How do PC gamers deal with hackers?

It's a known fact that there is a lot of cheating in many PC games but how do you deal with it? In GTA IV there is so much cheating that many people have stopped playing online. Cheating in GTA IV is so bad that basically every server has a cheater.They use god mode and spawn vehicles andin Battlefield they use unlimited strikes and drop unlimited vehicles. Crysis has a lot of cheating but hardly anyone play that online anymore.

One good thing about console games namely PS3 and 360 is that you can't hack and cheat. How do PC gamers deal with this?

i use steam and they have an anticheat (VAC secured) to scan your game registry for hacks and cheats. but there are ways around it i think.

Usually the servers deploy SDK's that look/deal with the cheaters.

If the game is old and not very popular, your probably screwed. If the game is more recent and popular, just change the server to one with some kind of anti cheat measures.

That said it has been years since I have seen some cheater or team killer or any other annoying type ruin a game completely.

Ok then, I'l anwser directly.

We dont deal with hackers, we barely ever see them, well those of us that have braincells.

I think in all my years of pc gaming I've seen a certified hacker only once, it's not nearly as big of a problem as some console fanboys make it. Personally I tend to stick to 1-5 good servers per game where unwanted people are efficiently kicked out, mostly those "unwanted" people are exploiters or teamkillers and can be found on consoles too. It's when you play on pirate servers or servers that have purposely no pb that you run into cheats.mr_mozilla

This. I would also like to add that most of these "cheaters" are only people that are very good in the game. When ass is kicked, and ownage served, anyone can cry foul play. Whining has always been popular on PC gaming. ;)

You certainly can't go into specifics on these boards but yes there are various hacks and pieces of equipment you can use to give you a significant illegal advanatge. blue_hazy_basic

Ban them, use VAC or punkbuster, etc. Console players exploit glitches as well, especially in the big name multiplayer games like Halo and Gears of War, ultimately making the game unbalanced and ruining it for a lot of people.

And GTAIV on PC is garbage. It's a poorly executed port and it's been known to have several issues.
