Yet ODST, Reach get 9.0/9.5??? Thats nostaligia if i've ever seen it.

To me this makes so little sense, Not only does Crysis 2 have a better story than reach,it looks better, plays better and just has more going for it thanks to the suit abilities. From being able to grab/slide/kick and just completely get immersed in such detail crytek has managed to create for a console game.

I haven't felt this type of epic experience since MGS4, IMO

Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree. Definitely feels like Gamespot underrated it, especially given the inferior games which have received higher scores. It's a AAA game to me.

Well because Halo was in the name of course. Halo Wars being the exception. I haven't played crysis 2 so until then I'll see. But halo:ODST was clearly overrated here.

ODST was short, had recycled the MP and only added 1 new feature that was horribly underdeveloped, not to mention it cost 60 dollars as an expansion. Not sure how that turned out to be a 9.0 game.. but then again COD does the same thing and gets that..

Opinions. For every game that gets scored you will find people that think its either overrated, underrated, or just right.

Beyond that I cant think of a single place that reviews games that truly has any sort of consistency, or set standard.

I turned OSDT off after 10 minutes of playing it. :P The level design is appalling. I'm on the "Dead Man Walking" mission on Crysis 2, and it's been incredible so far. :) Definitely a 8.5 - 9 imo. It still lacks that epic feeling to the levels you had while playing Crysis 1 though. :(

I think the 8.5 is justified. The AI was bad and I found the story disappointing. Still an aewsome game though.

Thats fine, but explain an expansion like ODST that gets a 9? so magically the fact that it's 3 hrs long, recycled gameplay and is loaded with the same Halo 3 multi-player mode doesn't exist? ODST story is non existent for the fact that it's some marine walking around a dark alley looking for parts...but gets a 9? so hard to believe. and seems unfair.

well i would call you something pretty powerful that would get me suspended or banned then. a 3 hour campaign with repeating jazz music in the dark taking up about 1/3 of the total playtime and annoying red screens constantly because you aren't playing as a super soldier in a super soldier franchise? (even though he runs faser while carrying a turret and can flip warthogs with his hands) with the same MP maps as halo 3 (that a hardcore halo fan would have already bought) with no way to search for firefight matches? i wouldn't even give that game an 8. reach was epic and so was crysis 2. ODLC wash just an expansion for halo 3 that turned into a $60 package because MS wanted to milk halo fans and bungie accepted and agreed to the deal. only reason why anyone i know kept it over a month was to get into the reach beta.

better than any other console game besides maybe MGS4 (been awhile since i played it) this gen. they always hear you unless you have the right suit upgrade. the slightest noise (like bumping into a desk or uncloaking nearby) alerts them. then, they will do a search of the whole area and look for you. you can't get away with just killing one, because then they will know and maybe call for backup.

the aliens were a bit stupid, but not as braindead as the black ops AI. the only problem is that sometimes, they will glitch and start running into cover or a wall. as for the story, i found it to be pretty entertaining. and since i actually like the MP, i would rate it a 9. more deserving of a AAA then a few shooters this gen.

I played it on normal. There were times where the enemies just stood still and let me shoot them in the face, or I'd step around a corner and a guy would stare at me for three seconds before finally shooting me.

I didn't fancy the first crysis...too much pointless jungle and space to just show of the tech, and the story wasn't as interesting. I love the pacing with crysis 2...how the building come down and just the epic feel of invasion...that just wasn't there with the first 1.

Even though the gunplay was very fun, the AI bugs were ridiculous and the multiplayer offering is very underwhelming.

standards are different..it was a PC exclusive and simply because of the tech/graphics...it scored so well. At the time nothing came close to it. But since this is multiplat that standard changes...just unfairly sometimes.

Eh, comparatively speaking, it does seem like gamespot is cracking down on what they consider an AAA product, when you consider earlier ratings. But I do at least see why they gave it an 8.5 by their current standards, as there are some noteable flaws that bring it down.

Gamespot has gone through varying times of ratings. It is one of the saddest parts of this site. The reviews are ok but the consistency through the years has always been a problem here.

No its not something to base a score on, but the AI is a LARGE portion of a game (obviously). But if the enmies are acting that dumb 9running past you, failing to return fire when you engage them (visible of course) then I think its an issue. Clearly, you are shooting the enmy and if they just wander around and do nothing about you, then the clunky AI makesthe game turn into a calkwalk.

i feel like maybe i got the only copy of the game in existance where the AI doesn't do that. or i would if my friends' copies didn't also act perfectly fine. only time the AI was a problem was when it glitched (see earlier post on the subject)

I'm going to have to disagree. I saw tons of instances of bad AI in just one playthrough. Opponents and friendlies would do things like run in circles, ignore that you just killed their friend, get stuck on walls and cover, walk off cliffs, or just plain old stand there. The worst part is it happens almost every encounter. Halo certainly has occasional goofy AI but nothing ever as bad as in this game.

That isn't all that brought it down either. It's multiplayer is weak, the vehicles all handle like a unicycle, it ends on a mass effect ****cliffhanger, none of the characters are memorable, there are plenty of physics bugs, annoying issues with strength, like full energy drains when throwing a keyboard.

I liked the game a lot, maybe more than crysis 1 sometimes, but there are issues, and Kevin V. felt that those brought it to an 8.5.

yeah. honestly i read the reviews then played the game and even in the earliest levels i was like"WTF i thought they were supposed to be stupid!" the AI was actually able to know what i was doing and where all time if i wasn't always cloaked when within earshot. and they can see even in pitch black (certain part of the game) and kept sending reinforcements to flank me if i blew my cover. i can name many other impressive things about them, but i am lazy and am just gonna get off soon. nearly 4 am. need. sleep.

thats fine, but my point is...those issue you mentioned are ignored with some games and given high scores regardless. Overall Crysis 2 does what it does well..it's a complete package and in terms of graphical power (being the best for consoles) and the solid gameplay backed up with a great story...Crysis 2 should have been given a clean 9..because games before it do less and achieve it! so again..makes no sense. there should be STANDARDS for reviews. not just 8.5's and 9 to games that clearly don't deserve it.

Crysis 2 has it's fair share of bugs, but then again it achieves much more than the average linear shooter, so they should be expected. It's like GS completely overlooked that fact.

The AI ('least on pc) was always good and aggressive, only had a few bugs, nothing that really effected an outcome... not enough that I think it's worth a complaint.

Story's a bit weak, don't like that Alcatraz isn't va'd, the mute thing doesn't feel right when people keep asking you questions. The va in general isn't too amazing, the lip syncing is off, and there aren't any expressions, plenty of the story parts just feel forced. However, in SP it's one of the best shooters I've ever played..

Seems like there are a ton of haters on it's reviews, just giving it lower numbers 'cause it's not on a stupid boring island. And I found it to be much harder than the first game, which defiantly adds to the fun quite a bit. I think it's worth a 9.0, although like any shooter, bit on the short side, only took me a bit over 6 hours.

I don't think it's as awesome and original as Black Ops. That's why :)

Ya, the SP is pretty good so far. Between PC and 360 versions, the Ai seems better on PC. Graphics are definately better on PC, especially shadows.

I don't think it deserves a 9. Sure, I don't think Reach or ODST do either, but Crysis 2 had it's problems. Atrocious AI being the strongest one. Increasing the difficulty didn't help. The game was great, but I think it deserved an 8.

It's not quite a 9 since the AI can be incredibly stupid at times - Right at the start of Gate Keepers the soldiers were trying to throw grenades at me from halfway across the dock - inevitably they missed and blew up their own guys. In general the AI is good, but when it goes wrong...it really goes wrong.

You can fault it on graphics or entertainment, but faulty AI breaks the illusion the game is trying to create in the first place.

Irrespective, it's an excellent game.

Because it actually deserved its score. GS is one of the more critical/harsh reviewers and thats a good thing. Not every game needs 8 or more just because they don't want to seem to mean.

Oh, and Reach was no where close to a 9.5 game. Crysis 2 is better than many games that get higher scores. But people enjoy different things. Damn opinions gotta mean official now. You should be allowed to go back and change scores.

Because it doesn't have either "Halo", "CoD" or "Gears" in its name.

Thoughts?

Gamespot scores are based on hype, not on game quality

That is the reason a game like Fallout Vegas can possibly get a 7.5 and MGS4 or Unchated 2get 9+ or closer to perfect 10/10 when in fact are very linear short and boring games, some of the worst for me this generation

Juts play all the games Gamespot scores 7.5-9, those are the best games this generation by far, all 9+ are mediocre

Gamespot reviews are the most usufull too, when they scre something in 7.5-9 range, i know for fact that is one amazing game and buy it instantly, also i avoid or rent all games they score 9+, they are 100% accurate in that trend too
