Yes Perfect Dark Zero was trash in every respect, the graphics were sub-par, the weapons were lame and the campaign was stupid. The multiplayer is the only aspect of that game that was decent, it wasn't Halo 2 but it was really fun at the time. The game did not deserve a 9.0 the score should have been a 7.0-7.5.
Resistance on the other hand is a very competent FPS. The multiplayer is amazing, the weapons are very well realized and fun to use and the single player campaign is actually decent. Resistance isn't a slouch in the graphics department either, it's not the most beautiful game out there but it still looks pretty damn good.
People keep on saying that all Resistance does is borrow elemets from other FPS. I say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It's no Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 or Half Life 2 but it still gets a solid 8.5 in my book.
Uh-uh. I've got both, and Gears utterly flattens Resistance. There are maybe two levels, tops, where Resistance shows something resembling art direction - the underground bunkers (which have a great claustrophobic, submarine-like look) and the Chimeran structures underground. Gears is packed full of visual showcases - you'll often pick your way through a ruined building to come out into a courtyard full of detailed architecture, half-destroyed sculptures, etc..sorry, but I went to currys digital not long ago, and saw the sony brevia 26", the nice one. And it was showing RFOM, and halo 3, and the difference was startling! resistance looked sooo good! It was amazing. I have got the game myself but I am now getting that tv next year. GOW's graphics were very overrated, I had both games, and resistance wins , no dout about it. But on gameplay both are about the same, the guns on resistance are better, but the story is not so good.

Gears looks like a city collapsing into ruins; Resistance looks like a model of an English village cut out of cardboard.
And while the Bravias are nice LCDs, I don't think you can blame my TV - it's a Samsung 1080p DLP, with both systems hooked up via HDMI.
well back when I was hardcore MS, I still thought the game was awful. seriously, 5.0Even at launxh, people were complaining about PD0's score. Even some lemmings didn't think it deserved to be an AAA title.I havent't played either, so i can't tell you, but i think the time between the 2 games were released has something to do with it.

Gamerankings:
PDZ; 8.1
RFOM; 8.7
.6 difference. I don't see whats the big deal. Both games were mediocre imo.
From what I have heard and seen, RFOM is a very generic FPS that is just a bunch of borrowed elements put together.

From what you've heard?
I've played both games and Resistance indisputably deserved a 9--Espiecally by the standards of early gen. PD0 was a boring glitchy redundant piece.
Not that I'm going to change anyone's mind, but I just thought I'd throw my $.02 in....
Resistance: Fall of Man gets a bad wrap, and I feel sorry for the guys who made it. In fact, outside of GeOW I think it was the best FPS for it's time. GeOW was just too solid of a game and really took any hype away from Resistance.... I mean GeOW just blew away everything else graphically last year.
I think most of the people who bash Resistance haven't played it, because it's a very solid game. Good campaign, good weapons, good AI, quite a few breath taking fights. I haven't played either PD0 or Resistance online so I can't comment, but from a technical standpoint Resistance was a wonderful game.
I still don't own it because it's still $60 in the store, but it should make a great value priced game ($30-40) that I will definetely pick up when it hits that price point.
Well I'm pretty certain that there has been money paid to some of the top people on the biggest review sites to ensure the PS3 does not get a AAA exclusive. I mean look at the review of Drake's fortune here and some other sites, the reviewers had to come up with some pretty flimsy excuses not to give it AAA.teh_cellim so tired of hearing this excuse....would u mind pointing out how a score on a webstie would help the game sell alot more? :|
You need to use something other than just gamespot. When you look at a site that averages reviews (ie Metacritic) PDZ is an 81. Far from AAA. RFOM is an 86.
Gamespot does tend to favor some things more than others. Its not a bash cuz I think every site and reviewer has their own personal likes, dislikes and tolerances. Tolerances are uber critical: its what makes GS give a game like Mass Effect a below average grade for minor glitches that have zero effect on gameplay, while in the meantime they tend to give a shooter above average grades as long as the controls are decent and it has particle effects.. Thats why using sites that average scores from a wide range of critics will tend to paint a more universal picture. Its unlikely that EVERY reviewer will have the same viewpoint, bias, and tolerance leels for certain things.
In typical gamespot style, they messed everything up. The 360's launch titles were great *for a launch*. Most of the time you get one decent game from the console-maker and a bunch of last-gen ports. Launch is always the worst time to get a new console, for games at least. But the 360 was pretty good in that respect.
Call of Duty 2, PGR3 and Kameo were all really great, next-gen titles and were easily the best three games out of the launch. But the reviewers here gave them all lower-than-expected scores, which left a 360 launch hyped as one of the best ever with no AAA games, and gamespot was the only place where this was the case.
So, PDZ, the last game to be reviewed, got AAA to make up for this. Despite the fact it got A and AA everywhere else.
It's just like how WarioWare; an incredibly mediocre game, somehow managed AAA here because it came hot off the heals of the disastrous AA-review of Twilight Princess.
Resistance is a superb game. Multiplayer is great and the single player is great in terms of story and length (about 14 hours in length).
I don't know how PDZ got AAA to begin with but Resistance should definitely have been AAA. Great game and a top notch launch title. PDZ was pretty bad even for a launch title. I remember getting PDZ and thinking "Wow, this is what i was waiting for?". Being a huge PD fan on the N64 i was very dissapointed.
If this was the case, pity reviews.....Then wouldn't that just bring about the calls of bias for the PS3 because it hasn't received a pity AAA? There has to be more to the situation. In typical gamespot style, they messed everything up. The 360's launch titles were great *for a launch*. I have know Idea how that pile of crap PD0 got AAA
But RFOM got AA because its generic and boring.
Gh0st_Of_0nyx
Its hardly either. Its pretty thrilling and the weapons are awesome. Some battles are incredibly intense. Its open battles feel so hectic it really dissapointed me that Halo 3's open battlefields felt empty in comparison.
If you love classic scifi its got that great feel to it.
[QUOTE="krp008"]RFOM was almost a complete rip-off of Halo 1. Almost exactlybeast667did you even play resistence? cause its really not.
i beat it. The whole plot was almost exactly the same. I was surprised at how similar they both were. And Halo 1 was 4+ years older
[QUOTE="CPM_basic"]Don't bash PDZ because your an RFOM fanboy that had nothing better to play on ps3 for months on end. I'm not saying RFOM is bad but it's online wasn't as good as PDZ's.

WTH? What?
Look at my Gamerscore, son, I've been playing 360 longer and more than you (I currently have a Halo 360 and an ELITE, since I do LAN parties with buds all the time). I have 28,000 points vs. your measly 8000. I bought PD0 THE DAY IT CAME OUT.
I reserved it, and got it at 360's LAUNCH. I based my opinion's on it's the fact it's a very, very mediocre game. NOTHING I've heard changed my mind, I was the first on these boards denouncing it a day later.
Gimme a break. I am not a "RFOM fanboy, either" as I only merely like RFOM, I don't love it. Horrible job with your assumptions there.
Gears of War was my favorite game for Holiday 2006, not RFOM. YOu are WAY, WAY off base there, champ.
Im talking about the plot and how it pans out in the story, not the controller... Sony really wanted a Halo killer, so what did they do? Completely copy Halo, but call things different names and place you in a more gritty world
