My question is, how close is the PS3 from actually "turning the corner" the argument has always been, too pricey, too little games, horrid exclusives, and bad online. well the games are close to the 360, the exclusives are better than the 360, and the online is catching up and FREE. So im asking as a NON-FANBOY, is the PS3 really only a price cut away from really "turning" this gen around as far as sales. cuz lets be honest...the games are there, or very close

I agree. It desperately needs a price cut. Even just a 50$ cut might do it.

I find these two statement together funny. If you were asking as a NON-FANBOY, you would have left the exclusives being better then the 360 out.

if sony could reduce the price, even if only by a bit, the 360 would stand no chance. lets see if they can. if they do, this could be the biggest turnaround ever!

Or could be personal preference:? Anyway the only thing holding the PS3 back is that hefty price in this recession

lets face it, recent exclusives are much better on the ps3. the 360 has some great exclusives, but not recent ones.

Needs a $100 price cut. The economy is in bad shape. A $400 PS3 is kinda outrageous.

You are right it has been getting good exclusives so he could have just said "it has some good exclusive games" and left out the part about the 360. Which would then have made the NOn-FANOY part understandable and I would have not of found it funny.

i think that after a price cut the ps3 will begin a turnaround, but i dont think it will be instantanious, it will still take some time to get momemtum behind it and all the people who wont listen to anything about the ps3 to finally take their hands off their ears.

it is definetly getting closer to the 360 but i dont think its on par yet, price online just a better variety of good games to add to the good exclusive would level it up.

This is somewhat true. I think Sony needs a major overhaul of it's marketing for the PS3, because what they're doing is either not enough or going in the wrong direction.

I don't think it'll blow out the XBox 360 at all. Even with a $50 price cut it's not going to catch the XBox 360. If M$ drops the price of the XBox 360 down to $150, it's over. Sony's needs to drop the PS3 down at least $100 and also needs to release more JRPG exclusive titles. Then the PS3 will start catching up to the XBox 360, but it'll most likely be too little to late. They will most likely sell neck and neck for the rest of the generation. If the PS3 loses another holiday to the XBox 360, it's definitely over. The Xbox 360 will be at least 10-11million ahead worldwide if that happens. I don't see the PS3 making those numbers up before M$ launches a new XBox. in 2011-2012..

$150 and a waggle/super casual game a-la-wiifit and it will sell more than the wii and ps3 combined. And believe MS isnt stupid, if Sony lowers the price (which would be stupid because they just started recovering from their loss) MS would obliterate them with the casual plan.

To start this year, the PS3 does have the edge right now with exclusives, but GTA IV: The Lost and Damned was pretty good. Still the PS3 has Killzone 2 and the excellent MLB: The Show. We still have to wait and see why M$ announces for the remainder of the year. We still don't know if Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 will make it out this year or not. the PS3 is famous for having lots of delays. M$ is famous for announcing a lot of exclusive DLC. Anything can happen this year.

I think it's too late. A price cut isn't going to do much at this point. It will help them sell more machines per month, but they are a few million consoles down and MS still has the ability to undercut them again. They should have made a move when MS did their price cut a while ago.

History says 3rd place consoles stay there. Nothing on PS3 is compelling enough to pull current 360 owners away from their machines. Wii owners on the other hand probably won't buy another console. Therefore the market for the triple is shrinking daily.

Once a system gets to $150 it pretty much affordable to people less then middle class. If the economy starts to turn around people will gladly grab $150 XBox 360 instead of $350 - $500 PS3 any day of the week. That's pretty much what happened this past holiday when the Wii and XBox 360 pretty much crushed the PS3 in sales. you think the same thing won't happen this year if M$ does another $50 price drop across the board? Unless Sony drops their PS3 down to $250, it's would lose again.

Kinda agree.... but MS have also destroyed their reputation with the RROD. Sony have lost market share, but MS have made the world think they can't make reliable hardware. I would be interested in the new xbox, but i will be very very nervous about it dying.

I think M$ fixed a lot of that with their $1 billion / 3yr warranty deal. They also released both the Falcon and not Jasper motherboards with cooler CPU/GPU chips. So the RROD will be a thing of the past for most of this year. Sony rep is still tarnished for marketing their PS3 as a Blu-Ray player first, just to winthe media wars and losing all those exclusives to Microsoft and Nintendo. They are also still in last place, when they were 1st the previous generation. They report huge losses for last year. That's a huge downer right there. A lot of gamers feel Sony failed miserable this gen. Even though Sony is slowly crawling out of the hole, it's a BIG HOLE right now. Even their big exclusives like Resistance 2 and LBP didn't fly off retail shelves like the should have. Took several weeks for them to sell 1 million copies. So I don't think M$ XBox 360 is in bad shape compared to Sony's PS3.

So im asking as a NON-FANBOY, is the PS3 really only a price cut away from really "turning" this gen around as far as sales. cuz lets be honest...the games are there, or very close

Even though the price never bother me, I personally think once it drops by $50-$100 it will sell like crazy.

Its just the price thats holding the PS3 back, everything is there but the system is expensive for the average gamer. Personally I think Sony should hold off from a price cut till atleast Nov-Dec but preferably early next year. Sony needs to show why its expensive and a better option for gamers. Market the exclusives and the fact its has free online etc.

well a hundred dollar price cut will definitly help as far as the games go its obviously a matter of opinion. I do think however if you are looking for Sony to reclaim first place in the console wars that its not going to happen (at least this gen) perhaps next gen they will come out with a console that isnt so expensive from the start and easy to develop for and maybe even inovative and then they will stand a chance. However right now its too late for that most likely.

to be honest i would have to agree. few weeks back i kinda wish i got a ps3 over 360. but the price was the only reason that made my decision. i can see the ps3 doing well infact alot better in the long run and will "soon" over take 360

They need a bottom line model, 40gb, no wireless built in on top of a £50 price cut, then sell the wireless adapter for £60, just like 360 =)

[QUOTE="thetruespin"][QUOTE="itzagir"]Imo they are gonna need more than a price cut. Their reputation is broken now, i still hear people at school saying LOL NO GAEMS. And we all know PS3 has good games now..itzagir
Kinda agree.... but MS have also destroyed their reputation with the RROD. Sony have lost market share, but MS have made the world think they can't make reliable hardware. I would be interested in the new xbox, but i will be very very nervous about it dying.

Yet xbox is the most talked about console, and everyone in my school has one..

No the world doesn't think MS can't make reliable hard ware, the world knows that MS can't make reliable hard ware. And besides a lot of my friends are ditching their 360s for PS3s they're so fed up of the RROD, my brother has a plan set out for when his warranty ends and his 360 RROD on him, that's how bad the RROD has got, a price cut in the next two months of about £50 and a hell of a lot of advertising would really pull the PS3 back

Just a 50-100$ price cut and its over. Even though the PS3 is far cheaper than the 360 in terms of value, but consumers in majority are ignorants and they don't go with the quality and quantity that is the PS3, its later that they realize the real price of a Xbox.

Better exclusives? lol , remember this is coming from a non fan boy. The online is not catching up at all, microsoft went even further ahead with the nxe, and sony have done nothing about it.

This topic has been debated many many times, the Ps3 will never turn the tables, it wont surpass the 360 nor the Wii. IT started in last place and it'll stay there. If you want to see the system selling better though, a price cut in around 8 months should do the trick when production costs decrease below retail price, needless to say the line up for this year is pretty solid.

I find these two statement together funny. If you were asking as a NON-FANBOY, you would have left the exclusives being better then the 360 out.

whos going to argue that they arent....

Hmm a non-fanboy? you seem to hate the 360 quite a bit gathering from your last posts.

MotoJ19
im not saying im not a fanboy, i am, just looking at my posts/ i meant it as looking at the ps3 from a gamers perspective, and not a fanboy. a.k.a "taking off the fanboy glasses"

He's trying to say that a non fanboy wouldn't be a bigot and ignore the fact that people besides him have different tastes/opinions than him.

I think its a price cut away from probably blowing out the 360,

A 100 dollar pricecut STILL leaves the the PS3 above mainstream pricing(which historically has been 200 dollars, but with the success of the wii you can make the argument it has moved up to 250). The arcade got to that price point and the PS3 pricedrop still leaves you with one machine in the "sweet spot" and one above it. When the PS3 outsold the 360 priced more BOTH machines were above the "sweet spot". That won't be the case this time.

How is it definitely Over?

Animal-Mother

Once a system gets to $150 it pretty much affordable to people less then middle class. If the economy starts to turn around people will gladly grab $150 XBox 360 instead of $350 - $500 PS3 any day of the week. That's pretty much what happened this past holiday when the Wii and XBox 360 pretty much crushed the PS3 in sales. you think the same thing won't happen this year if M$ does another $50 price drop across the board? Unless Sony drops their PS3 down to $250, it's would lose again.

You know how gimped a 150 dollar 360 would be?

Umm, as "gimped" as the arcade is. Not having a HDD makes price reducing MUCH easier, as the the HDD will cost Sony the same price the entire gen...it will only get bigger(why do you think we see the PS3 remain the same price and just get bigger drives?). Man, to be honest you come across as a cow who got a 360 and just can't come to grips that Sony isn't a top even though you seem to play yours an awful lot. I honestly think you'd LOVE the 360 if the machine was identical and the playstation name was emblazoned upon it.

Well the problem I see, in North America at least (all I can really judge) is that the 360 has become synonymous with gaming this generation. Microsoft got their good games out fast and in good time, so now every 18-27 year old male and their dog has a 360. 360 has earned a place in pop-culture (much different than the Wii btw) and continues to be the "PS2" of this gen. So even though the PS3 may have better games (arguable) and a price cut, it still has to fight the name recognition that the 360 now has. Is it unfair? Perhaps. But I think that the PS3 cannot top the pop-culture popularity of the 360 this gen.
