Hello friends

So i have been noticing one thing. many developers or publishers to some extent get bashed on when they ripped thier fans, turn away from them, become greed etc. be it ubisoft, activision, EA, bethesda. but valve are doing almost same thing. only thing post Half life 2 valve ever did good is steam which is biggest gaming platform and praise for that.

but gaming wise they suck after HL2, they released episode 1 2 years later which should have been epilogue DLC rather than full expansion and it was terrible game. if any other develop do this. they would have gotten eaten alive. and they even consider episodes are full sequels so they cannnot develop full sequel instead reusing same assets. year later episode 2 was released and it was fantastic game but started showing its age in 2007 as this was the game that should have been just expansion pack in 2005. it show episodic formula didnot worked well thats why they never released EP3 and leave it in cliffhanger.

They released Left 4 dead which is imo worst Valve game of all time. just generic coop PVE zombie shooter but then year later they released a full fledge sequel. it should have been a freaking DLC!!. not a full sequel.

and after Half life being absent from 2 decades. they reusing its name to sell VR sets only.

on other hand we see few fans who remade original Half life as mod now releasing a complete game Black Mesa in 2020. what an achievement. i mean these people done it more than valve.

Valve used to be my fav developers. there was a time i consider them as choosen one in gaming industry. but now they fallen and still get free pass like they used to before i explain above.

so my friends, why do they get free pass for not listening to fans? lets discuss

Sit down, shut the **** up, and find more games to play. If you did, you wouldn't have to constantly whine on forums that one of the three videogame series you play didn't continue.

Fact is that Valve could charge for so much stuff on Steam, yet they allow so many things for free:

- Free dlc for their games (Microsoft wanted them to make dlc paid)

- Free mod workshop (Bethesda has made this paid)

- Steam is full of features that Valve could monetise. But they are halfway in between the nice guy and a business trying to make money.

They don't get a free pass - people like you and the EGS folks bitch about them constantly on here.

Personally I don't think anyone is entitled to a game - it's one of the most childish pretty stances to take. VR needs games and a game developer made games for it. Tough shit if you don't have VR; buy a headset or play something else. The fact that the game makes people jealous is the WHOLE FREAKING POINT - they aren't going to intentionally make a game with no appeal. It might suck anyway, but if they are going to make a game for a niche hardware platform they'd better make one that gets people excited

@uninspiredcup: There were no FPS like Half Life or Half Life 2. Nobody was doing that back then in 1998 or 2004.

Meanwhile there were a million MOBAs and a million Card games exactly like what Valve made. What they do now is pretty low risk, low budget and low effort.

How exactly did they ripoff anyone ??? you didn't gave a single example ...

I mean, is Valve any good as of now ??? well, not really, they haven't done anything that relevant and they are riding on DOTA 2 and Steam massive success.

Sure, maybe Artifact was a prime example of Valve trying to ripoff an entire market, but they miserably failed and they couldn't even lift the ground, however despite that, they haven't really made what your title claims.

As for the new HL ... it kind of looks cool.

Also Black Messa is kind of bad.

my point is. there was no reason to release a full sequel after 1 year which is exact same as its predecessor. if anyother company release it. they would be eaten alive.

I'd agree at launch it was pretty bare-bones.

Thankfully (with 2) you could basically combine them into one game.

Nice to play a game at that time without fucking unlocks or progression trees, just pick up and play.

Game makers keep making games because they have to, Valve is now primarily a digital distributor and aren't under same pressure as typical developers and publishers.

But, you know, if you want more Half Life, use your economic leverage. Boycott Steam, buy your games on GOG or Epic or whatever, if enough PC gamers did it they would be forced to make more games.

I mean, probably won't amount to anything, but, you either try or just accept the reality they've no desire to use the Half Life IP anytime soon except to push VR.

But also there a lot of good alternatives to games Valve no longer makes. Regarding Left 4 Dead there's the Zombie Army games, really liking the latest one. There's World War Z and Vermintide series. I would think just finding something to fill the holes left by these games is probably best thing one could do.

I know, man, I am so pissed at Valve for ripping us off.

First, they give us Half-Life, which is like the best shooter ever made. I mean, how dare they!?!?

Then they give us an SDK for that game which births a host of glorious modifications like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic (to name two of literally hundreds or thousands) for free. I mean, WTF is up with that? Grrrr!

Then they give us Half-Life 2 which, somehow, is actually better than the original Half-Life--something no one thought was possible. How. Dare. They.

Following Half-Life 2 we get two great expansions that not only match the quality of the base game, but expand upon the story and give us more of what we love. I don't know about you, but that pisses me off.

Oh and you know how they were cool with mods in Half-Life 1? Ditto for Half-Life 2. Man that pisses me off.

And you know, during most of this time they run Steam which is arguably the largest library of games, provides an amazing service, is generally full of affordable products and great sales and discounts, community tools, built-in mod support for developers that want it, and so on.

Yeah man, I tell you what, I really feel ripped off by Valve. All these great games and services they provide, in addition to their pioneering spirit towards hardware development. It's just a travesty, I tell you what.

Especially when you factor in that they are still a privately owned, non-publicly traded company that can do what is best for their customers and not their shareholders. Ridiculous, I tells ya!

Haha QFT

Seriously @ghosts4ever you have one of the worst attitudes towards gaming I have ever seen. I would almost (almost!) rather listen to an Xbox and PS fanboy argue for 10 hours straight than see one more post from you about how your favorite series is awesome and everything else is shit.

Personally, I have enjoyed the last decade or so of watching gamers freak out about DRM, decrying it at every turn, then going into another thread and saying "Oh, I just picked up this awesome game on Steam!...." Blissfully unaware.

Being a "fan" of valve is almost like being a fan of Amazon. They just distribute games and occasionally release narrow focused games.

Other than GOG, there are not no-DRM games/services. Even console games have DRM - the console itself, especially if you are buying digital.

Oh, I know. I remember the realization hitting me, when I came home and tried to install Civilization V from a physical disk, that the morons who had been cheering on DRM (IE - Steam) for so long had normalized it to the extent that people would accept it anywhere, and for virtually no reason. It was like watching people cheer on higher taxes, and celebrate when more of their paycheque was taken. Through the 90's and the early to late 2000's next to nothing, on the PC at least, had DRM on it. Steam, and the morons cheering on more restrictions on the products they bought, paved the way for it becoming ubiquitous. Now it seems a generation of knuckleheaded gamers scarcely even realize that this hyperrestricted model of game "ownership" is a new thing, and your moronic consumer choices made it happen.

4. I already mentioned that EP2 was great but still in 2007 it was being there done that and EP2 in 2007 was dated compare to STALKER SOC and Crysis 1.

Your whole idea of VR and what it is is, quite frankly, ass backwards. You crap all over Half Life: Alyx as if it's this slap in the face to fans. As if the game were some kind of gimmicky mini-game collection, like some soft of Half-life Mario Party. But then you go on to praise Doom VR, which is LITERALLY Doom with VR awkwardly tacked on.

No. Half Life: Alyx is a full single player game. It will be the most interactive game of all time. You know Duke Nukem, that series you love? You know how interactive those games are where you can go around the environment and interact with many different objects? You know how much you praise that? Well Half Life ALyx is that, times 10,000. Rummage through shelves, looking for ammo. Make your own cover by literally grabbing objects in front of you. No gravity gun required. You can just grab stuff. This game is only possible to the extent that its playable in VR. If you remove the VR, you'll have to add cumbersome menus to be able to interact with all of the objects in the world.

This is THE VR game. This is the game we all hoped VR may possibly one day be. This is not a gimmick. Your posting is the gimmick.

Okay Ghost, I had enough of you're BS! I'm not interest returning to the world of HL series, Episode 2 was a done deal and I move on. But this whole thing hating on Alyx is the most stupidest thing I have read to date! Valve stated on why they aren't going to develop HL3, VR is the pinnacle of hardware they want to invest and test. While Motion Capture Technology wasn't on par what Valve wanted to do for HL3 which never got into development in the first place, VR is their Motion Capture Technology they were looking for. That said, you should be praising for Valve ever returning to making games, this is a huge step for Valve, so show some support or stop bitching about Valve cause you either buy VR or you don't!

And one last thing, no one gets a free pass, no one in the game industry, if ever!

Ghost is deeply insecure about how Alyx is going to completely engulf Doom: Painkiller, the man is having a breakdown.

you cant compare Doom to Painkiller as Painkiller was far more restricted with no level design and enemies only running at you.

here you got wide open design with platforming elements and puzzle solving and demons react different instead of running at you only

i couldnot complete painkiller because i was so bored by it.
