So you walk around on the street in crusades time and you don't want to see beggers?
Its not a stealth game( nobel prize nomination already?)
Other than looking at core gameplay you are nit-picking things you find frustrating because you (no offense) probibly suck at the game.
How about graphics, the vast amount of gameplay elements ? Do these things mean nothing to you?

hongkingkong

haha, vast amount of gameplay elements? the only thing that was done well in the game was the free-running. for a game to have only 3 different missions is pathetic, the combat is dull and repetitive and playing the game for any extended length of time is incredibly dreary and depressing

It depends on how you play the game, halo 3 had the same gameplay throughout and nobody said *yawwwwn*!!! All you ever did was go through a linear map to shut off a shield or wipeout a boss. I'd say there is 28 hours of good fun to be had with AC of which doesn't get rediculously repetitive . Then youcould go do the acheivement glitch which saves a load of time :)

hongkingkong

That is true, but Assassin's Creed combat can get boring, and before you make an assassination you have to investigate which is the same every time. I love Assassin's Creed, but it is a very repetitive game.

i see.

Well, more on topic, the main "flaw" in assassins creed, which people list almost as if by rote, the 'repetitiveness' doesnt bother me at all because i just dont feel it.

yea you do the same thing, eavesdrop, pickpoket, interogate, but when you them, you're treated with a niftly little cutscene-esque segment with excellent voice acting which really pushes the story along. and because they're all so unique, the actual act of the investigation doesnt get boring to me.

JPOBS

yeah same here, but i do think they shouldve put a larger variety of investigation with more depth. fighting with your fist wasnt as enjoyable as it could have been and pickpocket couldve used a minigame. eavesdrop couldve had more depth too.

Also i wish the main assassinations were a bit more...inventive...they couldve taken a few tip from hitman with the many ways to assassinate someone. but the game was awesome and i think the best part is free running and the chases. Also the fact that the game was sooo unique compared to the stuff we play now, i mean we get piles of fpses, shooters etc.

This game is awful repetative boring and frustrating wtf is up with the beggers they just bother you everytime you do something. Combat is fun but gets old. I mean how com my only stealth move is to pray and sleep in hay to avoid guards. Why is it so hard to do an informer kill when they walk the same rout rite by the guards and beggers exposing were you are how come i can't give them money to leave me alone.

Gamespot's review is awful it does not mention any of the many flaws in this game.

How did this game score better then ratchet and clank, Uncharted, and Mass Effect.

Ign's review was dead on about this game.

kdupe88

It's not that hard to simply go around the idiots who keep shoving you. And you can always punch them in the face so they run away. Never had any problems with beggars during my missions. The only harassers I found annoying were the ones at the dock. I don't know what genius thought that'd be a good idea. Failure to avoid a drunk at the docks = instadeath. Oh what fun... You can't shove them back either as that counts as killing a civilian and you get the guards on your ass. The whole dock area is stupid. Should've either cut it from the game or made Altair capable of swimming.

With that said, it's still an excellent game. The above is the one major criticism I have. The ending's kinda sucky too. Other than that it's a beautiful, atmospheric, creative, entertaining game.

I think its a love hate kinda game because i am actually really enjoying it despite reptativeness. I know its repatative but i love it. Still a 9.0 in my book, unless its ending is as bad as some say.

It is very annoying that it scored higher than Uncharted. The scores should be swapped, and then AC should have a further 2 or 3 points deducted.

The majority either love or hate the game. I have a feeling the sequel will sell just as well though, as many will get caught up in the hype again, even if they disliked the original.

Yes some of the so-called 'immersion tactics' just felt cheap, like bowing your head down and praying, yep doing that randomly will just make you fade in with the game...

or maybe you havent played the game :)

Seems like a PS3 glitch because I have yet to come across that on the 360. Sometimes what can happen though on the 360, is that if you run in to a guard and aggravate him, that is near guards that are bothering a citizen. Will usually stear them up to come after you and the citizen will run away scared. As far as helping them I never had any glitches with that.

I don't think it is overrated, it deserves the 9, it delivered something new, it has the next-gen touch, the AI was smart, everything you do has a reaction from the crowd, the climbing was something I never saw last-gen, the free roaming was so amazing, the huge world, 3 huge cities, I said it and I will say it again, AC is my GOTY for 2007, I mean look at the animations, it was so real, every inch of any object, the body interact with it, it was something exactly just like GTA, I said it alot of times, it is GTA in a different timeframe, look how successful this game is, the fastest selling new IP in since 2002, it is confirmed.

The downers: 1- Weak AI, I mean combat wise.

2- It didn't have a realtime weather change and day-night like in GTA, I just wanted to do some missions in the night, raining, I just wanted to see how the cities lights in the evening, I really wish they do this in their sequel.

3- Side missions should be more varied.

Episodic content is the biggest BS ive ever heard, this is why the digital age sucks because it just means less for our money. Eventually things will become cheaper? Yeah right, im a patient person, i wait for things to drop in price and its VERY true for hard-copy media like games, dvds and music. With the digital age, youre going to be milked to eternity

i dont see how this game got a 9, its not even a stealth game since it works much better if you kill everyone with counters than if you actually try to be an assasin, games like COD 4 and Zack and Wiki are loads better than this game; it shouldn't have gotten more than a 7.5 or 8.0.

Not sure what GS was thinking with the 9.0. It's a 7.0 at best. Extremely shallow and repetative games do not deserve 9's.

I agree with the TC! Ubisoft is lining pockets to over inflate the reviews. I gave up on the game after I started on memory block 5. I traded the game for Uncharted and that was the best thing I did this year as far as gaming goes! AC is the biggest dissappointment of 07 IMO! I give it a 6.5/10!

I think gamespot never played the full game, just 1 or 2 levels. If you only play that, you could possibly feel that the game deserved a 9, it happend to me. With time, it started to get really boring....

I blame it on xmas, they released so much games that there were so many reviews to make that none of the games was really played to its full.

I've seen it all the time on the 360 version. Another funny glitch like that is after you complete a training for a technique and someone says "Kill the infidel!" for no reason.

actually, i've experienced that as well. i went "WTF!? i just saved your ass o_O"

I've never come across it.

I've had it happen.

They say, "Thank god you saved me. I'll make sure you're rewarded for your kindness," or whatever, and then the vigilantes show up and so forth, and the mission ends. Then they go back to being a normal civilian standing next to a group of dead guards, and they say, "What happened here?"

It's a minor nitpick to be sure, but it's one of the many niggling flaws with Assassin's Creed that, in my opinion, make it closer to an 8 than a 9.

i enjoyed this game

probably the worst part of the experience for me was that i was in a rush to beat it since i was playing it on my gf's fathers ps3 while i stayed there for a week

i can understand how pennyarcade explained that sandbox games are not ment to be played under a deadline, i really just wanted to climb and do side missions... running from rooftop to rooftop was just perfect

considering i went through this game in a week though i cant see justifying the 60$ purchase... at first most places they tried to buy it didnt even sell the non collectors version

then again i really don't get hyped for games and watch too many preview videos... i was the same with hl2 which everyone was hyped for

so in that sense, i really didn't have much to be dissapointed about... i guess if you compare the combat to the later prince of persia games

Im glad I was smart enough not to buy this game. Its hardly worth the rental. I do agree this game could have been so much more. You can hardly interact with anyone. If this game was more like a rpg/stealth/level up/ game would have been great.
