I don't have an xbox, but i'd hate to have my main menu cluttered with ads.

Does it bother you that microsoft doesn't care whether you are paying for xbox live or not to riddle your dashboard with ads?

Do you feel they care more about money rather than their costumers?

I just want to know if this is a true issue, or if its being blown out of proportion.

I feel like I should be able to play games online for alot less than $60 a year, especially with the ad on the corner of every page.. $20 a year seems much more reasonable IMO...

Nor I... I honestly couldn't tell you a single ad on XBL right now... I'm either on "spotlight", "friends" or "games", I enjoy the MS ads for games, because I like deals.

I hate them. Especially ones that are animated or make noise. But I solved that problem by never connecting my 360 to the internet. I have a gaming PC, phone, 3DS, Vita, WiiU, and PS3 for internet features.

I dont have gold or use my xbox much but the idea of paying for a service that has ads on it is a little off putting. The current crop arent too bad but if they get anymore then I will not be buying XBL Gold again.

It seems that only cows hate it. The only reason PS3 doesnt have them is because PSN isnt integrated into the XMB, but you can bet that it will be next gen, and there will be ads. All ads on the dashboard are either game related, or come with free stuff. The ads dont even play sound unless you highlight them. Its not a huge deal. Movie and game ads are extremely helpful in finding new additions that i dont know about, and the other ads come with free themes, games, prizes, etc. I dont see an issue with them. Its not like youtube where i have to watch unskippable ads before i can log on or access the store. In most cases, you can turn non-gaming related ads off and only see things related to Xbox Live. Like i said, the only ones that seem to have an issue with it are fanboys. PSN has ads on the whats new section, and on PSN, which arent a problem either.

It's yet another thing System Wars likes to blow out of proportion. There's about 10 panels on the home screen and of those only one small one in the bottom corner is an Ad. And it's almost always an ad for LoveFilm, Netflix or something else that you can use on the Xbox, it's not like they're advertising cereal or something. However it is still a bit of a joke to do it, especially for a paid service.

But there are no ads showing when i am skimming through the main menu on PS3. It looks like every time you go to a menu on LIVE there are a few ads. (Music related ads, movie related ads, ect...) As a paying costumer, that doesn't bother you?

The very first panel selected on the very first page is still the "play game" panel, so no one reallly has any reason to give a sh*t.

Even with multiple games, when you click the link, it shows you multiple titles. I wish PSN did that. I wish that when i booted up the PS3 i got content related ads instead of having to open a seperate app. Most of the time, when i go on PSN, i already know what im looking for, so i miss a lot of new content, and eventually find out about it on System Wars. Thats not good for the developer. These companies are businesses, and businesses need to make money. Ads are a great way to do it since these consoles are so much more than gaming machines. Why do you get ads when you pay for cable? Satellite radio? Its a service that is expensive to run. Sony loses millions running PSN. You dont think they wish they could put ads on the desktop? They already have the ticker that points you to the store or the whats new section.

Its incredible how much you defend this. Nonetheless, i agree with missing new content because of lack of ads. I hope if SONY starts displaying ads, they give them their space and not spread them around the whole main menu.

Wouldn't have happened across some games without them. I'm not sure why people get in a tizzy over advertisements... other than blatant, context-ruining product-placement. Microsoft is a business. Businesses exist to make money. Selling advertisement space is a very cheap way of making money. How can anyone who values the existence of business deride the use of advertisements? Are you jealous that MS is making money hand-over-foot by selling spaces on the dashboard, and you aren't? If you don't like it, you have two options: 1. Go to "settings" and set the 360 to boot directly to disc at startup. -or- 2. Go somewhere else. Preferably somewhere that prefers cheap-gamer loyalty over profits.

I agree that paying should mean ads disappear... especially if others in the industry are ad-less and free. That said, I think that ads are my most minor gripe in all of gaming next to disk swapping.

During my time as an owner, the ads themselves never bothered me. It's ridiculous to legitimately be bothered by such an insignificant thing. But, there is the overwhelming underlined principle behind xbl being that there is an entrance fee to begin with which can lead to the exaggerated (or not so exaggerated) complaints of an addition that is nearly absent on competitor products. Products, which are free.

I never stay on the dashboard for more than a few seconds. The ads don't bother me.

In the rare instance where I do spend some time looking on the dashboard, I have noticed most of the ads are gaming related, or something that is related to an app on the Xbox, like Netflix. I don't find that to be an issue.

They don't bother me, but the overall look of the dashboard sort of does. Of course I don't pay $60 for Live, and never plan on doing it (I only have Live right now because I had a bunch of trials that gave me like 75 days for free, and then I got in on the 2 months for $2 thing. Live is pretty much a giant scam, like paying for AOL or something.
