Well, Quantic Dream is seriously trying to push "the cinematic". I don't think it's as "on rails" as the teasers seem to be giving out.

I am excited for this game because it is a throwback to the point and click adventure games of yore, which to this day is one of my favorite genres. This, along with its spiritual predicessor Indigo Prophecy, and Telltale Games' Sam & Max and Strong Bad's CGAP are very exciting to me because many had long ago pronounced this genre dead, and yet it's been resurfacing.

I feel like somtimes that I'm the only person on here who DIDN'T like Indigo Prophecy, and as such I'm not exactly hyped up for this game, but I understand that a lot of people really liked that game, and it's totally reasonable that those people would be excited for this one.
