SEGA already owned SSB with Powerstone.

That was Capcom, not Sega.

It was also on the PSP, so your point is moot :P

There were about 40 in Brawl and there could have been 40 more Sony or MS could maybe have 20 so it would be a fail.

well for one, super smash brawl sucks, melee is better, and for 2, if someone wants to play a melee'ish type game, they will just play melee. no substitutes

That doesn't stop Powerstone from being the superior brawler. SSBM and SSBB don't know whether they're a fighter or a brawler. They're stuck in between and can't choose whether to be a full fighter or full brawler. Powerstone knows what it is, and does what it is very well.

Exactly. Ya know, to me, Smash proved that highly popular game mascots make a game good rather than quality. I've played both Powerstones and they are miles better than Smash at being a fighting/party game. Powerstone had designs to fit One on One matches making it a unique fighter with generally balanced items and a unique Super Form feature. There were no stage bans or character bans(besides Valgas) in Powerstone making it much better than that competitive Melee garbage. Then there is Powerstone 2 that had 4 player, wackier items, and more skilled based gameplay. It was more of a party game at heart compared to the first but, at least it isn't as random or as luck based as Smash with the items on high. Powerstone = underrated. Smash = overrated.

I disagree with the "Powerstone 2 had more skill based gameplay" thing. 1 was much more skill based. 2 was just an item spam.

Sony could pull this off. Spyro, Ratchet, Clank (giant Clank anyone?), Nathan Hale, Chimera, Snake, Nathan Drake, Cole McGrath, Kratos, Zeus, Nariko, Hellghast, Jak, Daxter (giant Daxter), Crash Bandicoot, and Sackboy. 15 characters right off the top of my head. Add 3rd party characters as well as first party I missed and Sony has a game I'd buy. I don't care if Samus could be Link, I want to see Jak and Ratchet duke it out!

You already added some third party in there. Spyro, Snake and Crash Bandicoot wouldn't be in it as 'first party' characters.

I was comparing Powerstone 2 to the party aspects of Smash where the item spamming is more skillful in comparison. We all Powerstone 1 was better than 2. It even had better voice acting for crying out loud.

Not to mention since Capcom owns it, it could conceivably appear as a console downloadable (for ANY of the three)

Dont mistake your own confusion with the game's suposed lack of identity. SSB is a Brawler franchise, theres nothing to be confused about here,
