From what I have heard and seen, RFOM is a very generic FPS that is just a bunch of borrowed elements put together.
PD0 was out way before RFOM.aznfool07
It was out a YEAR before, yes. Not WAY OUT.
ANyways, PD0 was a JOKE the day it was released. Forget comparison's to RFOM, PD0 was lame on it's own merit's.
The proof is in the pudding, and the NUMBER ONE GAME PLAYED BY 360 OWNERS FOR THE FIRST YEAR?
Last Generation's HALO 2!
Good job, PD0, for being such a blah game, that people preferred playing last gen games instead.
Think about paying $400 for a BRAND NEW 360 and a few days later playing your old copy of HALO 2 since you didn't like the games on your new system.
That scenerio played out for a whole year until Gears of War topped Halo 2 finally.
Yes, GS messed up with their 9.0 given to PDO, but that's already been discussed here, and it's just one of those sad mis-reviews GS has.
Funny thing, now reviews like PD0, are inquestion, since GS has been the joke of the web for being a bribe site. Who knows the truth.

Sorry, opinions of that caliber are useless. Until you actually play it and beat it,try it online, you really don't know what you are talking about...for any game.
Would you listen to someone dogging HALO 3 or SMG if they only heard and saw things that made those games seem generic? No.
YOu would instruct them to play them first.
More than likely just because it was the first FPS out with the next gen consoles. By the time RFOM had come out the standards over what a AAA title is had been raised and it did not meet the new criteria for AAA status.jdp0412
Bingo.

And that is why I said "from what I have heard and seen". And I have heard it a lot. FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD, cows praise RFOM so much because it is the only decent FPS on their console.
I think the various online modes are great. The variety of vehicls, weapons and play styles. The arenasare as or as small as big as the number of players and if I remember correctly, you can have 32 players plus.
The single player borrowed heavily from golden-eye but then again golden eye was no poor game.
Overall, it was good value for money. The same reasons time-splitters was so good is the reason PDZ got AAA. The only reason I think people dont linke it is because its a little cartoony in its style.

But that's not true. Cows have CoD4 and Unreal III. Forget Cows in general, it's a good game, it's not the greatest, but it's good. Playing it will prove that.

LoL look who's talking... RFOM is very generic and bland. The only reason ps3 users praise it is because there is seriously a limited selection of games worth playing on their console.
PDZ might not have had the best single player. But it did have great gameplay, graphics and the best part of it was the online. If PDZ were to be released today it would not score a 9 but back when it was released it's graphics and gameplay really shined (I'm speaking of the online portion). It had online co-op which was really a rare feature and still is in games today.
Don't bash PDZ because your an RFOM fanboy that had nothing better to play on ps3 for months on end. I'm not saying RFOM is bad but it's online wasn't as good as PDZ's.
RFOM was almost a complete rip-off of Halo 1. Almost exactlykrp008
LOL.
Haha.
Dude, other than the Life thing, they are completely different. The Twin Analog scheme was copied by BUNGIE from a game called Timesplitters that came out a year before HALO for Xbox.
Halo doesn't even have alternate firing modes for the guns, something many games have, including RESISTANCE.
timing... RFOM is a far better game.Always-HonestYeah totally agree PD0 is the biggest dissapointment in gameing everything they did in that game was terrible :(.

WTH? What?
Look at my Gamerscore, son, I've been playing 360 longer and more than you (I currently have a Halo 360 and an ELITE, since I do LAN parties with buds all the time). I have 28,000 points vs. your measly 8000. I bought PD0 THE DAY IT CAME OUT.
I reserved it, and got it at 360's LAUNCH. I based my opinion's on it's the fact it's a very, very mediocre game. NOTHING I've heard changed my mind, I was the first on these boards denouncing it a day later.
Gimme a break. I am not a "RFOM fanboy, either" as I only merely like RFOM, I don't love it. Horrible job with your assumptions there.
Gears of War was my favorite game for Holiday 2006, not RFOM. YOu are WAY, WAY off base there, champ.

I didn't say buy it. That' just one of a myriad of examples of how those games are different.
TRY THIS ONE FOR SIZE :
Halo and Resistance are almost nothing ALIKE. How's that one.?

That is one of the dumbest and most ignorant things posted here in awhile. You have no idea about the depth of Resistance Online. And you already stated the reason why.
Because the PS3 has lacked in the games department, pretty much everyone had a go at Resistance online at some time or another. The community is still huge, despite the fact that many players have moved on to Vegas, Warhawk, CoD4, and UT3. But they keep coming back to Resistance because of the flaws with the other games.
Go to myresistance.net and tell me that PDO has a better online component. Thats such a ridiculous statement it made me honestly laugh out loud.
Insomniac is still releasing patches/updates for the game. They've come up with new gametypes, game modes, worldwide servers (that are dedicated, none of that P2P nonsense), TWO map packs, they've inplemented a report function for cheaters, they fix glitches, they tune the weapons, the developers of the game even occassionally get on and play with the public in advertised public games.
You're telling me that a broken and disappointing Perfect Dark game is better than Resistance? If Perfect Dark Zero didn't have the title of Perfect Dark, it would be completely ignored and forgotten about, even more so than it already is. What exactly does PD0 have going for it, specifically the online? Because I can discuss at length while Resistance is 10x the game that PD0 is, especially the online.
Quit commenting on something of which you have no knowledge. It makes you look foolish.

OK, what features and gameplay mechanics make this game so good?
Dedicated servers? EA do that with most of their online games like BF2!
64 Players online PDZ had up to 32 players, correct me if I'm wrong and there are tons of ga\me modes with or without bots.
Variety of vehicles? PDZ has various vehicles, jet packs etc all great fun.
Large player maps? PDZ has some huge maps that really use high vantage points.
Number of weapons? PDZ has tons of different weapons, duel wielding etc.
I'm not trying to hype PDZ, I'm more interested in showing you guys that resistance is distinctly average yet you guys make it out as the second coming. lol just cus its on your beloved PS3
Have you played PD0? Wow.... I'm not one to bash on Rare, because the first Perfect Dark was great... but holy hell did they drop the ball on this one. From what I have heard and seen, RFOM is a very generic FPS that is just a bunch of borrowed elements put together.

I didn't say it was amazing, but its far far far better than PDO. Resistance doesn't have 64 players online, its got 40.

Crysis borrowed almost every element of FPS besides the RPG element and that why it was good. And also the nano suit is awesome and new.
Because, when Resistance was reviewed, it had to stack up against Gears. And against Gears, most games look like garbage. PD0 didn't have this handicap.
As for the PS3, either:
1. It's got tech in it from a year later than the 360, and developers should have been able to leverage this dramatically better tech to make more impressive games on day one; or
2. It's got tech that's the same age as 360, and developers should have had the same amount of time to get used to it such that their games were equally impressive as 360 games on day one.
There's always a third option, of course - Sony's utterly incompetent. My point is, Resistance shouldn't get a free pass for being a launch title. If the developers weren't given radically more advanced tech or the same amount of time to get used to it, then someone, somewhere, screwed up.

I remember using the twin analog scheme for the first time, it was confusing at first
anyway, RFOM had creative weapons ( I mean look at the dev) unlike Halo which was like a step back for its time ... ( No bots, couldn't duel- wield weapons, No secondary fire)
PD0 was out way before RFOM.aznfool07eactly...ugh ppl still don't know how they review games back then and now....alot of it is still comparing and back then PDO was a great game in comparison, but when rfom was released things like graw and all that was out making it a tougher to score higher.

sorry, but I went to currys digital not long ago, and saw the sony brevia 26", the nice one. And it was showing RFOM, and halo 3, and the difference was startling! resistance looked sooo good! It was amazing. I have got the game myself but I am now getting that tv next year. GOW's graphics were very overrated, I had both games, and resistance wins , no dout about it. But on gameplay both are about the same, the guns on resistance are better, but the story is not so good.
plus games are reviewed by comparing, a reason why many games did not get AAA. I bet that many games that got AA would have gotten AAA if they came out in the late summer holidays. but they had so much great competition. so they got average scores (7-8 ) compared to other games.
